Quantum dots (QDs) are a promising tool to detect and monitor tumors. However, their small size allows them to accumulate in large quantities inside the healthy cells (in addition to the tumor cells), which increases their toxicity. In this study, we synthesized stealth liposomes encapsulating hydrophilic graphene quantum dots and triggered their release with ultrasound with the goal of developing a safer and well-controlled modality to deliver fluorescent markers to tumors. Our results confirmed the successful encapsulation of the QDs inside the core of the liposomes and showed no effect on the size or stability of the prepared liposomes. Our results also showed that low-frequency ultrasound is an effective method to release QDs encapsulated inside the liposomes in a spatially and temporally controlled manner to ensure the effective delivery of QDs to tumors while reducing their systemic toxicity.

Introduction. Importance of the search effective methods of treating chronic adenoiditis in children is associated with a high incidence and risk of developing complications. Treatment of chronic adenoiditis are described in the literature, but the advantages of any of them are inconclusive, which leads to the search for additional more progressive methods.Objective. To increase the effectiveness of the treatment of chronic adenoiditis using complex therapy of non-drug methods in combination with the herbal preparation Tonsilgon N.Materials and methods. Biochemical changes in lymphoid tissue were studied on biopsy material in 111 children with chronic adenoiditis, grade 3 adenoid hypertrophy, directed to planned surgical treatment. In the preoperative period, patients were divided into 4 groups: Group 1-control group, patients who received conventional methods of treatment; 2-study group, patients who additionally used low-frequency ultrasound irrigation of the nasal cavity and nasopharynx with photochromotherapy; The third group, patients who received the herbal preparation tonsilgon N (drops) as preoperative therapy; The fourth group study underwent low-frequency ultrasound irrigation of the nasal cavity and nasopharynx in combination with photochromotherapy and took the drug Tonsilgon N in an age-related dosage. Results and discussion. When comparing the results of biochemical studies, an increase in the products of lipid peroxidation was noted in patients of the first group, which was regarded as a factor in the protracted course of the disease. The use of targeted phytoniring drugs in combination with low-frequency ultrasonic cavitation and photochromotherapy in complex therapy significantly modulates the processes of lipid peroxidation and can potentiate the antioxidant protection of cells.Conclusion. Objective data were obtained for the first time on biochemical changes in lymphoid tissue for various methods of therapy indicate the prospects of using non-drug methods in combination with a herbal preparation in the complex therapy of chronic adenoiditis.

This paper reports on an effective method for depolymerization of fucoidan in an aqueous medium using ultrasonic treatment. To assess the effect of this treatment, high-molecular-weight fucoidan was dispersed at a concentration of 10 mg/ml in deionized water and subjected to ultrasound at a frequency of 20 kHz with varying intensity. The effect of high-intensity low-frequency ultrasound on the particle size of sulfated polysaccharides isolated from brown algae, where the minimum value of the average hydrodynamic diameter was 85.92 ± 32.9 nm, was studied. The dependence of the particle size of the polysaccharide on the intensity of ultrasonic exposure was revealed. The influence of this effect on the degree of sulfation of fucoidan has been determined. Shown the cavitation activity in the processing environment and discussed the reasons for its change

The results of morphological research of operative wound’s tissue after ultrasonic curettage of acute pilonidal abscess are presented in the article. 13 patients were treated using the offered method, and of these, 11 patients underwent morphological research of the wound’s walls. Areas of the mucoid degeneration of the fibrous connective tissue and fragments of coagulation necrosis were identified, as a result of low-frequency ultrasound. The morphological substrates of recurrence pilonidal sinus, such as stratified squamous epithelium and hair follicles, were not found in any preparation, The offered method of treatment allows for ambulatory primary radical treatment in theacute stage of pilonidal illness. The offered method of ultrasonic curettage of the pilonidal sinus requires more scientific research and monitoring.

