Sociolinguistics. Reading-Book

The textbook "Sociolinguistics. Reading-book", intended for students studying in the direction of "Forensic expertise", is being prepared for publication. The book includes fragments from the works of famous domestic and foreign linguists devoted to the main sociolinguistics problems (subject area, conceptual apparatus, social and communicative system, social marking of language units, research methods, language policy, etc.). Each text is accompanied by control questions and tasks. The textbook provides students with additional material for individual work. The book can be useful to teachers in preparation for lectures and seminars, and is also of interest to a wide range of readers.

The ideal republican man: teaching Brazilian things, useful values and their colonizing aspects

In this article, we will analyze the narratives about the natural resources indicated as conducive to cultivation in Brazilian soil present in the reading book Cousas Brasileiras (1896) as instructors of useful knowledge for the ideal republican man between 1890 and 1896. Therefore, we will dialogue from decolonial concepts and, when selecting the speeches, we will carry out the analyzes to highlight the educational purposes of the period that were immersed in liberal ideas, intending to point out the ideal citizen. With this, when developing the study we will present the effort undertaken by the author to form modern values that are directly linked to the formation of the colonizing aspects. Situating within the scope of qualitative research in Education, of documentary type, with procedures for discourse analysis, thus, we will demonstrate how the formation of the values of modernity was inherent to the formation of the colonizing aspects as an initiative of political-ideological affirmation for the development of Brazilian nationality and its economic progress.

Local Wisdom in the Picture Storybook for Elementary School Students in Sukoharjo Regency

In teaching Indonesian language, the unification between language and culture is a really interesting source of study. The objectives of this study is to explore the identity of Gatotkaca character values of local wisdom found in the elementary school students’ reading book in several elementary schools in Sukoharjo Regency. This study was designed with a qualitative descriptive research model with content analysis technique. The data and data sources were taken from an elementary school student's reading book Gatotkaca Satria from Pringgodani. The results revealed that the local wisdom indicators primarily found in the reading book of Gatotkaca Satria Pringgodani including values of patriotism and other values such as discipline, hard work, creativity, sovereignty, democracy, respect for achievement, companionship, peace-loving, love of reading, and care to environment, social security, and responsibility. Gatotkaca principally showed the attitudes that can motivate students to develop patriotic sense.

Using the Internet to Encourage Reading

We analyzed the websites of 125 elementary and high school libraries in Israel for content that promotes reading. We found that the websites promote reading in many ways and to different degrees, and that there is no consensus regarding the websites’ role in promoting reading. The most common content found included: reports on a national project in which students ranked books, links to special websites that encourage reading, lists of new books purchased by the library, library forum on reading, book recommendations by librarians and students, and biographies of authors and poets.

PRAGMATICS FUNCTIONS OF PERLOCUTIONARY ACT IN LEVELED READING BOOK

Perlocutionary act is the result of the effect of an utterance. Perlocutionary act brings the hearer to learn something, persuade, deceive, encourage, irritate, frighten, amuse, get the hearer to do something, inspire, impress, distract, get the hearer to think about, relieve tension, embarrass, attract attention, bored. Perlocutionary act is a speech act spoken by a speaker to influence the interlocutors and can be found in the communication process. One form of communication process can be found in conversations between the characters in story from children’s reading book. Perlocutionary act is uttered with different pragmatic functions according to the context of the speech. The objectives of this journal are to describe the functions of perlocutionary act in levelled reading book.
