Abstract In our study, the high-sensitivity colour indicator of the absorbed dose of radiation of epithermal neutrons with energy 0 to 10 keV for dosimetry of low-energy neutrons was developed. We had been developed an indicator on the basis of the dye solution of arsenazo III and gadopentetic acid, allowing precisely define of absorbed dose in the range 2 to 103 Gy. The properties of arsenazo III as metallic indicator, which changes colour after binding of free ions of metals, were used. Colour of the indicator solution before irradiation and after it is stable enough in time at storage in the dark, at artificial illumination or at scattered sunlight. The developed indicator, consisting of a solution of arsenazo III and gadopentetic acid, allows estimating the absorbed dose of epithermal neutron irradiation with good accuracy and reduces the error of measurement related to changing colour of dye under the influence of other factors (light, temperature etc.) Dosimeter is tissue-equivalent and possesses a high-sensitivity neutron radiation due to the content of gadolinium in solution, which has great neutron capture cross-section. The developed dosimeter persists spectrophotometric characteristics after irradiaion within few weeks that allows to use it for measurement of the absorbed dose, both in real time mode and with the delayed measurement within few weeks.

AbstractThe variable brightness of the night sky affects plants as well as animals and humans. However, knowledge about this variability is still insufficient. Outstanding questions regarding how significant the influence of the moon, clouds, and artificial lighting remain. To be able to make statements about these effects, measurements over a long period of time are necessary. Fraunhofer IOSB performs such measurements in the 380–780 nm photopic visual and 800–1700 nm shortwave infrared spectral range. As the latter is only marginally affected by artificial lighting, a comparison of the two bands deepens insight into the influence of artificial lighting. First analyses show that the moon is, as expected, the dominant light source in the night sky, especially during a full moon. Illuminance values up to 200 mlx and irradiance values up to 600 µW/m2 were measured in the visible and infrared respectively. The influence of clouds is more complicated. The measured intensities depend, among other things, on cloud cover and cloud altitude. When the night sky is overcast, the measured intensities can drop as low as 0.5 mlx and 0.5 µW/m2, respectively. These small values were measured during rainfall. The influence of artificial illumination is difficult to estimate, as intensities in the shortwave infrared decrease with increasing cloud cover, but increase in the visual.

The article is devoted to luminaires and the history of the development of artificial illumination. As you know, light is one of the human needs. At all stages of the development of human civilization, people have thought about how to use artificial light source if there is not enough daylight. That is why man constantly invented and improved certain light source, the framings of which we now call lighting device or luminaires. The stages of development and improvement of luminaires are a matter of separate serious scientific research. In this article, we are talking about how the development of lighting devices took place in different periods. In different epochs, luminaires corresponded to certain traditions and aesthetic views of certain architectural styles. That is why in his article the author pays great attention not only to the appearance of the described luminaires, but also to its architectural environment.

The problem of industrial injuries and occupational diseases of workers is relevant for all countries, including the Republic of Kazakhstan, where more than 200 people die every year and more than 2,000 are injured at workplaces due to hazardous and harmful production factors, including insufficient natural or artificial illumination of workplaces. The aim of the work is to study the level of illumination of workplaces at enterprises of the Republic of Kazakhstan and to establish the influence of this factor on the working conditions. The object of the study is workplaces and employees of one of the largest machine-building plants, where 60 employees were interviewed, and instrumental measurements of illumination levels were performed in two workshops. The questionnaire method and methods for assessing workplaces by the level of illumination were used. The analysis showed that the largest number of surveyed workers (58.4%) were not satisfied with the level of illumination; according to the instrumental measurements of illumination, 40.9% and 46.6% of workplaces were harmful and dangerous. Employees working under harmful conditions are entitled to a number of benefits and compensations. Thus, the creation of rational working conditions, including illumination of workplaces, helps to minimize injuries and occupational diseases and increase the efficiency and productivity of labor.

The pervasive use of glass curtain wall and artificial illumination has saturated contemporary architecture with light, depriving users of the potential experiences achieved through the articulation and interplay of light and shadow. The evaluation of light through quantifiable metric design evaluation denies users of qualitative lighting design expression that influences spatial perception and user experience, engaging the eye, mind and body over the course of the day. Homogeneous and standard lighting solutions deny users sensorial and perceptual stimulation developed through lighting variability and contrast. This thesis reconciles the use of light and shadow as an architectural design medium to support and enrich the mundane office working environment, establishing a relationship between light, the built environment, and its users. The expression of sunlight, artificial light, architectural form, the physical properties of material, and spatial ambiance improves the architectural experience and spatial perception throughout the day.

Introduction. Electronic devices (ED) are widespread among adolescents, filling their daily lives. The trend towards digitalization of all aspects of life is a global trend with the inevitable involvement of young people. The lack of existing preventive measures necessitates scientific research and intensification of work to promote a healthy lifestyle. Materials and methods. In 2019, an online survey was conducted of 200 schoolchildren in grades 9-11, 498 students in 1-6 courses, and 251 parents. In April 2020, an online survey was conducted of 1587 students of 1-6 classes and 500 parents. Measurements of physical factors were carried out at the Dolgoprudnenskaya gymnasium and the N.I. Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University. One thousand sixty-six schoolchildren and students were examined by an ophthalmologist with the help of the device “ARMISm”. Results. Negative tendencies in the state of the organ of vision, observed by students, are primarily associated with increased use of stationary and mobile ED in all age groups. Students use various ED in places with insufficient artificial illumination. In educational institutions, such places are corridors, halls, recreation, where students use their electronic devices. There are currently no separate requirements for artificial lighting by using information and communication technologies outside of classrooms or work premises. During the period of distance learning, schoolchildren and students have been established to use one more ED in comparison with the period of traditional education. The long-term effect of using mobile ED is still unknown. Conclusions. As a preventive hygienic measure for the protection of vision, it is recommended to use ED only in places with a good level of illumination, including artificial, with limited duration of continuous use of ED, with gymnastics for the eyes during breaks.

The quest for green and sustainable biofuel to serve as alternative to the conventional fossil fuel have remained a grey area in biotechnology. The Chlorella vulgaris was isolated from the African Regional Aquacultural Centre Aluu, Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Sugarcane Molasses modified Bold Basal medium was used to cultivate the Microalgae mixotrophically. The algal culture was incubated at room temperature for 15 days with continuous aeration and 12:12 hour photoperiod under artificial illumination of 2000 lux. The proximate composition of the biomass showed 6.28%wt, 67.37% wt and 11.35%wt of moisture, volatile organic matter and Fixed carbon content respectively. The ultimate composition of Chlorella biomass revealed that Carbon was 42.46% while Oxygen content was 27.93%. Nitrogen content was 6.62% while Sulphur content was 0.82% while hydrogen content was 6.74%. The study further identified that algal biomass from C. vulgaris has the potential of serving as both nutraceuticals and bioenergy feedstock. There is need for further studies around the algae oil oriented optimization as a veritable tool for biotechnological advancements.
