The mountain of Omberg rises high above the plain. It has functioned as a hub in the landscape, and many oral traditions have been woven around it. The mountain was not inhabited by man, but by supernatural creatures. In its interior, Rödgavel, the lord of the mountain, lived together with his people. H is female counterpart, Omma, who was the mist personified, was associated with the remains on top of the mountain. That a mountain has a female/male dimension is very unusual. Omberg can be interpreted as a gateway into the landscape where the supernatural and human worlds met.The article aims to make landscape visual by means of folklore traditions.

This dissertation examines the contradictory status of immaturity in our culture. While immaturity’s otherness to heteronormative adulthood is a source of fear and anxiety, this otherness is also what makes it desirable–that is, immaturity represents an escape from the pressures and standards of adulthood, signifying an oppositional subjectivity reminiscent of youthful rebellion. Indeed, the oppositional nature of immaturity is ultimately what gives it power as a source of political agency. Rather than seeing immaturity as something to be ashamed of, or as something to be avoided or defeated, this dissertation, following Judith/Jack Halberstam, views immaturity as a powerful form of resistance as well as a queer “way of being.” In fact, these two latter elements–resistance and queerness–go hand-in-hand; queerness within this project is primarily understood as an uncompromising “resistance to regimes of the normal,” specifically those pertaining to maturity and success. Beginning with a focus on male immaturity, I establish the fear/desire dynamic characterizing the immature male through close readings of the 1950s male-centered melodrama, combined with an historically-oriented analysis of postwar American culture. Next, I examine how comedy and dramedy films about childish men from the 1980s to the present day are also structured by this contradictory dynamic, as they both resist and reinforce heteronormative adulthood. My textual analysis of these films are grounded in theories of queer temporality. Finally, I focus on the female counterpart to the immature male, examining various constructions of female immaturity in recent cinema. Here, I utilize a broader range of queer temporal theories to demonstrate the political potential of immature womanhood, where “immature” gains agency through its queer and feminist resistance to the tyranny of heteronormative adulthood. While this dissertation ultimately seeks to demonstrate how immaturity functions as a site of resistance to (hetero)normativity, it also acknowledges how it can (specifically in the context of male homosociality), reinforce and reproduce oppressive structures, further underlining immaturity’s incongruous status.

This study focused on determining the association of IQ and sex to academic performance, emotional state, social adaptability, and work attitude of the students taking education in NEUST-Gabaldon Campus. Questionnaires are administered to find out the association of IQ and sex to academic performance, emotional state, social adaptability, and work attitude. A descriptive – correlational design was employed in this study. The study showed that there is a significant association of sex to academic performance, emotional state, social adaptability and work attitude. It implied that sex can be use as a predictor of academic performance, emotional state, social adaptability and work attitude. Data also implied that in this population the male group are more academically equipped than the female counterpart. Data also showed that the female group are more emotional than the male counterpart. Furthermore, the male group are more socially active and work directed. There is a correlation of IQ to academic performance, emotional state, social adaptability and work attitude. It implies that IQ is a predictor of academic performance, emotional state, social adaptability and work attitude, but there is no significant association between sex and IQ. Tubulosquamous polyp (TSP) of the vagina is a rare and benign lesion, best considered along the spectrum of lesions derived from Skene’s glands, the female counterpart of male prostatic glands. It is likely underdiagnosed and represents a challenging diagnosis if one is unfamiliar with this entity. We present an illustrative case of TSP occurring as an upper vaginal wall nodule of a 75-year-old woman, with characteristic morphology and broad immunophenotype. It should be suspected in postmenopausal women with a polyp that demonstrates biphasic squamous and glandular components, which show a prostatic immunophenotype.

The obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal agenesis (OHVIRA) syndrome, a rare Mullerian duct anomaly, is a triad of uterine anomalies with ipsilateral renal agenesis and obstructed hemivagina. The aetiopathogenesis of this developmental anomaly is debatable, with several theories being postulated to explain its occurrence. We report two cases of this rare syndrome which were detected on imaging done for unrelated reasons. Case 1 is a 24-year-old woman who presented with primary infertility. After an incidental detection of the syndrome and ruling out a male factor, she has been planned for excision of the vaginal septum. Case 2 is a 47-year-old woman with OHVIRA detected during the evaluation of urolithiasis and is asymptomatic for the syndrome. The OHVIRA syndrome can be asymptomatic or may present as haematocolpos, pelvic pain and infertility which requires surgical intervention, after which successful pregnancies have been reported.

