Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has led to an increase in stigmatizing and discriminatory discourses against older individuals in the community. Explaining that older adults are the highest risk group, labeling individuals based on chronological age instead of personal characteristics, restrictive measures taken, and the way these measures are framed and presented in mass media resources for these individuals reinforced negative stereotypes such as “illness,” “mental decline,” “uselessness,” “isolation,” and “poverty.” In this chapter, news media, as one of the sources leading to the circulation of negative messages about individuals of older age, is reviewed; stigmatizing and discriminatory statements and applications upon the appearance of older adults in Turkey in the national press (Sozcu, Hurriyet, and Sabah newspapers) are discussed, and solution have been made.

The Islamic world, especially Indonesia, is increasingly experiencing moral and mental decline so that life is increasingly far from Islamic values. The emergence of extreme ideas and deviating from the truth also added to the atmosphere. It is wasaṭhiyyah, a moderate attitude in various aspects of life that is slowly being echoed by Muslim scholars in various parts of the world and is used as a powerful formula in dealing with the above problems. This research tries to discuss the concept of wasaṭhiyyah according to M. Quraish Shihab in Tafsir Al-Misbah. This research is classified as library research. The researcher used Hans-Georg Gadamer's hermeneutic analysis. With this analysis knife, the researcher found that the Tafsir Al-Misbah was written as a response to M. Quraish Shihab's response to the phenomena and conflicts that occurred at that time. The fusion between Shihab's understanding of wasaṭhiyyah with various horizons; text and society produces a concept of wasaṭhiyyah which is a fair, balanced and tolerant attitude in life, both in world and in the hereafter

Deprescribing, an integral component of a continuum of good prescribing practices, is the process of medication withdrawal or dose reduction to correct or prevent medication-related complications, improve outcomes, and reduce costs. Deprescribing can be a challenge in patients with dementia. In this narrative review we evaluate topics related with deprescribing: what constitutes deprescribing, the importance to deprescribing for patients with dementia, the potential benefits, barriers and enablers of deprescribing and the deprescribing process.Patients with dementia often have multiple comorbidities and have complex medication regimens. Also, they face challenges with medication adherence because of the nature of the disease. Proper medication adherence is important to prevent progression of these comorbidities and decline in overall health. However, as dementia progresses, the risk of taking certain medications may outweigh the benefits. In addition, older people, especially those with physical and mental decline, tend to experience lower efficacy of these medications along with a higher risk of drug adverse effects. As with prescribing or continuing medications, deprescribing brings with it the potential for harm as well as benefit. Other barriers to deprescription include concerns from the patients or the family, worries and doubts from the physician and some issues related to each health system. Many challenges for its execution have been described.Recent studies report benefits and safety in the prescription of patients with dementia, reinforcing the importance of considering prescription in the reevaluation of the patient. Advance care planning is the cornerstone of palliative care, and prescription should be considered in this process.

School students are the future generation who still need guidance; if they are failed to be guided, there will be an upheaval in their inner selves that is delinquency, which may turn into a criminal act, like murder. The backgrounds of problems are formulated as follows: 1). what is the judge's consideration in deciding cases of murder committed by the child? 2) How criminal sanctions are imposed on a child? This research uses normative legal research methods. The results show that the rationale judgment of the judges in imposing punishment to the juvenile was merely based on the action of crime committed by the children. The judges only perform their obligations under the Act that has been established and which they assume the verdict was fair for the society and the family victim. However, the judges failed to assume the negative impact of criminal penalties of 10 (ten) years of imprisonment sentenced to the children. It was clear that the judges tend to apply juridical considerations in decision making process. While they did consider the non-juridical considerations in decision Number 22/Pid.Sus.Anak/2016/PN.Tjk which actually should be based on sociological, psychological, criminological, and philosophical of the juveniles. The researcher suggests that: 1) The judges must consider and reconsider the punishment of 10 years imprisonment which may lead to mental decline in children because they are still relatively; 2) The judges shall reconsider the impact that would occur in children as they are living for 10 years in prison.

Herein, the authors present the case of a 54-year-old male diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) during a screening test. The patient was asked to self-isolate at home and report with any exacerbations of symptoms. He presented later with pneumonia complicated by encephalopathy at days 14 and 15 from initial diagnosis, respectively. MRI of the brain showed bithalamic and gangliocapsular FLAIR signal abnormality with mild right-sided thalamic and periventricular diffusion restriction. A CT venogram was obtained given the distribution of edema and demonstrated deep venous thrombosis involving the bilateral internal cerebral veins and the vein of Galen. CSF workup was negative for encephalitis, as the COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test and bacterial cultures were negative. A complete hypercoagulable workup was negative, and the venous thrombosis was attributed to a hypercoagulable state induced by COVID-19. The mental decline was attributed to bithalamic and gangliocapsular venous infarction secondary to deep venous thrombosis. Unfortunately, the patient’s condition continued to decline, and care was withdrawn.

The final chapter examines Eubie’s revived career on stage and record in the 1970s and 1980s. Furthermore, the chapter discusses key figures who played a role in promoting his career, including historian Robert Kimball; composer/pianist William Bolcom and his wife, singer Joan Morris; recording engineer Carl Seltzer, who partnered with Eubie in forming Eubie Blake Music (Eubie’s record label and publishing company); and lawyer Elliot Hoffman, who championed and protected Blake’s work. The chapter also explores the impact of the mental decline and deaths of Noble Sissle and Andy Razaf on Eubie; Julianne Boyd’s production of a new musical review, Eubie!, which brought his return to Broadway; the show’s development and casting, including bringing Maurice and Gregory Hines to Broadway and their subsequent success; and difficulties dealing with the show’s producer, Ashton Springer. Finally, the chapter relates Eubie’s complex feelings about racism; his work with two biographers, African American journalist Lawrence Carter and jazz writer Al Rose; Rose’s fights with Elliot Hoffman over the writing and publication of his biography; late accolades; and Eubie’s final performances and death.
