The article discusses issues related to the history of creation, performance, prohibition and discussions which surrounded the First Symphony of the remarkable Russian composer Gavriil Popov. The fate of the composition turned out to be tragic: once performed, the symphony was banned. It was one of the first public “executions” of a musical work — even before the infamous articles of the newspaper Pravda about the opera Lady Macbeth and the ballet Light Stream by Dmitry Shostakovich, which marked the beginning of the struggle against the “anti-national, formalistic trend” in music. Long years of oblivion led to the fact that the Symphony “fell out” of the history of Soviet music. Through the efforts of such musicologists as Inna Barsova, Inna Romashchuk, Yekaterina Vlasova, Igor Vorobyov, conductors Gennady Provatorov and Alexander Titov, Popov’s First Symphony was revitalized. And now the question arises regarding the first publication of this undeservedly forgotten outstanding work of the Soviet music.

The study analyses István Szilágyi’s widely known novel Kő hull apadó kútba («A Stone Drops in a Dwindling Well») from the viewpont of fatefulness and falling into sin. The novel is an outstanding work in the 20th century hungarian literature, written by István Szilágyi who lives in the present Romania, Transylvania. The main character, Ilka Szendy faces with ethical dilemmas which can be examined from newer trends of cultural studies such as xenology. This study focuses on the following questions: how does the social system and compunction distort the personality? How does Ilka Szendy become a foreigner in the milieu in which she grown up? What kind of poetical pecularities, motifs, time and place usage represents the girl’s fate in the 20th century by the author? In the beginning of the study I explain the process how the literary historians realised the significance of this novel. This is an important issue because the history of hungarian literature and the history of hungarian literature across Hungary’s border developed differently in the 20th century – different experiences and poetical pecularities can be found in a novel. There are three different reading and canonizing strategies which outlined from the criticisms and studies: in the case of the first one, the emphasize was on the novel’s social aspects. The second one focused on the poetical aspect and structure. In the 2000s occurred the newest strategy which analyses the novel from the viewpoint of cultural studies. In this study I apply this third strategy. With the help of close reading I try to attempt connecting the own body’s alienation and the multiplication of the main character’s (Ilka Szendy) personality with the traumas that she experienced at her young age. Several experiences preceded the fall into sin (murdering), but the narrator tells them only later in the novel. As a reader we can explore the most effectively the fall into sin and the fulfillment of destiny through the context of Ilka Szendy’s experiences, deeds, thoughts, motifs, metaphors and the secrets that lead us into the family’s past. In the end of the study I connect Ilka Szendy’s destiny with her family’s past. The girl died beceause she rode for the fall. She knew that she could never be relesead from her guilt, she could receive absolution only by death.

“Whitehorn’s Windmill” is considered to be the most outstanding work of KazysBoruta and one of the most important Lithuanian novels of the 20th century. Thebook was written during World War II when the Lithuanian state became theobject of aggression of two totalitarian powers and lost independence for a longtime, and it has grown from the writer’s anxiety about the fate of his country and the persistence of Lithuanian identity. Hence, Boruta reached for the richresources of the native folklore, to evoke the mythologized image of theLithuanian village, which in Lithuanian literature has the rank of chronotope, and at the same time, it is an important component of Lithuanian imaginationabout the sources of national culture. The story, the meaning and functions of the“Whitehorn’s Windmill,” its genesis and post-war fate, its literary and non-literarycontexts, as well as the history of its reception, allow us to interpret the workfrom the perspective of reflection on literature as a medium of cultural memory.

Mathematics plays a predominant role in our everyday life and has become an indispensable factor for the progress of our present day world. Counting starts from day one of the birth of a person. Most students would like to know why they have to study various mathematical concepts. Teachers usually cannot think of a real-life application for most topics or the examples that they have are beyond the level of most students. Mathematics is generally regarded as the driest subject at school, made up of routine, difficult, boring, arcane and irrelevant calculations which have nothing to do with discovery and imagination. In this paper, I have discussed the purposes of mathematics, aims of mathematics education and the rationales for a broad-based school curriculum followed by some examples of applications of mathematics in the workplace that secondary school and junior college students can understand. Lastly, I will look at how mathematical processes, such as problem solving, investigation, and analytical and critical thinking, are important in the workplace. The truly outstanding work of this research paper is a collection of review papers / articles investigating the open problems. In this paper I have discussed recent advances, problems and their current status as well as historical background of the subjects. It will help the students in pursuing higher education in their respective fields.

It is investigated how a poet who was born in Minsk, was brought up in the cities of Nizhny Novgorod and Yaroslavl in the close family environment of the great Russian writer Maxim Gorky, felt that he was a Belarusian poet (collection of poetry “Wreath”, Vilnia, 1913), called Belarus “Matzi-Kraina”. Thanks to his poetic gift, through originality, self-awareness, self-determination and self-affirmation in poetry, the history of literature declared himself as a genius of Belarusian poetry. Maksim Bogdanovich argued that Belarusian literature “is not a monster, not a rarity, not a unique one”, but the outstanding work of the Belarusian people developed in genre and stylistic terms, it can rightfully be put on a par with other literatures of the peoples of the world. The poet also showed himself as a critic, translator, introduced a variety of genres and styles into Belarusian poetry. The name of Maxim Bogdanovich is on a par with the names of Yanka Kupala and Yakub Kolas. These are three stars of the first magnitude in the history of the Belarusian red writing.

The article is devoted to the multifaceted topic of attitude to labour, which remains relevant for representatives of a number of social sciences and practices due to the extraordinary complexity of the phenomenon of labour itself and the increasing rate of change in the structure of employment. Representatives of the exact sciences also do not ignore this topic. A worthy example is the fascinating book of autobiographical essays by the famous radio engineer and scientist Kira Belostotskaya, Honored Creator and Tester of space technology. In addition to the undoubted literary merits, these are undoubtedly useful for professionals carefully documented observations about labour and work, expressed in a literary, emotionally caring form. About their fullness of meanings associated with a specific job in the outstanding work collective of Experimental design bureau of MPEI, a talented social community and its outstanding persons. This is a cognitively interesting story about the value foundations of highly qualified creative engineering labour, about the choice of “work that matches your soul” and professional growth, behavior at work and effective organizational culture, leadership and personnel policy, about many other things that are important for organizing work with personnel that meet the requirements of the time. The list of problems that form the whole subject of activity of specialists in personnel management would take up too much space. However, even the listed ones allow us to recommend reading the book under discussion to representatives of this demanded profession as a rare opportunity for a broader view of the corresponding labour activity that goes beyond current affairs.

This article analyzes the music to the ballet “Yaroslavna” by the prominent Russian composer of the late XX century B. Tishchenko (1939–2010). The written and staged in 1974 ballet has become one of the most remarkable musical achievements of that time. Emphasis is palced on the fact that Tishchenko composed “Yaroslavna” using all available modern orchestral means of expression on the basis of the Old Russian text “The Tale of Igor's Campaign”. Tishchenko did not seek stylization of his work, but brought the word of the nameless chronicler closer to modern era. He introduces choir to the ballet music to augment its power. The author features Tishchenko's outstanding work with orchestral texture and various instrumental timbres and colors. The novelty of this research lies in studying the music to the ballet “Yaroslavna” in the context of general vector of the revival of Russian symphonic style in the 1960s–1970s. The author notes the leading role of Boris Tishchenko in this remarkable process. The conclusion is made that the composition turned out to be multigenre, consisting of multiple parts; and that Tishchenko has broadened musical lexicon of the Russian music culture to the maximum. The music to the ballet was saturated with truly symphonic content, opened new artistic paths, and enriched modern orchestral palette.
