The study determined the effectiveness of Observation Response and Self-Approach (ORSA) in improving the grammatical competence of Grade 7 learners of Looc Integrated School. This study used the quasi- experimental design and pretest/ posttest questionnaire. ORSA was used as an approach to teach students grammar including WH questions, verb, and prepositions. This was limited to selected Grade 7 students with the lowest grammatical competence. The ORSA study was taken from the name of the author itself, a new way to assess students through positive assessments that explores the learner’s innate talents and skills and to reassure and to encourage the development of strength in students. It is also centered on the pedagogical approaches and emphasizes the use of positive assessment as to its unique feature in evaluating students’ performance utilizing non-threatening assessments that motivated the students to develop self-efficacy and eventually become an independent learner whose competencies acquired are internationally aligned and acceptable even during this new normal in the time of pandemic. The idea of ORSA can be anchored on Locke’s idea of reflection. Before applying the approaches, students got lower scores. After being exposed to the approaches, their mean scores increased. It can be implied that through the use of ORSA, the students think and question that they have learned through the persuasion of the teacher, they believed in themselves and in what they have learned. ORSA and K to 12, the two groups of student-participants have different levels of grammatical competence. As observed in the obtained means, students exposed to ORSA achieved higher grammatical competence as compared to students exposed to K to 12 teaching approach. This connotes that ORSA is proven effective in enhancing the grammatical competence of the students

The quality of education depends on the teacher as well as to the curriculum. As the prime movers to attain the addressed goals in the curriculum, teachers must have the desire to grow and improve through professional development and constant learning towards students ‘academic achievement. The descriptive method of research was utilized in this study to assess the competency level of the MAPEH teachers in teaching performing arts based on the K to 12 Curriculum. Results of the study revealed that majority of the respondents were females, married and 40 years old and below. They earned units/finished their master’s degree, held a teacher position, and had 10 years and below teaching experience. With regard to artistic inclinations particularly in terms of dancing, majority of them have potential in folk dance and modern dance. In terms of music, some teachers could play musical instruments skillfully such as guitar and piano/organ. They were highly competent in using assessment data, monitoring students’ data and achievement, using ICT resources for the teaching-learning process, giving feedbacks, making good use of allotted time and employing design. Individual or group experiential learning, cooperative learning, project method and collaborative activities were most commonly used strategies in teaching performing arts. Meanwhile, lack of facilities and equipment and limited seminars, workshops, and trainings attended were the common problems encountered.

There are a growing number of education programs in science and STEM education with the aim of improving educational outcomes for Indigenous students who have long been underrepresented in current education systems. The aim of this study is to systematically review empirical research from 2011 to 2020 that reported programs to support Indigenous students in science and STEM education. A total of 24 studies were included in this review. These programs involved student participants from all K to 12 grade levels and occurred in both formal and informal contexts. Most of the programs employed multifaced approaches, and cultural relevance and scientific inquiry practice were the two main features of the programs. All the programs had reported positive outcomes in relation to Indigenous students’ science learning, understanding of their own cultures and traditions, and/or the complementarity of Western science and Indigenous knowledge.

The study correlated the instructional leadership practices of school administrators with teachers’ competencies. Using a sample size of 208 teachers and 22 school administrators chosen as respondents with a descriptive-correlational research design, the study has able to find out that the demographic profile of the respondents were females, with MA units, in the position of teacher II, and were widowed. On the average, the number of years in service, current school and position of the teachers was 5 years and above. It further revealed that the respondents’ evaluation of the instructional leadership practices of School administrators showed an agreed response. It showed that on planning to modify and improve instruction on curriculum improvement was the highest to follow changes like the k to 12 and be able to globally compete to the outside countries. It also showed that the performance teachers perceived impact through instructional leadership practices of their administrators which showed an agreed response. The teacher’s competence on learning environment was the highest to be able to know the dedication of the teachers to teach and make students learned from them. It showed that there is no significant relationship between instructional leadership practices of School Administrators and Teachers’ Performance.

The present study describes the attempt to achieve the competencies of the Philippine K to 12 Science Program through thematic instruction. It seeks to address the challenges encountered by science teachers with the current curriculum design. The researchers used a thematic instructional model in giving classroom instruction. Two sets of pre-service teachers, taking part as facilitators and as observers, were purposely chosen in the study. The researchers used convergent mixed methods design in analysing the pre-service teachers' experience and observations in teaching through thematic instruction. Results revealed that the thematic instruction implemented in the study has the potential to address the challenges of the current K to 12 science curriculum in terms of design, lesson content, and implementation. Consequently, the results suggest that the thematic instruction design in the study can be used to help achieve the desired outcomes of the K to 12 Science Curriculum.

The COVID-19 crisis practically magnified the normal fear of people, bringing other negative psychological outcomes such as job burnout. Building on this assumption, this paper aimed to compare fear of COVID-19 and remote teaching burnout across sample characteristics and relate fear of COVID-19 to the remote teaching burnout. Following comparative and correlational research designs, a sample of 1069 K to 12 Filipino teachers was selected to participate in the online survey. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed that the teachers have a high level of fear of COVID-19 and a moderate level of remote teaching burnout. Furthermore, COVID-19 fear of teachers did not significantly differ across all sample characteristics tested; however, remote teaching burnout significantly differed across age, monthly income, educational attainment, and teaching experience, except gender.  It was further revealed that there is a positive and moderate significant relationship between fear of COVID-19 and remote teaching burnout. This linear association implies that as fear of COVID-19 of teachers increases, their remote teaching burnout also increases. Considering the current persistence of COVID-19 cases and the role of teachers in the anticipated recovery phase of education, the results of the study indicate the urgent attention of education authorities to develop measures to address the needs of teachers who may have psychological issues brought by fear of COVID-19 and remote teaching burnout.

Curriculum reforms are implemented in various countries to improve their educational system. This article presents the teaching competencies, needs and challenges encountered by the Department of Education (DepEd) Science teachers in Partido District, Camarines Sur, Philippines along with the implementation of the K to 12 Science curriculum. It employed the descriptive method of research and administered the researcher-made instrument to 49 DepEd Science teachers. The majority of the teachers rated themselves with very high competencies in Earth Science and Biology and high competencies in Chemistry and Physics, however some expressed need to further deepen their understanding in some concepts such as Light and Electricity, Circular Motion, Projectile Motion, Conservation of Linear Momentum, and Concentration of Solutions. Teachers attain proficiency of a more complex competency if they acquire proficiency of preceding competencies. The availability of instructional materials and the “concept of experience” help teachers have a better grasp of science concepts. Continued support from the government and other stakeholders is needed to address the perennial problems/challenges that DepEd teachers encountered.
