A March 2021 survey is used to consider three hypotheses relating to working adults. Hypothesis 1 is that teleworking perceptions of leaders and employees are related in terms of promoting increased trust and improved performance. Hypothesis 2 is that a structured plan with associated resources to sustain long-term telework situations will be positively associated with program effectiveness. Hypothesis 3 is that a structured plan with associated resources to sustain long-term telework situations will be positively associated with improved performance. Presidents/CEOs (67%), upper managers (80%), and mid-level managers (75%) believe there is daily telework accountability, but the level of belief is different for those who are subordinate to them. Just 55% and 29% of supervisors and employees, respectively, share that belief. These differing viewpoints can make it difficult to manage the kind of work environment and work relationship issues that are crucial in addressing a pandemic or other crisis. In the search for shared understanding, one path to success is rules-based trust.

In this study, teachers' perceptions of leaders' inclusive leadership skills were examined to improve their work performance. This study employed a survey research design of a quantitative approach. A sample of 389 teachers of public universities of Sindh, Pakistan, was drawn through a stratified random sampling technique. This study revealed that the heads could play a fundamental role in teachers' job performance by facilitating need-based intervention based on teachers' capacities and innovative attitudes. However, the study findings suggest a shift in the university's organizational structure by listening openly and being accessible, available in diverse situations. Further, the null hypothesis was accepted that both genders have the same opinions about the level of inclusive leadership qualities and viewed that heads' Inclusive leadership (IL) style can enhance proactive behavior of faculty members. Researchers found the theoretical and practical implications for future studies.

The Scope and Content of the Sri Lankan Constitution: Perspectives of Opinion Leaders comprises a summary of findings that assesses the knowledge, attitudes and perceptions of leaders from the four main ethnic communities (Sinhala, Tamil, Up Country Tamil and Muslim) across the island. These leaders included religious leaders, government officials, office holders of community-based organizations, teachers and school principals. The assessment adapted and applied International IDEA’s constitutional performance assessment methodology to collect these leaders’ perceptions on the constitutional text and realities on current constitution, the Presidency, human rights and the nature of political and economic order.

In times of crisis because of the COVID-19 outbreak, leadership matters more than ever. Previous research focuses on leaders as charismatic and identity entrepreneurs. Little is known about the effect of the we-referencing language of political speeches (type of narrative) and the context (stability or crisis) of their communication on identity leadership dimensions. This paper reports a 2x2 design that addresses this theoretical lacunae. Factorial multivariate analysis of variance (Two-Way ANOVA) found significant interactions between narrative type and context on leaders’ identity entrepreneurship, charisma, perceived trust and collective helplessness. Hierarchical multiple regression identified predictors of charismatic leadership in context of stability and crisis with the narrative type consistently predicting perceptions of charisma. Significant indirect effects of identity entrepreneurship on charismatic leadership were found via narrative type, collective helplessness and perceived trust. The contextualisation of identity leadership processes and the importance of type of communicated narratives on perceptions and evaluations of leaders especially in times of crisis are discussed.

We draw on interviews with 22 religious leaders to develop a model that highlights how these individuals confront organizational change. Our model provides insight into the perceptions of leaders who are negotiating change in an unusual and turbulent organizational context. It also expands knowledge of how change is confronted in situations where organizational decline is exacerbated by widespread shifts within the larger institutional environment. We find religious leaders are attuned to the pressures facing their organizations and that in general, they embrace change. Leaders highlighted the need to encourage change not only in others, but also described a need for personal change; according to our interviewees, bringing about such transformation requires an ability to frame contextual demands for change in constructive ways, adapt and respond to the forces pressing on religious life, and balance tradition with innovation.

Work-from-home and remote work arrangements are increasingly common. As a result, much business communication is taking place via computer-mediated means. In two experiments, the effect of emojis in business email is explored: their effect on perceptions of the leader who sends the email, perceptions of the email itself, and the email within the communication context. Study 1 found that emails with emojis led to positive perceptions of a leader’s likability and effectiveness, but only on the part of male recipients; female recipients rated a leader using emojis as less effective, with no difference in likability. In study 2, females perceived emails with emojis as more positive but also less appropriate for the workplace, although those who worked in informal workplaces showed a less pronounced effect of appropriateness. It is clear that leaders should consider both the audience and the workplace communication climate before using emojis in emails.

Previous research has sought to explain the rise of right-wing populist leaders in terms of the evolutionary framework of dominance and prestige. In this framework, dominance is defined as high social rank acquired via coercion and fear, and prestige is defined as high social rank acquired via competence and admiration. Previous studies have shown that right-wing populist leaders are rated as more dominant than non-populist leaders, and right-wing populist / dominant leaders are favoured in times of economic uncertainty and intergroup conflict. In this paper we explore and critique this application of dominance-prestige to politics. First, we argue that the dominance-prestige framework, originally developed to explain inter-personal relationships within small-scale societies characterised by face-to-face interaction, does not straightforwardly extend to large-scale democratic societies which have frequent anonymous interaction and complex ingroup-outgroup dynamics. Second, we show that economic uncertainty and intergroup conflict predict not only preference for dominant leaders, but also prestigious leaders. Third, we show that perceptions of leaders as dominant or prestigious are not fixed, and depend on the political ideology of the perceiver: people view leaders who share their ideology as prestigious, and who oppose their ideology as dominant, whether that ideology is liberal or conservative. Fourth, we show that political ideology is a stronger predictor than economic uncertainty of preference for Donald Trump vs Hillary Clinton in the 2016 US Presidential Election, contradicting previous findings that link Trump’s success to economic uncertainty. We conclude by suggesting that, if economic uncertainty does not directly affect preferences for right-wing populist leaders, other features of their discourse such as higher emotionality might explain their success.
