The growth in the production of titanium metal and its compounds leads to an increase in the amount of toxic waste. As a result, at the legislative level, emissions of such wastes are limited, which leads to a drop in the production of titanium-containing products and a shortage of titanium in the international market. This paper presents the results of the process of fluorination of rutile concentrate from the Tarsky deposit (Russia, Omsk region) with elemental fluorine using a laboratory setup of a special design. For fluorination, samples of rutile concentrate weighing 0.1–1.0 g were used. The particle size distribution of particles varied from 2 × 10−6 to 2 × 10−5 m. To determine the possibility of carrying out the process, the calculation of the change in the logarithm of the equilibrium constant versus temperature was performed. The influence of the following operating parameters on the fluorination process has been studied: various concentrations of F2 in a fluorinating mixture of fluorine with nitrogen; process time from 0 to 9 min; different ratios of the initial solid phase to fluorine (10 and 50% excess of fluorine and 10 and 50% of its deficiency); fluorination temperature in the range of 300–1800 K. A kinetic equation is selected that most accurately describes the fluorination process. The values of the activation energy and the preexponential factor in the kinetic equation are determined. The obtained results show that with an increase in the fluorine content in the fluorinating gas mixture and the temperature of the process, the fluorination rate increases. Optimal conditions for fluorination: temperature—680 K; time—5 min excess fluorine in the fluorinating mixture—20–25%. The obtained results allow to propose and consider the conditions of process execution on industrial equipment.

Flexible PVC/BT (Polyvinyl chloride/Barium Titanate) composite thick films with (0–30%) volume fractions of BaTiO3 were fabricated via the solution casting method. The effects of BaTiO3 filler on the phase, microstructure and dielectric properties of composite films were investigated. The XRD results revealed that BT particles are embedded in the PVC matrix with no chemical reaction taking place between the two phases. It was observed that the glass transition temperature of PVC had increased with the addition of BT. The frequency dispersion in the dielectric constant versus temperature curves indicated the relaxor nature of the composites. The dielectric constant (εr) measured at 40 °C, increased from 7.6 for pure PVC to 16.1 for 30% of BaTiO3 content in PVC polymer matrix. It is suggested that BaTiO3 ceramic powder enhanced the dielectric properties of PVC and may be used as a flexible dielectric material.

Half-metallic Heusler alloys are attracting considerable attention because of their unique half-metallic band structures, which exhibit high spin polarization and yield huge magnetoresistance ratios. Besides serving as ferromagnetic electrodes, Heusler alloys also have the potential to host spin-charge conversion. Here, we report on the spin-charge conversion effect in the prototypical Heusler alloy NiMnSb. An unusual charge signal was observed with a sign change at low temperature, which can be manipulated by film thickness and ordering structure. It is found that the spin-charge conversion has two contributions. First, the interfacial contribution causes a negative voltage signal, which is almost constant versus temperature. The second contribution is temperature dependent because it is dominated by minority states due to thermally excited magnons in the bulk part of the film. This work provides a pathway for the manipulation of spin-charge conversion in ferromagnetic metals by interface-bulk engineering for spintronic devices.

Necrophagous fly species are commonly used as forensic tools to estimate the minimum postmortem interval (PMImin). Many researchers raised necrophagous flies under constant temperature regimes to collect their developmental data. However, in most forensic cases, the ambient temperature fluctuates. In order to investigate a forensically important fly developmental mode (the Isomegalen diagram, Isomorphen diagram and Thermal summation models) and make comparisons of the developmental rate between constant temperatures and fluctuating temperatures, we used Aldrichina grahami (Diptera: Calliphoridae) to investigate the life history parameters at eight constant temperatures ranging from 8 to 36 °C. We also compared developmental rate of A. grahami in three groups of constant versus fluctuating temperatures: 8 °C vs. 6–12 °C, 12 °C vs. 10–16 °C, and 16 °C vs. 14–20 °C. Our data showed that A. grahami is cold tolerant with a mean (±SE) development threshold temperature (D0) of 3.41 ± 0.48 °C and a thermal summation constant (K) of 8125.2 ± 288.4-degree hours. The three groups subjected to fluctuating temperatures took longer to develop compared to those developing in constant temperatures when simulated in a model. These results not only provide detailed developmental data for the use of A. grahami in the estimation of the PMI, but also indicate that ambient temperature fluctuation must be taken into consideration for the use of all necrophagous fly species.
