In this article, Sarah Jane Palmer discusses the importance of the prevention of skin tears and the role practice nurses can play Skin tears can present a complex and chronic problem for an older patient with fragile skin, and can be very disabling, reducing quality of life dramatically in some cases. The right care is essential from all members of the wider team caring for older patients, in order to identify risk factors for skin tears, as well as formulating a care plan of prevention that relates to these risk factors. Good skin care is essential, as well as patient education, and identifying ongoing issues with the patient's health that present a factor to consider when caring for them, such as mobility issues. Self-care should be encouraged where possible, and the correct use and choice of emollients that are pH balanced is crucial. By preventing skin tears we not only give the patient a far better quality of life, but we also reduce the need for very limited NHS resources.

The chapter “Climate Change and Expectations for the Future of the Planet” discusses one of the more amorphous stressors for Generation Disaster as it’s difficult to measure the psychological impact of a chronic problem like climate change. Many emerging adults recognize the problem and experience varying levels of stress about it, sometimes referred to as “eco-anxiety,” and many are actively engaged in combating its effects. Others consider it a lower priority than the many acute stressors they’re trying to manage, but in general younger generations express far more concern about the problem than their elders. The chapter explores these reactions and the efforts of some emerging adults to cope with a stressor many feel they unfairly inherited.

Background: Although oral health is linked to diabetes, the likelihood of developing acute or chronic diabetic issues as a result of this link remains unknown in Ontario, Canada's most populous province. The impact of self-reported dental health on the chance of developing acute and chronic problems in a group of previously diagnosed diabetics is investigated in this study.  Methodology:  Diabetics (n = 5183) who took part in the Canadian Community Health Survey in 2003 and 2007–08 were studied retrospectively. Until March 31, 2016, self-reported oral health status was connected to health interactions in electronic medical records. After self-reporting oral health status, multinomial regression models were used to assess the likelihood of the first acute or chronic problem. Keywords:  Population health, Acute, Oral health, diabetes complications, periodontal disease, Chronic.

Escola. Sociedade brasileira. From racism in school to a school against the racism: considerations about the Brazilian sceneABSTRACTThis article has by aim to present comprehensions about the way racism exposed and manifest em speeches and individual behaviors in Brazilian society contributes to the denial of humanity and the obliteration of some persons by their ethnic recognition, in considering the essential role of the school in this matter struggling any kind of prejudice and discrimination, mostly producing actions with substantial effectiveness mainly in the Elementary School. To achieve that objective, it was made use as methodology the research of qualitative type and exploratory basis with bibliographic procedure of data, accessing texts about the subject in books or digital media. The result of the discussion shows that it is needed the strengthening of pedagogic practices and actions of conscientization to face this chronic problem still existent in the Brazilian society, in which some individuals have insisted in the denial of the racism and in the reality of some kind of racial democracy. Considering by conclusion that it is through the school, assuming its social goal, the consolidation of educational and strength policies will be realized in the process of building persons opened to the dialogue but not to the conflict who only feeds the abyss of ignorance that it is a strong attribute of a society that has sadly revealed itself, at least some individuals, unable to face its major dilemmas. Keywords: Racism. Elementary School. Brazilian Society. PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to construct a fuzzy logic model that acts as a decision support system to minimize inventory-related costs in the field of industrial maintenance. Achieving a balance between the unavailability and over-storage of spare parts is a problem with potentially significant consequences. That significance increases proportionally with the ever-increasing challenge of reducing overall cost. Either scenario can result in substantial financial losses because of the interruption of production or the costs of tied-up capital, also called the “solidification of capital.” Moreover, there is that additional problem of the expiry of parts on the shelf.Design/methodology/approachThe proposed approach relies on inputs from experts with consideration for incompleteness and inaccuracy. Two levels of decision are considered simultaneously. The first is whether a part should be stored or ordered when needed. The second involves comparing suppliers with their batch-size offers based on user-determined criteria. A mathematical model is developed in parallel for validation.FindingsThe results indicate that the fuzzy logic approach is accurate and satisfactory for this application and that it is advantageous because of its limited sensitivity to the inaccuracy and/or incompleteness of data. In addition, the approach is practical because it requires minimal user effort.Originality/valueTo the best of the authors’ knowledge, the exploitation of fuzzy-logic altogether with limited sensitivity experts' inputs were never combined for the solution of this particular problem; however, this approach's positive impact is expected to be highly significant in solving a chronic problem in industry.

hronic pain occurs in around 20% of European adults [1], affecting 100 million people. In Norway 30% of the population suffer from chronic pain [2]. Reasons for why Norwegians have such a high incidence of chronic pain is not known. Chronic pain has been associated with socio-economic deprivation [3]. However, the World Bank has declared Norway the richest country in the world [4]. All residents are covered by the National Insurance Scheme. Private medical insurance is limited and most hospitals are public. Outpatient care and medicines used in chronic diseases are usually heavily subsidized or free. Is it possible that these support systems and the provision of sick pay paradoxically reduce motivation in individuals to increase levels of activity, and reduce the use of medication, thereby delaying a return to work?
