The article presents the results of the author’s research on the relevant topic of “new industrialization” for the country, which is the most important direction in the formation of the advanced economic development of Russia. Based on the author’s forecasting method “Phase calculation of solving strategic tasks of human resources management in Russia”, the demanded qualities of the production manager in the next thirty years are identified and determined. The industrial and educational cluster is defined as a mechanism for staffing the “new industrialization”, the author’s description of the industrial and educational cluster is given on the example of the Tver region. The main distinguishing feature of an effective industrial and educational cluster is the presence in its structure of the institute of cooperation as a connecting non-profit link of all the actors of the cluster and in the person of scientific and expert non-profit organizations serving both to counter threats of the predominance of formalism and opportunistic narrow corporate interests, and to eliminate conflicts of interest in the interaction of state and commercial structures.

One of the problems that related to quality and often occurs in the sewing process at CV Batara Apparel is that there are frequent thread break problems. Termination problems that occur are caused by an error during the thread installation process that does not pass through the needle bar hole and the thread is directly passed through the needle. This results in defects in stitches such as broken stitches. In order to solve the thread break problem caused by an error during the thread installation process that does not pass through the needle bar hole, it can be overcome by implementing SOP (Standard Operational Procedure) on proper and correct machine usage procedures, briefing supervisors with the production manager so that the problems occurs when production takes place can be handled properly. In addition, the implementation of regular maintenance schedules can also solve the thread break problems that occur. Keywords: thread break, loose stitches, quality control, SOP

Customer and order prioritization is prioritizing the orders according to features of customers and orders. In make-to-order production systems, especially when demand exceeds the capacity, a need arises for prioritizing the orders. As a customer may have more than one order and as one type of order may belong to different customers, every job order must be prioritized according to both customer and order features. Prioritization values may be used for accepting and scheduling orders or selecting customers as a reflection of supplier selection. In this chapter, the production manager and customer relationship manager of a metal processing firm were interviewed for determining the criteria for prioritizing customers and orders. After determining the criteria, the managers were asked to pairwise compare the criteria for weighting with analytical hierarchy process (AHP). Then by considering scores of customers and orders for each criterion, orders were prioritized with technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS).

The teaching case discusses a number of organizational challenges faced by a German vegetable producer. Two business consultants were hired to assist and to explore the situation in the new production facility at Peppers & More. While the CEO assumed the employees were not motivated, the consultants uncovered that various employees’ behavior, as well as a structural problem contributed to the tense situation in the production facility. During the period of analysis, it becomes apparent that there is a communication problem between the production manager and the foremen. The setup of the job rotation system and conflicts between two foremen caused further irritation at the facility. At the end of each consulting day, the consultants and the readers have to link the challenges to motivation theory and provide recommendations how Peppers & More can cope with these challenges.
