This paper examines and analyses conflating relation of nature and motherhood in Kamala Markandaya's Nector in a Sieve by applying ecofeminist perspective. The novel revolves around a central character called Rukmani who struggles hard to survive and sustain her family working in the field. Her misery begins to unfold due to infertility she bears. Her daughter, Ira faces the same problem her mother had faced. It almost ruins Rukmani’s life. She is always obsessed with motherhood, nurturing qualities, and natural surrounding around her. This paper explores why motherhood always bothers Rukmani thereby showing her bonding and belonging to nature. This paper being qualitative in nature applies ecofeminist theories for the textual analysis of the primary. The paper concludes that Rukmani’s struggles in reproduction and her strong will to be in land community asserts the shared predicament of nature and motherhood where she is more obsessed with her biological role of mother.

The peasant society had special autonomy from the Middle Ages. The local communities elected their own leaders, coordinated the common agricultural works of the land community, they judged on their own. Some characteristic attributes of these early autonomy survived the historical, political and social changes and remained dominant in the long run. In my study I present the genesis of the Hungarian villages and communities, the different components and layers of the traditional self-government. These questions are inseparable from the development of serfdom and its current situation. I point to the dichotomy inside of the communities, which stemmed from the property difference of the peasant society and from the conflicts of the individual and collective interests, which ones remained dominant till the end of 20. century.

Abstract: This paper focuses on the way tribal communities conceptualised the importance of land, and the different type of landholding pattern system that has affected this agricultural community. There are various intricacies involved in defining the ownership of land: It includes who should own the land and to whom the land should be given out in the form of leasing out for a cultivation purpose? For example, the so called “clan land” should be confined to the clan not outside. This paper, therefore, is an attempt to look at various customs and rituals which have an influence upon the various kinds of landholding ownership system and to make a specific case study of Tangkhul Nagas, situated in the Ukhrul district of Manipur, Northeast India. Keywords: Agricultural community, private land, clan land, community land, modernity, Christianity
