Abstract. Smartphones capable of receiving Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) signals and location-based mobile applications have been finding new usage areas day by day. The most popular mobile applications have become a part of our life in many ways, especially in spatial data collection, logistics, sports activities, routing, navigation, information exchange, shopping, emergencies and entertainment. The location-based feature has been the characteristic of the apps realized in real-time or near real-time. Within the scope of this study, a mobile application that can be used on smartphones with the Android operating system and is designed to save time and location information during the desired time and sampling interval and send it to the desired e-mail address is presented. The development stages of this location-based mobile application developed using open-source codes and its use on smartphones were shown. The usage areas of the application and a realized test study were explained.

PurposeThe study provides an overview of the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) standard and its potential in helping a company to improve its environmental performance. The work aims to investigate a company's perception towards the implementation of the EMAS environmental management system with the benefits and the critical areas derived from it, the overall assessment of the certification and its possible future developments.Design/methodology/approachThe study develops an empirical analysis of Italian EMAS III certified companies, through the administration of a questionnaire to all those Italian companies that were EMAS certified and that provided a valid e-mail address on the EMAS register. Overall, 231 Italian companies took part in the survey.FindingsThe results confirm the heterogeneous effects of an Environmental Management System depending on the company profile and highlight the positive influence of certification on environmental management. It emerges how the EMAS certification is approached more for internal reasons, and therefore gives more internal benefits to companies that implement it. Moreover, the time from which companies have been certified turns out to be a relevant factor for obtaining environmental and organizational benefits connected with EMAS certification.Originality/valueThe recent decrease in EMAS registrations has not been sufficiently studied, leaving unsolved questions for scholars, practitioners and policy-makers. Previous studies used a negativist perspective, identifying the barriers that led to the non-renewal of the certification. The present study aims to focus on the positive factors, which have led still active companies to renew the certification.

Objectives: To quantify, characterize and analyze e-mail from predatory journals (PJ) received by an academic in dentistry. Materials and methods: E-mails received in 2019 and suspected of being potentially predatory were pre-selected. The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI) checklist was applied to identify the suspected biomedical PJ, including the following criteria: article processing charge (APC), fake impact factor, the journal being listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). We also extracted information on the lack of an impact factor on Journal Citations Reports, non-journal affiliated contact e-mail address, flattering language, article and/or personal citation, unsubscribe link, being listed in the National Library of Medicine (NLM) current catalog and indexed on Medline. Results: A total of 2,812 unsolicited suspected e-mails were received, and 1,837 requested some sort of manuscript; among these, 1,751 met some of the OHRI criteria. Less than half (780/1,837, 42%) referred to some area of dentistry. The median APC was US$399. A false impact factor was mentioned in 11% (201/1,837) of the e-mails, and 27% (504/1,837) corresponded to journals currently listed in the NLM catalog. Journals listed in DOAJ and COPE sent 89 e-mails. Conclusions: The email campaign from PJ was high and recurrent. Researchers should be well informed about PJ’ modus operandi to protect their own reputation as authors and that of science.

The paper analyzes the legal positions of the Court of the European Union, developed when considering disputes arising from cross-border remote B2C (business to consumer) contracts. In particular, the criteria proposed by the Court of the European Union for determining the “orientation” of the professional party’s activity to the country of the consumer’s place of residence are being investigated. Based on the study of the practice of the Court of Justice of the European Union, it is concluded that consumers in the European Union are provided with increased legal protection as an economically weak party. The author summarizes that the Court of the European Union has developed a number of legal positions. In particular, the Court proposed an open list of criteria for determining the “direction” of the professional party’s activities to the country of the consumer’s place of residence. In addition, it was noted that the “direction of the professional party’s activities when concluding remote contracts is evidenced by the website that reads that the professional party implied the implementation of transactions with consumers residing in one or more member States, including the member State of the consumer’s place of residence. However, the mere fact of having access to the website of an intermediary or entrepreneur in the member state in which the consumer resides is not enough. The same applies to the indication of an e-mail address or other contact information, or the use of a language or currency that is usually used in the Member State of the place of establishment of an economic entity, which corresponds to paragraph 24 of the preamble to the Rome I Regulation.

To develop a voice primarily based email system that will facilitate visually impaired individuals to access email in a problem free manner. Together with providing usage of mail services simply and with efficiency, the system also will cut back the psychological feature work that must be unremarkably taken by the visually impaired to recollect and sort characters using the normal Braille keyboards, which are accessible to them. The graphical user interface of this method has been evaluated against the interface of the traditionally accessible mail system. Not only for visually impaired, but also for people who are illiterate might have the benefit of this technique. The foremost crucial facet which will be thought of developing this technique is that the users of this technique does not have any basic information regarding the keyboard shortcuts used or wherever the keys are used for. All functions to be utilized in this technique are supposed to be easy mouse click operations creating the system very user friendly. This application proposes an android application, designed specifically for visually impaired individuals. This application provides a voice primarily based mailing service which provides them to browse and send mail on their own, without any guidance. The users ought to use certain keywords which can perform certain actions for e.g. Read, Send, and Compose Mail, Address Book etc. This EMAIL system is utilized by a visually handicapped person to access mails easily and with efficiency. Therefore reliance of visually impaired on others for his or her own activities associated with mail are often reduced.

Dementia is one of the most common diseases in the world. The number of patients with dementia is increasing rapidly day by day. Patients with dementia are commonly older than 65 years, and they already use additional drugs for other diseases. It becomes a challenge for individuals in this age group to keep track of their drug timings themselves for dementia patients especially. This study aims to design a device that allows the following dosage and usage regularity of the pills for this purpose. There are five different slices for the pills. This device also has five distinct alarm hours to remind to take pills. When the clock hits a scheduled time, an alarm starts to beep, and an LED flashes to warn the patient. The user can take the pill by pressing the green button within two minutes after the alarm. In this case, servo motors connected pill sections to the "shelf" part of the device. By pulling the shelf, the patient can reach the pills. Otherwise, this device sends an e-mail to the preset e-mail address (and a short message to the phone number) of the person who is responsible for the patient.
