Abstract The efficiency of determining the concentration of CO2 and H2O vapors in the atmosphere has been investigated taking into account the overlap of their spectral lines. It is proposed to use regression relationships established between the determined and measured parameters of the investigated medium. These ratios can be set both for fixed values of temperature and pressure, and for a set range of their values. When calculating the absorption value, all overlaps of spectral lines are taken into account, taking into account their broadening at different temperatures and pressures. This allows the method to be used in multicomponent media with strongly overlapping spectral lines. The established regression relations are resistant to errors in the measurement information, which also improves the accuracy of determining the concentrations of the component composition of the gas medium. In addition, they are determined promptly (in real time), since the calculation of concentrations using established relationships (analytical expressions) between the determined and measured values does not present computational difficulties.

Small strain shear modulus plays a fundamental role in the evaluation of site response parameters. Only few authors used measured density and shear wave velocity (Vs) to estimate small strain shear modulus. In this study, an attempt has been made to develop the regression relationship between standard penetration test (SPT) N values and the small strain shear modulus (Gmax). For this purpose, field investigations SPT and seismic piezocone penetration test (SCPTU) data from locations in Su-Xin Expressway of China, have been used, which were also used for ground improvement project. The in situ density of soil layer was estimated using undisturbed soil samples from the boreholes. The Vs profiles with depth were obtained for the locations close to the boreholes. The values for small strain shear modulus have been calculated by measured Vs and in situ soil density. About 50 pairs of SPT-N and Gmax values were used for regression analysis. The differences between measured and corrected values which were used in fitted regression relations were analyzed. Most of the existing correlations were developed based on the studies carried out in Japan and in India, where N values are measured with hammer energy of 78%, which may not be directly applicable for other regions because of the variation in SPT hammer energy which in China is about 55%. A new correlation has been generated using the measured values in silts of China. From this study, it is found that uncorrected values of N and modulus gives the best fit regression relations when compared to corrected N and corrected modulus values. With most equation was used for sand and clay, the regression relations between corrected values of N and modulus gives the equation of silts in China.

Abstract We present regional earthquake magnitude conversion relations among different magnitude scales (Mw, Ms, mb, ML, and MD) for the Himalayan seismic belt developed from data of local, regional, and international seismological agencies (International Seismological Centre [ISC], National Earthquake Information Centre [NEIC], Global Centroid Moment Tensor Solution [CMT], International Data Centre [IDC], China Earthquake Administration [BJI], and National Centre for Seismology [NDI]). The intra- (within the same magnitude scale) and inter- (with different magnitude scales) magnitude regression relations have been established using the general orthogonal regression and orthogonal distance regression techniques. Results show that the intra-magnitude relations for Mw, Ms, and mb reported by the Global CMT, ISC, and NEIC exhibit 1:1 relationships, whereas ML reported by the IDC, BJI, and NDI deviates from this relationship. The IDC underestimates Ms and mb compared with the ISC, NEIC, and Global CMT; this may be due to different measurement procedures adopted by the IDC agency. The inter-magnitude relations are established between Mw,Global CMT and Ms, mb, and ML reported by the ISC, NEIC, IDC, and NDI, and compared with the previously developed regional and global regression relations. The duration (MD) and local (ML) magnitudes reported by NDI exhibit a 1:1 relationship. The derived magnitude regression relations are expected to support the homogenization of the earthquake catalogs and to improve seismic hazard assessment in this region.

Demand for low-tonnage transportation of LNG requires improved logistics. Assessing the value of all parts of the supply chain is an important component of solving the problem of optimizing transportation costs for both consumers and LNG suppliers. In connection with tightening of environmental requirements regarding bunker fuel, the task of optimizing the supply of LNG for water transport by the cost of transportation becomes particularly relevant.The objective of the study is to develop a universal approach to estimating the cost of transporting low-tonnage LNG for bunkering vessels in the Russian Federation.The research methodology is focused on the analytical method based on a system-structural approach.As part of the departmental project of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade «Development of  gaspowered fleet for navigation in coastal waters and inland waterways», the authors developed technical and economic models for calculating the unit cost of LNG transportation by road and water. To calculate the unit cost of LNG transportation by rail, the data of TMkarta information and reference system were used. Based on model calculations and data of TMkarta system, regression relations were obtained that allow one to determine the cost of transportation for various options of transport and technological schemes based on a limited set of parameters. An approach has also been proposed for estimating the cost of LNG transshipment. The regression ratios were tested for selected routes. As a result,conclusions were drawn about the most effective LNG transportation options.
