If you’re like me, you didn’t pursue your studies out of a love for public speaking, yet you may find that presenting your work is a vital part of doing science. For a researcher’s findings to have impact, they must be shared with and communicated to others, preferably in a way that is easy to understand, interesting, and memorable. When it comes to giving presentations, we all know the basics of what not to do: Don’t cram too much information into your slides, don’t ignore your audience, don’t read off your slides. On the other hand, it's not always clear what makes a good presentation good.

Due to the COVID-19 crisis schools and universities all around the world were forced to use digital learning methods. But even assuming a seamless transition to digital platforms, good Online Learning tools do not imply good content and a good presentation of the content. This article describes the approach of a project funded by the European Union to create brain-stimulating Online Learning content which combines elements from classic didactics with elements from neurodidactics and aims to add value to Online Learning. It also suggests that further research should be conducted in other contexts, such as schools and universities, to describe how brain-stimulating Online Learning content could bring more value to Online Learning content.

In Yogyakarta, there are several photography cliques that periodically hold photo exhibitions, usually annualy. This event adds to the dynamic of Indonesia photography world and also to improve the development of photography in Indonesia. Photos need to be supported with proper presentation to ensure the intended message can be conveyed through. Aside of that, a good presentation will raise the photo value and appreciation from the visitors. Unfortunately, photo presentations that has been done by cliques within FORKOM Jogja still needs improvement. Hence it is needed to create a workshop about photo presentation and exhibit preparation. The methods used is theoretical lesson done in classroom by the lecturers of Indonesian Institute of Arts (ISI Yogyakarta) from Photography major. One of the practice being shown is the photo presentation from the photographer Mes56 Yogyakarta. Based on the conducted workshop that has been done to a small number of photography communities in Yogyakarta, it can be deduced that material about exhibit presentation is highly needed by the photography communities. The way of how a photo is presented heavily influences the photo’s value and is exploitable to connect more with the photo.

“A picture is worth a thousand words.” Based on this well-known adage, we can say that images are important in our society, and increasingly so. Currently, the Internet is the main channel of socialization and marketing, where we seek to communicate in the most efficient way possible. People receive a large amount of information daily and that is where the need to attract attention with quality content and good presentation arises. Social networks, for example, are becoming more visual every day. Only on Facebook can you see that the success of a publication increases up to 180% if it is accompanied by an image. That is why it is not surprising that platforms such as Pinterest and Instagram have grown so much, and have positioned themselves thanks to their power to communicate with images. In a world where more and more relationships and transactions are made through computer applications, many decisions are made based on the quality, aesthetic value or impact of digital images. In the present work, a quality prediction system for digital images was developed, trained from the quality perception of a group of humans.

University of Abdurachman Saleh Situbondo (UNARS) through its Language Center holds a General English (GE) course every semester for its lecturers. However, the lecturers as the course participants are not satisfied with the course. They claim that an ESP course is more suitable for them because they want to develop skills to be a good speaker in international seminars. Many lecturers at UNARS have never attended any international seminars because they feel unconfident to speak in English. They say that their public speaking skills are not enough to help them speak confidently. Essentially, English learning that is suitable for these lecturers is English for Specific Purposes (ESP). The Language Center of UNARS has never held any ESP course that focuses on becoming a presenter in international seminars. This is because of the unavailability of the suitable modules that really suit the participants’ background and culture. Existing commercial books cannot be used as learning resources because of the gaps between participants’ background and culture in the context and the content commercial books offer. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to develop an ESP module for the English course participants at the Language Center of UNARS. The module covers materials on basic principles of public speaking, how to create powerful power point presentation, and how to become a good speaker. With the development of this module, it is expected that the course participants, in this case UNARS lecturers, will have good presentation skills to present in international seminars.   Keywords: ESP, module, presentation skills, UNARS’ lecturers

Good presentation skills are important. Why? When you improve your presentation skills, you improve your ability to engage your audience and communicate whatever science you happen to do. In graduate school you learn how to do research, and you sometimes learn how to teach, but how often do you actually learn how to give an effective, engaging presentation? In this personal view I recount some of my early experiences as a presenter and some of the techniques I use to (hopefully) engage my audiences.
