Abstract Background Individuals with Williams syndrome (WS) have an elevated risk for anxiety disorders throughout the life span, making it a research priority to identify the individual factors associated with anxiety. Most of the existing literature is based on questionnaire data and suggests that impaired executive functions (EF) increase the risk for anxiety in WS. The aim of this study was to use direct measures by trained clinicians to investigate the effects of general intelligence, inhibition, sustained attention, and working memory on anxiety in WS, to further elucidate potential underlying mechanisms. Method Twenty-four individuals with WS participated in the study (mean age: 29 years, range: 9–53 years), together with at least one of their parents. The MINI international neuropsychiatric interview for DSM-5 was completed to establish clinical diagnosis of anxiety, and the Clinical Global Impression Scale – Severity was used for an expert rating of symptom severity. Intellectual abilities were measured using the Wechsler scales, and attention and inhibition using the Conner’s Continuous Performance Test. In addition, a parent-report questionnaire measuring EF, learning and memory was collected. Results In contrast to the apriori hypothesis, there was no significant association between anxiety and core elements of EF such as working memory, sustained attention, and inhibition (i.e. the process of restraining one’s impulses or behaviour). Using ordinal logistic regression analyses, we showed that decreasing intelligence quotient (IQ) and age are associated with elevated anxiety. We confirmed these results in between-groups analyses (anxiety disorder vs no current anxiety disorder), and low IQ was associated with higher risk of having an anxiety diagnosis. In addition, Bayesian statistics gave substantial evidence for no significant association between anxiety and inhibition. Conclusion By using direct measures of psychological pathology and functioning, the current results provide a deeper characterisation of the WS phenotype and provide novel insights into the potential mechanisms underpinning anxiety.

Background and Purpose: Mechanical thrombectomy is an established procedure for treatment of acute ischemic stroke. Mechanical thrombectomy success is commonly assessed by the Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction (TICI) score, assigned by visual inspection of X-ray digital subtraction angiography data. However, expert-based TICI scoring is highly observer-dependent. This represents a major obstacle for mechanical thrombectomy outcome comparison in, for instance, multicentric clinical studies. Focusing on occlusions of the M1 segment of the middle cerebral artery, the present study aimed to develop a deep learning (DL) solution to automated and, therefore, objective TICI scoring, to evaluate the agreement of DL- and expert-based scoring, and to compare corresponding numbers to published scoring variability of clinical experts. Methods: The study comprises 2 independent datasets. For DL system training and initial evaluation, an in-house dataset of 491 digital subtraction angiography series and modified TICI scores of 236 patients with M1 occlusions was collected. To test the model generalization capability, an independent external dataset with 95 digital subtraction angiography series was analyzed. Characteristics of the DL system were modeling TICI scoring as ordinal regression, explicit consideration of the temporal image information, integration of physiological knowledge, and modeling of inherent TICI scoring uncertainties. Results: For the in-house dataset, the DL system yields Cohen’s kappa, overall accuracy, and specific agreement values of 0.61, 71%, and 63% to 84%, respectively, compared with the gold standard: the expert rating. Values slightly drop to 0.52/64%/43% to 87% when the model is, without changes, applied to the external dataset. After model updating, they increase to 0.65/74%/60% to 90%. Literature Cohen’s kappa values for expert-based TICI scoring agreement are in the order of 0.6. Conclusions: The agreement of DL- and expert-based modified TICI scores in the range of published interobserver variability of clinical experts highlights the potential of the proposed DL solution to automated TICI scoring.

Agency and communion are the two fundamental content dimensions in psychology. The two dimensions figure prominently in many psychological realms (personality, social, self, motivational, cross-cultural, etc.). In contemporary research, however, personality is most commonly measured within the Big Five framework. We developed novel agency and communion scales based on the items from the most popular nonpropriety measure of the Big Five—the Big Five Inventory. We compared four alternative scale-construction methods: expert rating, target scale, ant colony, and brute force. Across three samples ( Ntotal = 942), all methods yielded reliable and valid agency and communion scales. Our research provides two main contributions. For psychometric theory, it extends knowledge on the four scale-construction methods and their relative convergence. For psychometric practice, it enables researchers to examine agency and communion hypotheses with extant Big Five Inventory data sets, including those collected in their own labs as well as openly accessible, large-scale data sets.

