FRCS Trauma and Orthopaedics Viva includes over 95 viva topics. Completely updated to include current clinical management guidelines and exam hot topics, the book is brought to you again from the team behind the highly successful Oxford revision course. Based on the principle that viva candidates improve their technique by observing and learning from others, the editor team have created a best-practice formula for dealing with the individual scenarios. The book is set out in a simple format and every viva topic is introduced by an initial clinical photograph, radiograph, or diagram. Sets of questions follow underneath with the suggested answers. This allows the reader to work in pairs, groups, or on their own.

Background: Systematic reviews are comprehensive, robust, inclusive, transparent, and reproducible when bringing together the evidence to answer a research question. Various guidelines provide recommendations on the expertise required to conduct a systematic review, where and how to search for literature, and what should be reported in the published review. However, the finer details of the search results are not typically reported to allow the search methods or search efficiency to be evaluated.Case Presentation: This case study presents a search summary table, containing the details of which databases were searched, which supplementary search methods were used, and where the included articles were found. It was developed and published alongside a recent systematic review. This simple format can be used in future systematic reviews to improve search results reporting. Conclusions: Publishing a search summary table in all systematic reviews would add to the growing evidence base about information retrieval, which would help in determining which databases to search for which type of review (in terms of either topic or scope), what supplementary search methods are most effective, what type of literature is being included, and where it is found. It would also provide evidence for future searching and search methods research.

AbstractInfographics are a new way of visually communicating information in a colorful and concise manner. They are becoming very popular in medical field since the last decade. Through infographics, one can understand the subjects through text, graphics, and images. Total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) is a technique of general anesthesia (GA) given via intravenous (IV) route exclusively. In perspective of infographics, TIVA is far more understandable through its simple format. TIVA is also more advantageous than inhalational anesthesia. It avoids the deleterious effects of immunosuppressant and lacks any respiratory irritation, thus providing a good alternative anesthesia technique. Many peripheral surgeries can be done with the patient breathing spontaneously without any airway device, thus avoiding airway instrumentation, leading to droplet and aerosol generation. IV agents can be utilized to provide sedation during regional anesthesia (RA), which can easily be escalated to contain pain due to sparing of blocks or receding neuraxial anesthesia. The present narrative review focuses on the infographics in TIVA technique, providing highlights pertaining to its importance.

Nowadays, people are using lots of websites for searching and retrieving information. Most of the websites keep information in a simple format with all information simply linked with each other. Such type of information has less accuracy. So, there is utmost important to work on knowledge-based, information presentation. Hence, the advent of the semantic web called intelligent and meaningful web is a new trend in the area of web development. Ontology is a key term widely used in the development of the Semantic Web. It is an idea, which strongly focused on class, object, and relationship relatively than information. Protégé is a tool widely used for ontology development and customization. It has a user interface for ontology results visualization. It provides a view for a developer for a strong focus on creating knowledge rather than syntax. It provides the flexibility to add-on more additional features by the extendable plug-in. The purpose of this work is to develop a knowledge-based university system. Here, as an example of Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University Delhi has been taken and created a university ontology using protégé tool. It also includes various aspects like classes, class hierarchy, superclass and subclass, and also created a subclass instance for designing class, class hierarchy, query searching, and retrieval process, and the result is demonstrated in graphical form.

AbstractSingle-molecule assays have, by definition, the ultimate sensitivity and represent the next frontier in biological analysis and diagnostics. However, many of these powerful technologies require dedicated laboratories and trained personnel and have therefore remained research tools for specialists. Here, we present a single-molecule confocal system built from a 3D-printed scaffold, resulting in a compact, plug and play device called the AttoBright. This device performs single photon counting and fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) in a simple format and is widely applicable to the detection of single fluorophores, proteins, liposomes or bacteria. The power of single-molecule detection is demonstrated by detecting single α-synuclein amyloid fibrils, that are currently evaluated as biomarkers for Parkinson’s disease, with an improved sensitivity of >100,000-fold over bulk measurements.

Aims: To describe the results of translation and back-translation of the TeamSTEPPS® questionnaire to Brazilian Portuguese. This North American questionnaire has been used globally as an useful tool in simulation environment with evaluation intent, aiming at improving patient safety inside health settings, based on effective communication and teamwork. Methods: The adopted methodology consisted in translation and back-translation, with subsequent semantic analysis by experienced professors in health practice evaluations. Results: The translated tool showed a simple format and easy interpretation and understanding when analyzed by authors, professors and translators, and does not generate any kind of discrepancy in their items. In the subsequent analysis by the professors, it was shown that the items were relevant and clear to the Brazilian reality. Conclusions: All the steps of the translation and back-translation process were carried out successfully, finalizing the TeamSTEPPS® teamwork assessment tool in Brazilian Portuguese. The translation process of any tool is complex, and does not end in the linguistic equivalence. Therefore, a second step of this work will be the application of this scale in simulated scenarios focused in teamwork training, to retrace data on psychometric analyses in the educational context and semantic equivalence analyses.

AbstractDuplicate or triplicate experimental replicates are commonplace in the high throughput literature. However, it has not been tested whether this is statistically defensible or not. To address this issue, we use probabilistic programming to develop a simple hierarchical model for analyzing high throughput measurement data. With the model and simulated data, we show that a small increase in replicate experiments can quantitatively improve accuracy in measurement. We also provide posterior densities for statistical parameters used in the evaluation of HT data. Finally, we provide an extensible open source implementation that ingests data structured in a simple format and produces posterior densities of estimated measurement and assay evaluation parameters.
