The focus of this study is how the concept of independent learning which is a policy in education in Indonesia is currently associated with Paulo Friere's critical education and its implementation in learning Islamic Religious Education. For Paulo Friere, independent learning is a teaching process that frees students from all kinds of colonialism, such as the banking system.  Freire's construction of education leads to education which will lead people out of the shackles of oppression. In line with that, the Merdeka Learning Program according to the Minister of Education and Culture will be the direction of future learning that focuses on improving the quality of human resources. Merdeka Learning is the beginning of the idea of ​​improving the monotonous national education system. Overall, the humanistic values ​​promoted by the Minister of Education and Culture's policies and the educational concepts offered by Friere are very relevant to be applied in education in Indonesia, especially Islamic Religious Education through the elements of educators, students and educational goals. Fokus kajian ini adalah bagaimana konsep merdeka belajar yang menjadi kebijakan pada pendidikan di Indonesia saat ini dikaitkan dengan pendidikan kritis Paulo Friere dan implementasinya dalam pembelajaran Pendidikan Agama Islam. Bagi Paulo Friere, merdeka belajar adalah proses pengajaran yang membebaskan peserta didik dari segala macam penjajahan, seperti banking system.  Konstruksi pendidikan Freire mengarah kepada pendidikan yang nantinya menghantar orang keluar dari belenggu penindasan. Selaras dengan itu, Program Merdeka Belajar menurut Mendikbud akan menjadi arah pembelajaran ke depan yang fokus pada meningkatkan kualitas sumber daya manusia, Merdeka Belajar merupakan permulaan dari gagasan untuk memperbaiki sistem pendidikan nasional yang terkesan monoton. Secara menyeluruh, nilai humanis yang diusung oleh kebijakan mendikbud dan konsep pendidikan yang ditawarkan Friere sangat relevan untuk diaplikasikan dalam pendidikan di Indonesia, khususnya Pendidikan Agama Islam melalui unsur pendidik, peserta didik dan tujuan pendidikan

The background of this issue, there are cases of violence mostly by educators is still emerged, must be a serious concern concern, which is shows the low understanding of educators about the concept of humanist education, as exemplified by KH Ahmad Dahlan, Ki Hajar Dewantara or Paulo Friere as a famous figure of educators. The research is aimed to understand the humanist educational thought of a religious patterned (KH Ahmad Dahlan), nationalist (Ki Hajar Dewantara) and socialistic (Paulo Friere) style of humanist education. The method used in this research is a library research with a qualitative approach, by doing descriptive analysis and interpreting the data obtained. The results of this research shows that KH Ahmad Dahlan, Ki Hajar Dewantara and Paulo Freire have similarities in viewing humanist education, although they have a slightly differences in the use of terms and methods of field practical application.

Salah satu pertanyaan mendasar yang selalu dimajukan terhadap pendidikan  adalah “mengapa sekolah/universitas/ institut atau lembaga persekolahan berlabel Islam cenderung lambat untuk menjadi agent of reform and reconstruction? Ada penilaian bahwa justru lembaga pendidikan formal itulah yang paling koservatif dalam pengertian menjadi pemelihara pandangan lama dan paling lambat menyesuaikan diri dengan perubahan budaya masyarakat. Untuk itu, Ivan Illich, Paulo Friere, dan para pemikir pendidikan lain di Indonesia juga banyak menggugat keberadaan dan mutu pendidikan. Padahal suatu keniscayaan bahwa semangat Islam itu, adalah pembaruan, modernisasi dan aktualisasi ajaran Islam dalam membangun budaya dan peradaban kehidupan manusia yang pernah mencapai puncak kemajuan dan keemasan pada waktu itu. Tulisan ini mencoba menyorot keberadaan Islam dan korelasinya pemikiran umat saat ini. Kata kunci: Tantangan Pendidikan, dan  Aktualisasi Pendidikan Islam

This article explores how and why child care theory and practice has been separated from the idea and concept of love since Dr John Bowlby used the word in his book, Child Care and the Growth of Love (1953). The author attempted to reconnect child care theory and love in his book, The Growth of Love (2008) the title of which was deliberately chosen to reflect the debt owed to John Bowlby, and his son, Sir Richard Bowlby contributed the Foreword. Some of the challenges and implications of this approach are described, before reference to the writings and work of others that he discovered in the process. Three mentioned are Janusz Korczak, Paulo Friere and Friedrich Froebel. Recent research on cognitive development creates space for thinking about love, for example Sue Gerhardt, Why Love Matters (2004). The article concludes with reference to children in hospital and love in religious traditions, with a final mention of how Johannes Brahms saw love as the key to all of his music.

