Abstract We study the impact of non-standard neutrino interactions in the context of a new gauge boson Z′ in neutral-current deep-inelastic scattering performed in ForwArd Search ExpeRiment-ν (FASERν) and in monojet production at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We simulate the neutral-current deep-inelastic neutrino-nucleon scattering νN → νN at FASERν in the presence of an additional Z′ boson, and estimate the anticipated sensitivities to the gauge coupling in a wide range of Z′ mass. At the LHC, we study the effect of Z′ on monojet production, which can be enhanced in regions with large missing transverse momenta. We then use the recent results from ATLAS with an integrated luminosity of 139 fb−1 to improve the limits on the gauge coupling of Z′. We interpret such limits on Z′ gauge couplings as bounds on effective non-standard neutrino interactions. We show that the FASERν and the LHC results cover the medium and high energy scales, respectively, and complement one another.

Abstract Dual-phase noble-gas time projection chambers (TPCs) have improved the sensitivities for dark matter direct search in past decades. The capability of TPCs to reconstruct 3-D vertexes of keV scale recoilings is one of the most advantageous features. In this work, we develop two horizontal position reconstruction algorithms for the PandaX-II dark matter search experiment using the dual-phase liquid xenon TPC. Both algorithms are optimized by the 83mKr calibration events and use photon distribution of ionization signals among photomultiplier tubes to infer the positions. According to the events coming from the gate electrode, the uncertainties in the horizontal positions are 3.4 mm (3.9 mm) in the analytical (simulation-based) algorithm for an ionization signal with several thousand photon electrons in the center of the TPC.

The article researches the topic of “artistic distrust” as a possible rebel path of the rebellious artists from the mainstream to the underground existence. The artist’s existence of reality on the principle of doubt about any norms (the model of “anthropology of distrust”) has a long historical longevity. Through the analysis of both high-quality works of art and safe normative art in different periods we observe various examples that may show this point of view. In medieval art we notice the precedent of “disobedience” and non-compliance with the norms of the official church in decorations of the temples and overcoming of anonymity. Thus the artist Anton Pilgram resorted to self-affirmation, as long as the master signed his own work in the spotlight and made a self-portrait on it.From the Renaissance, the idea of individual search, experiment, that is, disobedience and doubt in traditions, has been working in the minds of Europeans. The latest philosophical thought of the beginning of the “anthropology of distrust” sees its origins in the worldview models of the Renaissance. Leonardo da Vinci, with his curiosity and the genius of exploration, has remained an iconic figure to this day and an obvious symbol of total doubt and distrust of all that is established. With the ideal of a beautiful, flawless man, philosophy and art parted with difficulty, in the dramatic realization that it was time to present the unattractive, the ugly, the unfinished, and the negative as artistic qualities in the works of the New Age. “Anthropology of distrust,” doubting the inviolability of existing (at different times) norms manifests itself dualistically. In the works of great masters the denial of norms thatexisted in the art of a particular era had a progressive, positive meaning, because it opened up new levels of worldview to culture. In global art practice, the vast majorities of artists were and are conformists. Conformism in art supports tradition, holds the level of skill, but has no pretensions to open new horizons in the artistic reflection of the world. The situation is quite different when the artist questions any stability in art, or totally denies them. This is not a riot for the sake of a riot, but a feeling of something missing that the artist himself is not yet able to explain. According to the promising thinking of the bright philosophers of the 17th–20th centuries, self-distrust, doubts about the perfection of one’s own achievements, and a look into the non-existent are productive for culture. These impulses of the psyche proved to be fundamental and indisputable in the mentality and culture of modern times. The most radical were the programs of Dadaism and Futurism. In a person of the pre-modern era, the deviation from the norm caused stupor. Now the procedural features of the “anthropology of distrust,” the feeling of one’s own deficiency activate the artist’s creative thought and encourage a reckless search, sometimes even complete self-denial. At all times, until today, the bravest in their own rebellion against existing norms (both artistic and social) often fall on the margins of life and the artistic process, or even underground. Such artists are not understood or supported by the general public, and even worse, they are treated with suspicion and sometimes hostility. In the early 1990s, when the young generation of Ukrainian artists opposed the remnants of the Soviet mentality in both art and social life, the “anthropology of distrust” had a life-giving meaning. The mobilizing philosophy of “distrust” regarding the normative nature of socialist realism led to the formation of Ukrainian “contemporary art” which later turned into neo-conformism.

Using eye-tracking, we examined if over-specification hinders or facilitates referent selection, and the extent to which this depends on the properties of the attribute mentioned in the referring expressions and the underpinning processing mode. Following spoken instructions, participants selected the referent in a visual display while their eye movements were monitored. The referring expressions were presented either simultaneously with the displays, so the attributes could be incrementally processed in sequence, or before the display presentation, so the attributes could be processed in parallel from the outset of search. Experiment 1 showed that when the attributes were processed incrementally, how quickly an earlier-mentioned attribute discriminated determined whether a late-mentioned, over-specified attribute contributed to discrimination: When color was mentioned first and is fully discriminating, the referent was selected fast regardless of the second-mentioned pattern, whereas when pattern was mentioned first and is fully discriminating, the second-mentioned color facilitated discrimination. Experiment 2 found that under incremental processing, color mention after a fully discriminating pattern increased fixations but delayed referent selection relative to a pattern-only description; under parallel processing, however, color mention immediately eliminated alternatives and sped up referent selection. Experiment 3 showed that pattern mention after a fully discriminating color delayed referent selection and tended to reduce fixations relative to a color-only description in both processing modes. Hence, additional attributes can speed up referent selection but only when they can discriminate much faster than alternative attributes mentioned in a more concise description, and critically, when they can be used early for referent search.

Statement of the problem. The article supports the educational and cognitive potential of modern children’s literature devoted to certain topics of Russian history, and provides methodological recommendations for including such works in the circle of adolescent reading. The problem raised in the article follows an active discussion (initiated by methodological circles) of historical topics that are important for discussion with teenagers, the selection of literary texts for extracurricular reading. The purpose of the article is to present content-wise and methodological approaches to the study of modern historical prose in the process of extracurricular reading among teenagers (on the example of two topics – Ancient Russia and Stalin’s repressions). The research methodology is based on the analysis of literary works devoted to the concept of historical prose, as well as scientific and methodological sources describing the basics of extracurricular and adolescent reading (methods of theoretical research). In addition, the work is based on the method of empirical research – a survey conducted among students. Description is given to the first stage of the search experiment related with the development of a system of lessons on extracurricular reading of contemporary works on historical themes (the selection of relevant fiction for reading and its distribution among classes, basic content aspects and teaching methods that promote efficient study of historical works specifics). Research results. Based on modern approaches to the educational process, a system of lessons has been developed that focuses on the inclusion of historical works in reading for adolescents. The functional significance of such texts is justified, methodological techniques and central content aspects that are important for discussion with students are identified. Conclusion. The proposed author’s concept of studying modern historical works addressed to the adolescent reader can be implemented in school literature teaching as a way to solve important educational and cognitive tasks and develop meta-subject educational results.
