Abstract Background Joint manifestations during chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) represent the most frequent extra digestive manifestations, dominated by spondylarthropathy, isolated sacroillitis and peripheral rheumatism. We conducted a retrospective study of 9 cases of IBD collected in the pediatric services of the CHU MOHAMMED VI of Oujda over a 4 year period from July 2017 to March 2021.The objective of our study is to describe the joint manifestations in inflammatory bowel diseases in children. Materials and methods This is a retrospective study of 9 cases of IBD collected in the pediatric services of the CHU MOHAMMED VI of Oujda over a 4-year period from June 2017 to March 2021. All these parameters were collected on operating sheets and reported on ExcelThe data were collected from the files registered in a pediatric hospitalization register Results Our study includes 9 patients with male predominance in 60% of cases, the prevalence of joint manifestations was 45% of which 3/4 of cases are in Crohn's disease and 1/4 of cases in UC.Axial joint involvement was 25% in Crohn's disease while joint involvement was peripheral in 75% of which 2/3 in Crohn's and 1/3 in UC.Peripheral involvement affects the large joints in all patients with a bilateral character. With a biological inflammatory syndrome in which the CRP was >50 mg/l and the VS more than 30All patients received corticotherapy and analgesics in 25% of cases. The evolution was marked by a good clinical and biological improvement with an average delay of 10 days. Discussion Ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD) are chronic cryptogenetic inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). In addition to intestinal involvement, these IBDs are associated in 20% to30% of cases with extra digestive manifestations, with joint manifestations being the most frequent. There are essentially two types: Peripheral attacks which are the most frequent (8–20% of patients) especially during Crohn's disease; All joints can be affected, but most often asymmetric oligoarthritisAxial involvement includes sacroiliitis (SI) and ankylosing spondylitis (SpA) SI is more prevalent than SpA in both UC and CD Treatment of joint manifestations involves rest and exercise% tocontrol spinal stiffening in axial involvement; and analgesics Close collaboration between gastro-pediatricians and pediatric rheumatologists is the key to optimal management of the extra-digestive manifestations of IBD. Conclusion Joint involvement plays an important role in the extra digestive manifestations of IBD. It should be systematically screened in IBD patients, especially if they present a biological inflammatory syndrome, thus enabling early diagnosis and better management.

The coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has disrupted inpatient pediatric services across the United States, creating opportunities for innovation. A recent Webinar organized by the Telehealth for Pediatric GI Care Now working group and sponsored by the North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition provided insights into how inpatient pediatric gastroenterology services were affected and how physicians adapted during the crisis. These findings suggest the use of telehealth technologies may augment family communication and facilitate multidisciplinary care in the future. We anticipate that these innovative applications of telehealth will comprise a part of a toolkit for gastroenterologists to be used during this public health emergency and beyond.

Пандемия новой коронавирусной инфекции продиктовала необходимость разработки и организации для сложившейся эпидемической обстановки мер по качественному оказанию специализированной детской онкологической помощи своевременно и в полном объеме, при этом важно обеспечить предупреждение заноса и распространения COVID-19 в специализированных подразделениях. Опыт работы региональной детской онкологической службы в Челябинской области показал, что даже в условиях пандемии можно ни на день не прекращать работу специализированного стационара, максимально сохранить центральный венозный доступ у контактных пациентов и свести к минимуму их потери по срокам программного лечения. Результат мог быть обеспечен только слаженной работой мультидисциплинарной команды, включившей администрацию, эпидемиологическую, выездную паллиативную, детскую онкологическую и участковую педиатрическую службы. The pandemic of a new coronavirus infection dictated the need to develop and organize, for the current epidemic situation, measures for the high-quality provision of specialized pediatric oncological care in a timely manner and in full, while it is important to prevent the introduction and spread of COVID-19 in specialized units. The experience of the regional pediatric oncological service in the Chelyabinsk region has shown that even in a pandemic, it is possible not to stop the work of a specialized hospital for a day, to preserve the central venous access in contact patients as much as possible and to minimize their losses in terms of program treatment. The result could only be ensured by the well-coordinated work of a multidisciplinary team that included administration, epidemiological, visiting palliative, children's oncological and district pediatric services.

The COVID-19 pandemic and global lockdown have had drastic socioeconomic and psychological effects on countries and people, respectively. There has been limited access to health care and education. These negative consequences have had a significant impact on the well-being of children and adolescents. Therefore, the EAP and the ECPCP are requesting state, health, and education authorities as well as European pediatric societies and the healthcare professionals that special attention be given to this population and the problems they face as a result of the pandemic.

Abstract Background Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains are prevalent in healthcare services. Medical students are at risk for MRSA carriage, subsequent infection and potential transmission of nosocomial infection.Few studies have examined MRSA carriage among medical students. Methods In this prospective cohort study, between July 2016 and June 2017, two nasal swab samples were taken per student 4 weeks apart during their pediatric internship. MRSA typing was performed by staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) types, Panton Valentine leukocidin (PVL) encoding genes. Results A total of 239 sixth year medical students, 164 (68.6%) male (M/F:2.1),with median age 25 years (min–max; 23–65 years) were included in this prospective cohort study. Among 239 students, 17 students (7.1%) were found to be colonized with methicillin-sensitive S. aureus (MSSA) at the beginning of pediatric internship. After 4 weeks, at the end of pediatric internship totally 52 students were found to be S. aureus colonized (21.8%). Three of 52 S. aureus isolates were MRSA (1.3%) and the rest was MSSA (20.5%), all were PVL gen negative. Two of three MRSA isolates were characterized as SCCmec type IV, one isolate was untypeable SCCmec. Nasal carriage of S. aureus increased from 7.1% to 21.5% (p < 0.001). Nasal S. aures colonization ratio was higher in students working in pediatric infectious disease service (p = 0.046). Smoking was found to be associated with a 2.37-fold [95% CI (1.12–5.00); p = 0.023] and number of patients in pediatric services was 2.66-fold [95% CI (1.13–6.27); p = 0.024] increase the risk of nasal S. aureus colonization. Gender was not found to increase risk of MRSA carriage. Conclusion MSSA nasal carriage increased at the end of pediatric internship and significantly high in students working in pediatric infectious diseases services. Smoking and high number of patients in pediatric services significantly increase S.aureus colonization.

Objective: To estimate the recommended lifespan of 223 peripheral intravenous accesses in pediatric services. Method: In this cohort study, we monitored the time of intravenous catheter between insertion and removal in children aged up to 15 years old in a Hospital from Bogotá-Colombia. The routine catheter observations was registered in questionnaires during nursing shifts. Survival analyses were performed to analyze the lifespan of the catheter free of complications. Results: The median lifespan of peripheral intravenous catheters without complications was 129 h (IQR 73.6–393.4 h). This median time free from complications was much lower for children ⩽1 year 98.3 h (IQR 63–141 h), than for participants aged >1 year 207.4 h (IQR 100–393 h). Catheters of 24 G (gauge) caliber had a median complication free time of 128 h (IQR 69–207 h) and 22 G calibers 144 h (IQR 103–393 h). Conclusions: In this study, 75% of peripheral indwell catheters remained free from complications for 74 h, the other extreme 25% of these patients could remain up to 393 h.
