The primary objective of this study was to assess the efficacy of mud plus bath therapy in comparison to bath therapy alone in hand and knee osteoarthritis (HOA and KOA). We conducted a single-blinded randomized controlled trial (RCT). Patients were randomly assigned to either mud plus bath therapy (group 1) or balneotherapy (group 2). The primary outcome was a change in AUSCAN questionnaire for HOA and in WOMAC for KOA at month 12. Evaluations were performed at baseline (B), immediately after the interventions (week 2, W2) and after 3 (M3), 6 (M6), 9 (M9) and 12 (M12) months. 37 patients with KOA and 52 with HOA were randomized in the study. In HOA patients, AUSCAN pain improved more in group 1 compared to group 2 at M3, M6 and M12 (p<0.001, p=0.001 and p=0.038, respectively). AUSCAN stiffness improved more in group 1 at M3 (p=0.001). AUSCAN function improved more at M3, M6, M9 and M12 (p=0.001, p=0.001, p=0.014 and p=0.018, respectively). Regarding, KOA, WOMAC function decreased more prominently in group 1 compared to group 2 at M9 (p=0.007). The absolute values of WOMAC function at M6 and M9 were lower in group 1 compared to group 2 (p=0.029 and p=0.001, respectively). WOMAC pain absolute values were lower in group 1 at W2 (p=0.044) and at M9 (p=0.08). We conducted a RCT on the efficacy of mud plus balneotherapy over balneotherapy alone in HOA and KOA. We found that mud plus balneotherapy was more effective than balneotherapy alone on clinical outcomes of HOA. Differences in clinical outcomes of KOA were not significant, yet numerically higher.

The review of thisliterature aims to determine the effectiveness of warm water foot bath therapy in hypertensivepatients. The design in this scientific paper is a literature review search using an electronicdatabase that is Google Scholar. Keywords used in the search are hypertension, warm water footbath therapy, and blood pressure. The results found 5 articles from Google Scholar discuss theeffect of soaking feet of warm water in hypertensive patients. Haemorrhoids are common in pregnant women in the second or third trimester of pregnancy. Increased intra-pressure due to fetal growth and changes in the hormone progesterone causes the hemorrhoidal veins to become wide. Pregnancy hemorrhoids are temporary hemorrhoids which means they will disappear some time after delivery, but can cause a very uncomfortable feeling, itching around the anus and even bleeding during bowel movements. Therefore, self care is needed, one of them is the sitz bath method.                The design in this study is a pre-experiment with the One Group Pretest-Posttest design approach. The population in this study were all mothers with hemorrhoids who participated in the pregnant class at Balong Health Center for the period of 1-28 February 2020, a total of 37 people. The sampling method used accidental sampling of 31 people. Instrument with quesioner Statistical test using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test through the SPSS program with α = 0.05.                The result of knowledge of mothers about Sitz Bath Therapy in the Work Area of Puskesmas Balong, Ponorogo Regency, before health education was carried out, most of them were 16 respondents (51.6%) had sufficient knowledge and after health education was carried out most of them 18 respondents (58.1%) had good knowledge. There is an effect of health education on maternal knowledge about Sitz Bath Therapy in the working area of Health Center Balong, Ponorogo with a p value of 0.000 ≤ α 0.05.                The role of health workers as educators is better to carry out routine health education during the provision of care, especially regarding the method of sitz bath therapy so that targets can better understand and be able to overcome hemorrhoid problems that occur in pregnancy.

Uric acid is a natural antioxidant produced by the human body, but it can trigger rheumatoid arthritis if the amount exceeds the normal threshold with typical symptoms in the form of pain accompanied by swelling in the joint area, even in advanced conditions there is joint stiffness. Cymbopogon nardus (L.) Rendle or lemongrass is an effective plant to reduce joint pain and swelling. The purpose of this study was to describe the effect of warm lemongrass foot bath therapy on changes in the scale of joint pain in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. This study is a pre-experimental study with one group pre-test and post-test design without a control group, changes after two days of soaking warm lemongrass feet by observing changes in the pain scale of 23 respondents. The Wilcoxon test results showed that there was a change in the pain scale after intervention with a value of p = 0.01, which means that warm scented lemongrass foot soak affects reducing the pain scale of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The warm sensation of the foot soaking intervention provides a peripheral vasodilation effect which causes a decrease in joint pain in inflamed tissues, the chemical effect of citronellal compounds is around 32-45%, geraniol 12-18%, and citronellol 12-25% in citronella plants are also proven to play a role in reducing pain. This study concluded that warm lemongrass foot soaking therapy affected the changes in the scale of joint pain in Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Medical water therapy (also called medical hydrology) is practiced worldwide both for relaxation and treatment of diseases. While this practice is still thriving in Bhutan, there is a lack of proper documentation and critical study. Therefore, the current study reports on the water therapies practiced in Bhutan and their health benefits. We used four-stage process: (1) a review of literature on balneotherapy (both traditional textbooks and scientific papers); (2) listing and surveying the hot springs, mineral, and holy spring waters; (3) reviewing the health records of the patients maintained at the traditional hospitals and interviewing traditional physicians and patients about health benefits; and (4) reviewing available literature to identify existing clinical trials data to provide evidence for hydrotherapies. We found three main forms of hydrotherapies are practiced in Bhutan, which comprises herbal bath therapy, balneotherapy, and spiritually empowered waters. The most popular hydrotherapies are herbal bath and hot spring therapies. Herbal bath therapy needs traditional physicians’ prescriptions, while hot springs do not require it. Through field surveys, ten different hot springs (tsha-chu) and 17 medicinal water or mineral springs (sman-chu), and 17 holy spring-waters (sgrub-chu) were identified. In general, medical water therapies are used by the Bhutanese people to treat various ailments, including gastritis, neurological disorders, arthritis, dermatological diseases, and rheumatological and musculoskeletal disorders. Even though a lack of scientific evidence makes it difficult to draw concrete conclusions on their traditionally claimed efficacy and safety, there are clinical evidences documented from other countries.