AbstractGiven the differences between young dancers’ and adult dancers’ use of imagery, a valid and reliable questionnaire specific to young dancers was necessary. The current study is the first phase of a multi-phase study in the development of the Dance Imagery Questionnaire for Children (DIQ-C). Specifically, the purpose of this study was to establish content validity of the DIQ-C. This was achieved through the following three stages: (1) definition, item, and scale development, (2) assessment of item clarity and appropriateness via cognitive interviews, and (3) assessment of item-content relevance via an expert rating panel. Guided by previous qualitative research with young dancers, 46 items representing seven subscales (i.e., imagery types) were developed. The initial item pool was then implemented during cognitive interviews with 16 dancers (15 females; Mage=10.63, SD=1.82), which led to the removal of 13 items and the modification of 21 items. Consequently, the revised 33-item pool was then administered to an expert panel of four imagery researchers and four dance instructors to measure item-content relevance. This resulted in the removal of eight items, the revision of four items, and the merging of two subscales. Overall, the current study provides content validity evidence for a 25-item pool (representing five subscales) to be used in further development of the DIQ-C (i.e., identifying and establishing factor structure).

The methodology for determining the procedure for environmental protection on the basis of a matrix representation of the conditions of the problem and the application of mathematical methods of information processing is substantiated. An algorithm is proposed for establishing the procedure for environmental protection during the closure of coal mines with limited funding. When mines are closed, environmental legislation provides for the implementation of a number of important technical measures ensuring the preservation of the environment in the zone of influence of the enterprise. A method is proposed that is based on determining the degree of risk of each environmental hazard factor, which allows one to “rank” environmental measures according to their “rank”. The main aspects of the negative environmental impact of densely populated mining regions are identified. The degree of environmental risk, from the point of view of using it to establish the frequency of environmental protection measures, is a criterial factor, determined on the basis of collegial decision-making by all interested participants in the process. The numerical characteristics that form the basis for decision making are determined. To assess the degree of environmental risk, the data of expert assessments are presented in the form of a matrix, which allows us to formalize the decision-making process on the frequency of environmental protection measures. In the process of forming a matrix of expert rating estimates, all indicators that determine the degree of environmental risk are taken into account. Moreover, among the indicators there are those that have a physical nature and are measured by physical quantities, and those that have a logical essence and are characterized as “yes” or “no”

The article considers the problems of taxation regulation of federal state-funded institutions belonging to the penal system that make it impossible to implement a number of fiscal advantages by the institutions of the penal system, and in some cases, the failure to fulfill tax obligations. Based on the analysis of tax law and budget legislation as well, litigation practice, expert rating, information letters of the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation and the Federal Tax Service, conflicting stances on the implementation of a number of statutory tax provisions regulating the procedure of tax obligation fulfillment by state-funded institutions the Penal Service towards federal taxes and taxation updates caused by a wide range of legal disputes are highlighted. The features of taxation of medical correctional institutions of the penal system are considered. Attention is drawn to the difficulties that arise when federal state-funded institutions of the penal system perform the functions of a tax agent for income tax. It is concluded that the implementation of the taxation regulation of the institutions of the penal system requires taking into account the specific features of their legal nature as the subjects of both tax law and budget legislation that implies the need to ensure consistent legal regulation of the performance of tax obligation by these subjects through the harmonization of tax and budget legislation. It is concluded that it is necessary to improve the legal norms governing the taxation of institutions included in the structure of the penal system in view of the type of correctional institution as the current taxation regulation of these institutions many questions and challenges both in the realization of their rights and in the fulfillment of tax obligations. «Transparency» of the legal status of the institutions of the penal system will increase the effectiveness of the mission implementation of the institutions and bodies of the penal system.