Abstract Young lamb has high nutritional properties due to its high protein, amino acids, vitamins and microelements content. However, the specific odor and the high fat pour point are the main obstacles to the industrial use of lamb. The purpose of our research was to study the physical and chemical characteristics of raw lamb after ultrasonic salting and to select the optimal processing conditions and their economic justification. Experimental samples were salted in the devices UOM - 2 and PSB - Gals at 35 kHz ultrasound frequency, as well as using an ultrasonic submersible emitter at 26 kHz. Ultrasonic treatment has led to an increase in the pH and moisture content of the raw material, as well as in product yield. With an increase in the salting time, the water activity (Aw) decreased. Based on the results of physicochemical samples studies and comparative analysis of the economic efficiency, a submersible ultrasonic emitter with an ultrasonic frequency of 26 kHz and a salting duration of 12 hours was recommended for lamb delicacies salting.

Objective: Low-frequency ultrasound debridement with irrigation is an effective method of wound bed preparation. A recent clinical study compared hypochlorous acid preserved wound cleanser (HAPWOC) to saline and found HAPWOC to be a more effective adjunct to low frequency ultrasound debridement. However, HAPWOC has an added cost. The primary objective of this study was to assess the cost-effectiveness of HAPWOC as an irrigation modality with low-frequency ultrasound debridement for the treatment of severely complex wounds that were destined to be closed primarily via a flap. The secondary objective of this study was to estimate the number needed to treat (NNT) to avoid a wound-related complication and its expected cost per NNT. Methods: A patient-level Monte-Carlo simulation model was used to conduct a cost-effectiveness analysis from the US health system perspective. All clinical data were obtained from a prospective clinical trial. Cost data were obtained from the publicly available data sources in 2021 US dollars. The effect measure was the avoidance of wound-related complications at 14-days post-debridement. The primary outcome was the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER), a measure of the additional cost per benefit. The secondary outcomes were the NNT and expected cost per NNT to avoid one complication (complementary to the ICER in assessing cost-effectiveness). Deterministic and probabilistic sensitivity analyses (PSA) were performed to gauge the robustness and reliability of the results. Results: The ICER for HAPWOC versus saline irrigation was US$90.85 per wound complication avoided. The expected incremental cost per patient in the study and effect was US$49.97 with 55% relative reduction in wound-related complications at day 14 post debridement procedure. The NNT and cost per NNT were 2 and US$99.94, respectively. Sensitivity analyses demonstrated that these results were robust to variation in model parameters. Conclusion: HAPWOC was a cost-effective strategy for the treatment of complex wounds during ultrasonic debridement. For every two patients treated with HAPWOC, one complication was avoided.

Abstract Background To compare the accuracy of low-frequency ultrasound biomicroscopy (LFUBM) and 14-MHz ultrasonography with tissue harmonic imaging (14-MHz + THI) in the assessment of posterior capsule (PC) integrity in patients with traumatic cataracts (TCs). Methods From January 2019 to October 2020, 51 patients (51 eyes) with TCs who were scheduled for cataract extraction and for whom the PC of the lens could not be observed by the slit lamp visited Tianjin Eye Hospital, including 47 patients (47 eyes) with a penetrating injury of the eyeball and 4 patients (4 eyes) with a blunt injury of the eyeball. All eyes underwent LFUBM and 14-MHz + THI examinations before cataract extraction to determine the integrity of the PC. The integrity of the PC observed in surgery was the actual findings, and the consistency between the 2 methods was assessed in terms of the preoperative examination and intraoperative findings. Fisher’s exact test was used for consistency analysis, and P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results Thirty-two eyes with ruptured PCs and 19 eyes with intact PCs were actual findings in surgery. Thirty eyes with ruptured PCs and 21 eyes with intact PCs were examined by LFUBM. Thirty-two eyes with ruptured PCs and 19 eyes with intact PCs were examined by 14-MHz + THI. There were no significant differences between the 2 methods and the intraoperative findings (P = 0.293 LFUBM, P = 0.623 14-MHz + THI). The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and accuracy of LFUBM and 14-MHz + THI were 91 and 94%, 95 and 89%, 97 and 94%, 86 and 89% and 92 and 92%, respectively. Conclusions Both LFUBM and 14-MHz + THI were proved to have high levels sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing the status of the PC in TC and they can be used as accurate diagnostic tool in these cases.
