Leadership development (LD) has been shown to deliver significant value in both professional and academic settings. However, scholars of leadership communication and LD have argued for a need to recognize LD as a highly social, co-creative, and communicative process in which followership and larger organizational and social contexts play a significant role. Recent research has also argued for self-directed and experiential learning approaches to promote learning mindsets and psychological resources for long-term growth. The present study addresses these challenges by developing a holistic theoretical model and an applied design for LD comprised of evidence-based communication interventions that address intrapersonal, interpersonal, and strategic communication contexts in order to promote both authentic leadership and transformational leadership capacities. The model employs human-centered design methods to complement established experiential learning models and facilitate co-creative engagement with situated organizational challenges.

Abstract The relevance of the work is due to the constantly growing requirements for the ride comfort of automobiles. The purpose of the study is a rational choice and combination of principles for constructing an algorithm for controlling an electric machine, replacing a hydraulic damper in the design of a vehicle’s suspension system. The study of the behavior of suspension, depending on the applied control algorithms, was carried out by the method of mathematical modeling. In this work, the control of the suspension of one wheel was considered. The angular and longitudinal oscillations of the body were not the subject of this study. In this regard, the applied design scheme is two-mass. The positive and negative aspects of various principles for calculating the target force generated by an electric machine are considered, and an algorithm for calculating the magnetic flux and armature current of an electric machine necessary for the implementation of the target force under various conditions is developed. It is shown that the calculation of the target force should be based on a combination of several principles, since this allows significant expanding of the suspension operating conditions range.

Based on the results of the analysis of the design solutions of launching and receiver stations of pipeline inspection gauges (pig launchers-receivers) used in process diagnostics and maintenance of main pipelines in Russia and abroad, a number of applied design issues was established. This, in turn, led to the relevance of the issue of optimizing the design of pig launchers and receivers, including the unification of parts used in their manufacture, thereby increasing the share of factory-made products. Decisions were made that provided a comprehensive approach to the issue of improving the operational reliability of this type of equipment - a new design of pig launchers and receivers was developed, which allows to reduce production metal consumption and labor intensity, reduce operating costs, increase constructability and reliability. As part of the solution of this issue, computational and theoretical studies using the SIMULIA Abacus software package were carried out. The reliability of the optimized design is confirmed by the results of durability tests of the pig launcher and receiver prototype with the nominal diameter of the working chamber of DN 1000. A dimension range of advanced designs of pig launchers and receivers with nominal working chamber diameters of DN 150-1200 for use in main oil and petroleum product pipelines was developed.

This study examines learning outcomes by applying design thinking to logic and writing in the area of education, educational philosophy and in history classes. It also provides basic data on whether to expand the application to other classes. The results of the study are as follows: First, in creative thinking competency, the average score of the students was higher than before in all divergent thinking abilities, adventure and curiosity, intellectual inquiry, but not for original flexibility. The difference between the means was statistically significant (p < .05). Second, in emotional intelligence improvement, the average was higher than before in all forms of emotion recognition and expression, empathy, thinking promotion, and emotion utilization. Only with emotional regulation did the average score not increase. The difference between the means was statistically significant (p < .05). Third, design thinking was effective in five categories of learning outcomes. From this study, we found that using design thinking is meaningful in improving the ability of students to solve problems related to creative thinking and emotional intelligence.

Background: The activity-based costing system allows organizations to estimate the exact cost of their services based on the consumed resources, which in turn translates into increased efficiency of healthcare organizations. Objectives: The current study aimed to estimate the cost of ultrasound and CT scan services using the activity-based costing (ABC) method. Methods: Following a descriptive-applied design, the total cost of the most commonly used ultrasound and CT scan services in Imam Khomeini Hospital of Ahvaz was calculated using the ABC method. Data were collected using special forms and a list of services’ costs. To estimate the costs for different hospital sectors, first, the principles of determining cost proportion per service were set, and then using the direct cost approach, costs were estimated. Results: The highest and lowest differences from government-approved medical tariffs were related to the facial (523,000 Rials) and lung (133,000 Rials) CT scans, respectively. Also, except for abdominal and pelvic CT scans, the estimated cost of services was higher than the tariffs. The highest and lowest share of costs were related to the depreciation of capital equipment (1,174,490,000 Rials) and energy consumed by activity centers (952,000 Rials), respectively. Conclusions: For most of the investigated services, the total cost was significantly higher than the approved tariffs. To make medical tariffs more realistic and to continuously improve the provision of healthcare services, it is necessary to use costing techniques like ABC.