The asphyxiation of subaltern voices and the disregard of Arab and Muslimwomen’s subjectivities in the cultural sphere of the post-9/11 era is the mainproblematic addressed by this collection. With the editorship of Lisa K. Taylorand Jasmin Zine, and based on the legacy of post-colonial writers like GayatriSpivak and Paulo Friere, this collection foregrounds how Orientalism operateson the ground and discusses how we can come up with new discursive toolsand spaces for articulations of difference and diversity and for “reading back” to resist the Empire. Critical public pedagogy is both the main objective and themain analytical tool in unmaking the epistemic frameworks of western imperialism,Orientalism, and patriarchy. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengungkapkan persepsi tentang pelaksanaan program pendidikan alternatif melalui pembelajaran di Komunitas Belajar Qaryah Thayyibah (KBQT) berkaitan dengan: (1) Filsafat pendidikan, (2) Pengelolaan pembelajaran, (3) Hasil pembelajaran, (4). Faktor pendukung dan penghambat.Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif fenomenologi interpretitif. Subyek penelitian adalah pendiri, pendamping dan warga belajar. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan: (1) riset kepustakaan, (2) teknik dokumentasi, (3) riset lapangan. Metode analisis data dilakukan dengan cara: (a) reduksi data, (b) penyajian data, (c) penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa: (1) Filosofi pendidikan menggunakan konsep Paulo Friere dengan pembelajaran kontruktivisme maupum rekontruktivisme, (2) Pengelolaan program pembelajaran berkaitan: (a) perencanaan yang dilakukan oleh, untuk dan bagi komunitas; (b) pelaksanaan pembelajaran dilakukan secara fleksibel; (c) evaluasi dilakukan dengan melaporkan catatan kegiatan belajar, (3) Hasil pembelajaran diwujudkan dalam bentuk karya, (4) Faktor pendukungnya adalah teman komunitas, dan faktor penghambatnya adalah kurang memahami konsep pembelajaran serta kurangnya pendampingan yang efektif.Kata Kunci: pendidikan alternatif, komunitas belajar MANAGEMENT LEARNING PROGRAM ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION COMMUNITY LEARNING QARYAH THAYYIBAH IN SALATIGA CENTRAL JAVAAbstractThis study aims to reveal the perception of an alternative education program through the implementation of learning in Community Learning Qaryah Thayyibah (QTLC) relating to: (1) Philosophy of education, (2) learning management, (3) learning outcome, (4). Enabling and inhibiting factors .This study used a qualitative approach interpretitif phenomenology. Subjects were founders, mentors and learners. Data collected by: (1) the research literature, (2) technical documentation, (3) research field. Methods of data analysis done by: (a) data reduction, (b) the presentation of the data, (c) drawing conclusions. The research results revealed that: (1) educational philosophy using the concept of Paulo Friere with constructivism learning, (2) Management related learning program: (a) planning done by, to and for the community, (b) the implementation of flexible learning is done; (c) evaluation is done by reporting record learning activities, (3) learning outcomes manifested in the form of work, (4) is a factor supporting community friends, and inhibiting factor is the lack of understanding of the concept of learning as well as the lack of effective mentoringKeywords: alternative education, community learning

‭Duda Penteado’s Beauty for Ashes Project addresses the dilemma of contemporary artists finding their own voice after the art movements of the twentieth century. His background as a Brazilian and a believing Christian gives him a unique response. He appropriates and transforms the work of great modern artists without a need for elaborate theoretical justification. Much influenced by Paulo Friere and his belief in the significance of art for social change, Duda is involved in art projects with students and the public around the world. In these projects, ideas are developed, and creative art installations are built that he hopes will inspire people to search deeper for meaning in life. He believes that faith is not a process of convincing but an encounter. Curiosity must be sparked to begin the process for each individual to make the journey. Duda is convinced that art holds a significant role in society and that the artistic image expresses the essence of society. His work represents a genre of artwork derived from ethnic tradition and religious experience. Duda believes that great art comes from within and is the true language of the soul. To create art is an act of faith in itself.‬
