There has been much concern about germanium because of its special atomic nuclear structure to generate negative electrons and far-infrared ray. In this study, novel germanium-polyamide6 fibers were prepared by using micro–nano structured germanium particles as a functional component via melt spinning. The effects of germanium concentration on the morphology, mechanical, negative air ion-releasing, and far-infrared radiation properties of the germanium-polyamide6 fibers were systematically investigated. Besides, the antibacterial activity and mechanism of the fibers against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli were also discussed. Even though the added germanium particles negatively affected the mechanical performance of the fiber, they were distributed well in the polyamide6 substrate when the concentration was increased from 2% to 6%. Increasing the temperature and pressure induced the germanium-polyamide6 fibers to produce more negative air ions and high far-infrared emissivity. The negative air ion-releasing property of the fiber led to antibacterial performance against S. aureus with more than 99% antibacterial rate. The results confirmed the great application potential of germanium in healthcare, medical, home, and apparel textiles.

COVID-19 virus causes mass death worldwide which is facing an unending battle that needs unconventional evidence in complementary and alternative medicine. This review aims to elucidate the possible health benefit of far infrared from Nuga Bed/Mat® along with its heat produced and the application of castor oil pack that has antiviral property in the management of coronavirus infection. Far infrared radiation from Nuga Bed/Mat® has low wavelength and is perceived as heat by the thermoreceptors of the human body. The presence of heat from the Nuga Bed/Mat® coming from the far infrared radiation gives sufficient health benefits including detoxification, pain relief, reduction of muscle tension, relaxation, improved circulation, boosting of the immune system and lowering of blood pressure. SARS-CoV-2 infection manifests inflammation of the vascular endothelium which prevents proper circulation of the blood and can further progress to blood clotting. Treatment with Far infrared radiation for 40 minutes to 2 hours causes the stimulation of HO-1 protein that induces anti-inflammatory activity on the vascular endothelium and other sites of inflammation. Hence, improved blood flow can be expected after an exposure with far infrared radiation. With the added castor oil, spread on the specific site which has a corresponding antiviral property, the possibility of alleviation from the symptoms associated with coronavirus infection can give a light of hope as an alternative remedy.

The electromagnetic waves constitute different wavelengths of light from which Far infrared (FIR) is beneficial for living cells. Extensive studies and trials have been conducted over the last two decades in multidimensional biological domains to identify its unlimited health benefits. FIR radiations improve the microcirculation of the human body, stimulate cell growth, penetrate through skin tissues non-invasively, create intramolecular vibrations create an overall healthy metabolism, which ultimately affects overall improved cardiac and metabolic activity. This phenomenon is used to explore different pathological conditions to identify their significance in the medical field. In this review, we explored the biological effectiveness and the medical significance of Far infrared radiation (FIR) in murine melanoma Cell Growth, Lymphedema, airborne viruses, Cardiac diseases, Wound healing and burns, Autonomic Activities, Hemodialysis, Allergic Rhinitis, Aesthetic medicine, textiles, and other domains such as obesity and gut microbiota.
