The paper presents the results of studies on the sorption leaching of gold-containing ore of the Vasilkovskoye deposit. Kinetic dependences of the sorption of gold and associated metals from cyanide-alkali solutions under different physical and chemical factors were obtained. It was found that gold on the AM-2B resin sorbed at a higher rate than, for example, copper and zinc. The solutions were analyzed using modern devices of a new generation: FT-IR spectrometer "Avatar 370". Laboratory studies were performed to determine the gold sorption rate by the AM-2B anionite from cyanide-alkaline solutions. It was found in the process of sorption of gold from multicomponent cyanide-alkali solutions on AM-2B anionite of mixed basicity, with the macroporous structure containing benzyl dimethylamine and dibenzyl dimethyl ammonium functional groups, that an important factor of qualitative and quantitative separation of gold and impurity metals is the concentration of cyanide and hydroxyl ions in solution. The temperature effect on the sorption rate of gold from cyanide-alkali solutions was studied with the temperature dependences F of t, Bt, of t, ln (l - F) of t, and D of t that show that the sorption process of dicyanoaurate ions is controlled by mixed diffusion.

Clay minerals have been modified by polymers for different applications. The polymer addition affects not only the surface propertiesbut also the rheological properties and the stability of the clay-polymer suspension as a whole. In the current study, the electro-chemical properties of bentonite particles in presence of poly diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (PDDACl) were investigated. Theseproperties were characterized by as zeta potential, adsorption isotherm, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and the apparent viscosityat different solid percent. The results indicated that the viscosity of the bentonite-PDDACl suspension not only increases by raising thepolymer concentration but also by increasing solids %. Adsorption of PDDACl polymer increases the positivity of bentonite surfaceas a function of polymer concentration, which could be explained mainly by electrostatic interaction of deficient metal ions at theoctahedral sheets of bentonite with the cationic head group of the polymer. The PDDACl adsorption isotherm on bentonite fits moreprobably Langmuir than Freundlich isotherm

Nanostructures have been of paramount importance for developing immunoadjuvants. They must be cationic and non-cytotoxic, easily assembling with usually oppositely charged antigens such as proteins, haptens or nucleic acids for use in vaccines. We obtained optimal hybrid nanoparticles (NPs) from the biocompatible polymer poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and the cationic lipid dioctadecyl dimethyl ammonium bromide (DODAB) by emulsion polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) in the presence of DODAB. NPs adsorbed ovalbumin (OVA) as a model antigen and we determined their adjuvant properties. Interestingly, they elicited high double immune responses of the cellular and humoral types overcoming the poor biocompatibility of DODAB-based adjuvants of the bilayer type. The results suggested that the novel adjuvant would be possibly of use in a variety of vaccines.

Purpose This paper aims to discover a highly efficient corrosion inhibitor for 45# steel in hydrochloric acid solution and reveal the mechanism of inhibitors. Design/methodology/approach In this paper, electrochemical measurements, weight loss measurements, surface characterization and theoretical calculation are used to evaluate the inhibition performance and reveal the mechanism of inhibitors. Findings Results show that didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (DDAC), especially in combination with dodecane phenol plyoxyethylene, could provide a good protection performance for the carbon steel in hydrochloric acid. The N atoms and long alkyl chains in DDAC molecular structure play the vital role. Originality/value Usually, DDAC is used as the compound chemical disinfectant in oilfield sterilization, medicine and health. However, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, no study has shown that it can mitigate the corrosion of carbon steels in HCl solution.

Maltol, mostly used as a flavoring molecule, also has various potential applications as a biomedical compound. Despite its extensive use in the food industry, maltol’s antimicrobial activity was evaluated only briefly, and was suggested to be insufficient on its own. Recently, we have shown that maltol can be used in conjunction with cationic surfactant species to receive higher activity against contaminant microorganisms. In this paper, we have broadened the antimicrobial efficacy studies and evidenced maltol’s mode of action against Gram-negative, Gram-positive bacteria, and fungi. In addition, to increase its efficacy, blends of maltol and two selected cationic surfactants, dodecyl-dimethyl-ammonium chloride (DDAC) and polyquaternium 80 (P-80), were appraised for their activity. Broad efficacy studies revealed synergistic interactions between maltol and both cationic surfactants against most of the tested microorganisms. Electron microscopy images were used to evaluate the microorganisms’ morphology following treatment, pinpointing the specific cell wall damage caused by each of the compounds. Our findings indicate that maltol’s effect on the microbial cell wall can be complemented by catalytic amounts of selected cationic surfactants to enhance and extend its activity. Such a solution can be used as a broad-spectrum preservative for personal care products in cosmetic applications.

Abstract In this study, we observed the activity of polyphenoloxidase (PPO) in red Fuji apples in the presence of single-chained surfactants (including cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB), and dodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (DTAB)) and gemini surfactants (pentamethylene-α,ω-bis(dodecyl dimethyl ammonium bromide), octamethylene-α,ω-bis(dodecyl dimethyl ammonium bromide, dodecamethylene-α,ω-bis(dodecyl dimethyl ammonium bromide), pentamethylene-α,ω-bis(cetyl dimethyl ammonium bromide), and octamethylene-α,ω-bis(cetyl dimethyl ammonium bromide)). It was found that all these surfactants enhanced the activity of PPO in a wide range of temperature at low content. When PPO was denatured by incubating at high temperature, the surfactants caused reactivation of PPO. Compared to the single-chained surfactants, the gemini surfactants increased PPO activity at a much lower concentration. Moreover, the single-chained surfactant and the gemini surfactant acted together to further increase PPO activity, and the synergistic effect reduced the amount of surfactant used. In addition, the Michaelis-Menten constant for PPO did not change in the presence of the surfactants, suggesting the active site should remain well with the surfactants.