This study is an investigation of the theme of misogyny as represented by the female characters in the select plays of Vijay Tendulkar. The study argues that the Indian cultural context leaves space for man to be superior and woman to be inferior. The term misogyny denotes hatred, dislike, or mistrust of women, manifested in various forms such as physical intimidation and abuse, sexual harassment and rape, social shunning and ostracism, etc. In most of the plays of Vijay Tendulkar women stand to be the objects of subjugation in the hands of their male counterparts with whom they happen to connect with in the hope of leading their normal life. Tendulkar’s plays display a wide range of complex behaviours those constitute different forms of violence – physical attacks and verbal abuses. A thorough analysis of the situations and circumstances related to women in Vijay Tendulkar’s plays reveal that the domestic, personal, political and social ambience in which the characters live in contribute them much violence physically, sexually, psychologically and verbally. As Tendulkar’s plays stand for the middle class society, the man in his plays quite often is brutal towards his female counterpart with his deep rooted ideologies. The paper’s finding speaks on how the woman characters evolve to be strong individuals amidst their adverse ambience.

This study investigated gender issues in achievement and retention among secondary school students taught thermal energy using metacognitive scaffolding teaching strategy in Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Nigeria. Four research questions were asked, while four null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Quasi experimental research design involving non-randomized control pretest-posttest design was utilized. The study population consisted of 2699 Senior Secondary II (SSII) physics students from 54 public SSII physics students in FCT, Abuja. Multistage random sampling technique was used to select two schools for the study. From the two schools, two intact SSII classes were selected consisting of 75 SSII physics students. The instrument used for data collection consists of Thermal Energy Achievement Test (TEAT). The data collected from the instrument were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). The research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation while the null hypotheses were tested using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). Findings from the analyzed data showed that physics students taught using metacognitive scaffolding teaching strategy performed better in their achievement scores than those taught using conventional lecture method; Male physics students did not perform better than their female counterpart when taught using metacognitive scaffolding teaching strategy; Physics students taught using metacognitive scaffolding teaching strategy performed better in their retention scores than their counterparts in the control group; Male physics students did not perform better in their retention scores than their female counterpart when taught using metacognitive scaffolding teaching strategy. Based on these findings, it was recommended among others that physics teachers should be encouraged to teach using metacognitive scaffolding teaching strategy. Government and educational agencies, curriculum planners and developers should encourage the training of physics teachers on metacognitive scaffolding teaching during seminars, workshops and conferences.

Sardinia, an island located to the west of Italy in the Mediterranean Sea, boasts three native horse breeds: Giara, Sarcidano, and Sardinian Anglo-Arab. Here, we have investigated for the first time three loci of the non-recombining region of the Y chromosome (NRY) in 34 stallions from these breeds and performed a phylogenetic analysis of the maternal relationships among 178 previously published mitochondrial control regions. We found that the current NRY diversity of Sardinian horse breeds is linked to three haplotypes (HT), all identified within Sarcidano. Each breed showed a typical HT: HT1 (ancestral) was the most represented in Sarcidano, HT2 (Neapolitan/Oriental wave) in Giara, and HT3 (Thoroughbred wave) in Sardinian Anglo-Arab. The specificity of each haplotype suggests the influence of independent breeding strategies and the effect of genetic drift in each Sardinian population. The female counterpart, extended to 178 horses, showed a low genetic variability and a common maternal origin for Giara and Sarcidano. The higher variability of the Sardinian Anglo-Arab indicates multiple mare lineages in its current population. Further genetic analyses will be crucial to understand the paternal history of male horses, preserve the endangered mares’ and stallions’ lineages, and improve the enhancement of autochthonous genetic resources on this island.

Abstract The main morphological, cytological and physiological characters of ripe pollen are described, compared, analysed and discussed individually, in multiple combinations and in respect to the female counterpart and the biotic and abiotic components of the environment. This is to try to understand the reasons why pollen grains have the same reproductive function, but at dispersal are morphologically and physiologically different in many respects. The considered characters are: one or more types of grain per species; shape and size; number of cells; types of pollen dispersal unit; sporoderm stratification, furrows, colpori and other kinds of apertures; pollen presentation and array; water content percentage; and mature pollen reserves and osmotics. Some of the pollen features are correlated between themselves, some with the female counterpart or male and female competition, and others with the different components of the environment where the species lives, when it flowers and when pollen presentation occurs.
