The 21st century witnessed the development of the oil extraction industry in Russia due to the intensifica- tion of its production at the existing traditional fields of Western Siberia, the Volga region and other oil-extracting regions, and due discovering new oil and gas provinces. At that time the path to the development of fields in Eastern Siberia was already paved. The large-scale discoveries of a number of fields made here in the 70s-80s of the 20th century are only being developed now. The process of development itself is rather slow in view of a number of reasons. Create a problem of high cost value of oil extraction in the region. One of the major tasks is obtaining the maximum oil recovery factor while reducing the development costs. The carbonate layer lying within the Katangsky suite is low-permeability, and its inventories are categorised as hard to recover. Now, the object is at a stage of trial development,which foregrounds researches on selecting the effective methods of oil extraction.

The Conferences of the Middle European Cooperation in Statistical Physics (MECO) were created as an attempt to establish and maintain an exchange between scientists in the fields of statistical and condensed matter physics from Western and Eastern countries, overcoming the hurdles of the Iron Curtain. Based on personal remembrance and historical resources, the genesis and further development of MECO meetings is described. The annual meetings were interrupted in 1991 by the Yugoslav War but were re-established in 1993 and continue today. Although the fall of the Iron Curtain and the European Research programs changed the situation for the meetings considerably, the ties created by MECO still are useful to help scientific exchange. The history of European (and not only) statistical physics and the history of the MECO are tightly intertwined. It started in a time where an essential breakthrough has been achieved in statistical physics describing the features near phase transitions. In addition to the merging of solid-state physics and field theory concepts, the application of numerical methods (Monte Carlo methods) added a new pillar besides exact solutions and experiments to check theoretical models. In the following, the scientific emphasis (in general) has changed from the traditional fields of the first MECO to complexity and interdisciplinary themes as well.

Before moving to Canada, Vincent and Olga Diniacopoulos acquired a large collection of antiquities. After settling in Montreal, they continued their activity of art dealers and collectors. In 2001, Queen’s Department of Classics and the Art Conservation Program acquired a large number of ancient pieces from the collection, including 627 Greek and Roman coins from different periods, still to be treated and identified. In my research project, I am currently working on cataloguing and identifying all of the coins in the collection. The coins in the collection are the best way for students to gain firsthand knowledge with artifacts from a research perspective. The study of ancient coins is one of the traditional fields of Classical archaeology because of their imagery, frequently complex and intricate in spite of the small space available, their direct connection to figures and events of ancient history and their use for civic and dynastic propaganda. The majority of the coins identified thus far appear to have been minted in Alexandria in Egypt, a country where the Diniacopoulos family lived for a while and acquired a large part of their collection. In my poster, I aim to present the project and to discuss a few coins that have been already identified.

Every era exists within its own paradigm, and the COVID-19 pandemic era is a game changer that requires new perspectives. This requirement also holds true for the field of economics of education. This era of change requires the reevaluation of educational institutions. The economics of education are venturing beyond traditional fields of study regarding the development of digital skills. Topics such as financial administration, budget management, costs, supply and demand of educational services, and the reflections of learning losses on the knowledge economy represent the changing dynamic locus of the economics of education regarding digital skills during the pandemic period. In this chapter, the general impact of the pandemic on educational institutions is portrayed, the importance of digital skills in global competition in the digital economy is discussed, and lastly, the paradigm shifts in economics of education as an important field of educational sciences caused by the COVID-19 pandemic are described and evaluated within the context of the economics of distance education.

Traditional (often synonymous with complementary) medicine can be defined as the knowledge, skill, and practices, based on the theories, beliefs, and experiences indigenous to different cultures, which are used in the maintenance of health and the prevention, diagnosis, improvement, or treatment of illness. These practices are found in almost every country, and demand for them is increasing. For individual patients, when of proven quality, safety, and efficacy, traditional medicine contributes to the goal of ensuring that all people have access to care that they feel they need. For medical science, investigators in traditional fields have discovered new medicines with which to combat important diseases, including the sympathomimetic ephedrine, the antimalarial artemisinin, and arsenic trioxide used in the treatment of promyelocytic leukaemia.

Although project management is often said to have its roots in other traditional fields, such as construction, Morris (2002) asserts that modern project management practices have their origins in the 1950s US aerospace agencies. Much has been written about Information System (IS) / Information Technology (IT) project initiatives in both the public and private sectors. In fact, many information systems frequently fall short of their requirements, and are, more often than not, costlier and arrive later than anticipated, if indeed they are completed at all. For instance, according to a report for the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (2001), failures of major IT investments and key systems development projects have raised concerns for the achievement of service improvement through information technology. Additionally, it has been argued that failures in IT projects are more common than failures in any other aspect of modern business (Nulden, 1996).

Abstract. As a labor-intensive operation, manual harvesting greatly affects cost and therefore profitability in the cabbage industry. A new compact self-propelled cabbage harvester for small, separate fields was designed and field tested. This harvester included a crawler chassis, a picking mechanism, a lifting mechanism, a cutting device, and a leaf separator. Results of preliminary field tests showed that the harvester had good flexibility and maneuverability. Results of field performance tests showed that the harvester could pick cabbages with diameters of 15 to 25 cm, providing a harvesting capacity of 0.21 hm2 h-1 and a harvest loss of 10.2%. Compared with experiments conducted in traditional fields, harvest quality showed an improvement in fields with an experimental cultivation method. The harvest loss was reduced by 5.0%, while the picking rate and accurate cutting rate were improved by 3.0% and 5.4%, respectively.