AbstractDeveloping appropriate assistive technology to be manufactured and maintained within the local context of a low-resource setting requires alternative design principles and designerly ways to those used when designing in, or for, more resourced regions of the world. This case study offers an empirical account of the design of SafariSeat, an all-terrain wheelchair which has been designed, tested, manufactured and turned into a sustainable enterprise in East Africa. The wheelchair was developed with intentions to reduce inequality and help alleviate poverty in low-resource communities by improving users' health, wellbeing and participation in society, whilst creating and facilitating local jobs to support communities. Having developed SafariSeat with a human-centred design approach, a local mindset, and prioritisation of usability and affordability, this case study is used to reflect on the applied design principles, practices and processes whilst providing contextual insights for other designers seeking to work in a similar way. The study discusses challenges encountered whilst designing in a low-resource setting, and highlights how local collaboration and partnerships can help lead to the creation of a more sustainable solution.

In this paper, exploratory and innovative research is done on the implementation technique of artistic color virtual reality for similarity image recovery. Based on similarity images, a nonlocal natural image before the regular term is proposed to deal with the single-image blind deblurring problem. This paper designs a new artistic color virtual reality realization technology based on similarity image restoration, which exploits the low-rank property between nonlocal similarity blocks in images and combines a strong convex term to enhance the convexity of the artistic color virtual reality model. We analyze virtual reality interaction design from the perspective of art color design, sort out the concept and content of design, analyze the elements, design principles, and evaluation criteria included in virtual reality interaction art color design, and explore the conceptual principles of virtual reality interaction art color design. A full understanding of the characteristics of the medium of the virtual reality interaction can help us to better use this medium as a tool to create works that aim to bring higher quality and experiential feeling with a perceptual communication method that is closer to natural interaction. Combining the power of technology, artistic colourful thinking, and a design approach paves the way forward. The study shows that virtual reality technology can effectively improve the status quo and promote the cultivation of professional practice ability in art color design, which is conducive to the cultivation of applied design talents.

The standing posture is one of the most important factors in the maturation of the neuromotor system, and it is an evolutionary necessity that phylogenetically makes possible the differentiation of functions between the upper and lower limbs, influencing a greater development of the latter; with a fundamental change in the shape of the foot: it increases the importance of the tarsus and metatarsus and reduces the work of the fingers, which facilitates the movement, transfer and independence of the individual in their activities of daily life. The design and production of the prototype of the device, the judgment of the experts, as well as the results of the physiotherapeutic evaluation before and after the standing program, are the threads that are woven in this research proposal. This study seeks to propose a prototype of a standing frame for pediatric patients with spina bifida. The design of a device for standing is proposed based on the individual characteristics of the users, which was evaluated by experts to later perform a case study on a standing program with this type of device in pediatric patients with spine bifida. The designed prototype seems to offer adequate conditions for maintaining standing and on some musculoskeletal conditions of the patient studied. The study concludes that assisted standing should be promoted through inexpensive, functional and continuous monitoring devices. A user-applied design is proposed and not a generic device model.

In dwelling, humans will always adapt to all changes that occur to stay alive and exist. With the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been many changes, one of which is in the way we work. Responding from WFH (Work From Home) to the COVID-19 Pandemic and Future Work Trends (remote working) which cause various problems (anxiety, loss of restroom, etc.) and the need to work, there is a need for projects that can accommodate Work Near Home, Relaxation, Social Interaction, and Connection to Nature. The Project consists of two programs, namely active and passive leisure programs, and co-working. The project also responds primarily to the millennial generation and Gen Z workers. Where it is hoped that these two programs can maintain a work-life balance and balance between the realm, natural, and digital world. For the applied design concept, the project has a cluster typology. Each cluster consists of several masses, varied programs, and each space becomes its mass. The Biophilic concept is also applied to design. The first aspect is Visual & Non-visual Connection to Nature, by presenting vegetation elements around the site and around the mass of the building, which aims to create a new work experience and relaxation. The second aspect is Biomorphic Form & Pattern, where the patterns formed are representations of living things. The building masses is inspired by the leaves of the lotus plant which influence the shape, size, and placement of the masses. The water element is added to create a floating impression like a lotus. So that with the creation of this project, it can fulfill dwelling in work and relaxation.
