The purpose of this study was to assist the faculty of the Institute of Information and Computer Studies in securing their records and personal devices that were left at the office. This study made use of developmental-descriptive research. In software development, the Rapid Application Development (RAD) model was used. The system was developed using the n-tier architectural design. Because the developed system will be deployed in the IICS Building, the concerned faculty can be added as secondary users of the system so that they, along with the guard-on-duty, receive notification whenever there is motion detected during the night. A short message service (SMS) support is essential as a communication tool in notifying the room custodian and security guard-on-duty.

This research was developed and evaluated an instructional LiveBinders for learning selected computer Studies concepts in Ilorin Metropolis, Nigeria. In this research, the design and development model was used. The participants in the study were five computer studies teachers, five computer science experts, and five educational technology experts were chosen at random. The following research instruments were used in this study: a developed computer storage device for computer studies, an expert rating guide of educational technology, and a subject content validation questionnaire. Research questions were answered using percentages and mean. The study concluded that if LiveBinders are properly integrated into learning, computer studies learning can be improved. As a result, it was suggested that students be encouraged to use LiveBinders for learning regardless of a subject area.

This research aims to investigate the rhetorical structures of the introduction sections of Pakistani research theses at postgraduate level. The corpus of study contains 32 “Introduction” sections of Pakistani research theses from two faculties: Humanities and Sciences. The faculty of Sciences include theses from disciplines of Zoology, Chemistry, Botany and Biochemistry, whereas the faculty of Humanities include theses of Mass Communication, English, Gender Studies and Computer Studies. Both qualitative and quantitative methods including textual analysis and frequency percentages have been used for data analysis. The online software Compleat Lexical Tutor(Cobb.2015) was employed to extract the sentence units of the data. A hand tagged move analysis was conducted by following Swales’ Model (2004) as a reference framework. All the instances of moves and steps were calculated to explore the rhetorical variation across two faculties. Findings of the study disclosed that Pakistani authors follow their own pattern of Move 1 (Establishing the research territory) along with the variation in frequency of its constituent steps across two faculties. The demarcation between two faculties has revealed that, in the field of sciences, there is a stronger use of topic generalization than in humanities. Moreover, the inter-textual links to prior research in the field of sciences are provided more frequently than in the field of humanities. However, scholars from the faculty of Humanities represent their stance by claiming relevance of the field.

Simulation and computer studies of the structural and physical properties of hydroxyapatite (HAP) with different defects are presented in this review. HAP is a well-known material that is actively used in various fields of medicine, nanotechnology, and photocatalytic processes. However, all HAP samples have various defects and are still insufficiently studied. First of all, oxygen and OH group vacancies are important defects in HAP, which significantly affect its properties. The properties of HAP are also influenced by various substitutions of atoms in the HAP crystal lattice. The results of calculations by modern density functional theory methods of HAP structures with these different defects, primarily with oxygen and hydroxyl vacancies are analyzed in this review. The results obtained show that during the structural optimization of HAP with various defects, both the parameters of the crystallographic cells of the HAP change and the entire band structure of the HAP changes (changes in the band gap). This affects the electronic, optical, and elastic properties of HAP. The review considers the results of modeling and calculation of HAP containing various defects, the applied calculation methods, and the features of the effect of these defects on the properties of HAP, which is important for many practical applications.

The study examines the effect of visual literacy on the academic achievement of students in Computer studies in selected secondary schools in Enugu State. A quasi-experimental design was used for the study and the sample consisted of one hundred (100) Senior Secondary School Two (SS2) students selected from both public and private secondary schools in Enugu State through stratified random sampling technique. The sample was divided into two major groups: experimental (n-50) and control group (n-50). The Experimental Group (EG) was taught using visual literacy materials, while the Control Group (CG) was taught without visual literacy. A pre-test and post-test of Computer Achievement Test (CAT) was administered to both groups before and after the treatment respectively. Data were later analyzed using frequencies, percentages, mean and standard deviation. While the hypotheses were tested using T-Test. The results showed that there was statistically significance difference between the academic achievements of students taught using visual literacy and those taught without visual literacy. The mean score (55.1400) of the EG was higher than that of the CG (49.3600), showing that students in the EG outperformed those in the CG after the treatment. The findings further showed that there was a statistically significance difference between the academic achievements of male and female students who received the same visual literacy treatment. The mean score (56.0400) of female students in the EG was higher than that of their male counterparts (53.8800), showing that the female students performed better than the males. A statistically significant difference was also found in the mean scores of students from public and private schools who received the same visual literacy treatment. The students from the private school performed better than those from the public school. We conclude that visuals if properly integrated into the teaching and learning process could be a catalyst to stimulate students’ critical thinking, comprehension and interpretation of concepts in Computer science. Keywords: Visual literacy, Animation, Multimedia, Academic Achievement, Computer studies, Secondary school

This study is focused on college students’ computer appreciation skills acquired for economic empowerment. The study employed survey research design and was guided by three research questions. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 272 students drawn from three secondary schools out of the seven schools that offer computer studies. Computer Appreciation Skills Acquisition Questionnaire (CASAQ) was instrument used for data collection made up of 29 items with a reliability coefficient of .94, .83 and .96 obtained using Cronbach Alpha reliability test.  Results showed that college students are moderately skilled in data processing, spreadsheet and database skill acquisition required for economic empowerment. It was recommended among others that more time be allocated in the timetable of Computer Studies/ICT subject to enable students have enough time for drills and practice that will guarantee quality skills training.   Received: 18 December 2020 / Accepted: 19 March 2021 / Published: 10 May 2021

The optimization of permeable thermoelement for thermoelectric air conditioner unit based is presented. In the thermoelectric air conditioner unit the air flow is cooled due to a combined action of thermoelectric effects and the Joule-Thomson effect. Methods for calculation of temperature distribution, determination of power conversion energy characteristics and thermoelement design in maximum COP mode are discussed. Results of computer studies for the case of thermoelement legs based on Bi2Te3 material have shown the possibility of COP increase by a factor of 1.6-1.7 as compared to conventional thermoelectric systems.

The article describes the methodology of physical and mathematical modeling of the mechanism for ejection of chips of a disk chipper. This technique allows you to calculate and optimize the design and technological parameters of the chip ejection mechanism. To accomplish this task, the flow of chip elements was divided into separate spherical elements, and the working surfaces of the chip ejection mechanism are represented by a set of fragments of planes conjugated to each other. When creating a mathematical model for calculating and optimizing the design and technological parameters of the chip ejection mechanism, the following indicators of the efficiency of the chip ejection mechanism were analyzed: the rate of chip ejection at the exit of the chipping line, the probability of chip ejection from the first revolution of the chipping disk, the mechanical power consumed for the ejection of chips after the stage of crushing the cut residues knives. The mathematical model is implemented in a computer program in the Object Pascal language in the Delphi 7 development environment. The program allows carrying out computer experiments to analyze the movement in the casing and chipping of chips obtained from felling residues and to study the effect of the design and technological parameters of the ejection mechanism on the efficiency of the disk chipper. The computer studies carried out made it possible to determine the best numerical ranges of the chipping disk rotation frequency and the number of blades located on the chipping disk. The likelihood of chip entrainment at the first revolution of the chipping disk and the power consumption for the ejection of chips from the disk chipper were also determined.
