The paper presents the results of studying fruits antioxidant properties of several species, previously combined into the genus Sorbus L. (Rosaceae family). Ripe fruits were collected in September 2020 from the plants of Cormus domestica (L.) Spach, Sorbus aucuparia L., Karpatiosorbus latifolia (Lam.) Sennikov & Kurtto and Torminalis glaberrima (Gand.) Sennikov & Kurtto from the collection of the Botanical Garden of the Oles Honchar Dnipro National University. Total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoids content (TFC), ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) were determined both in the fruits peel and pulp. In the fruits of all species, higher values of the determined indicators were found in the fruit peel than in the pulp. Moderate and strong positive correlation was found between FRAP and TPC as well between FRAP and TFC both in peel and pulp of all studied species. At the same time, notable interspecific differences of the phytochemical traits were established, indirectly confirming the ambiguity of the taxonomy of the genus Sorbus L. According to the fruits antioxidant properties and secondary metabolites accumulation, species K. latifolia (broad-leaved whitebeam) and T. glaberrima (wild service-tree) are the most promising for cultivation in arid conditions of the central steppe of Ukraine.

Endophytic bacteria isolated from medicinal plants are recognized valuable sources of novel bioactive compounds with various activities such as antimicrobial, anticancer, and antiviral. In this study, eleven bacterial endophytes were isolated from surface sterilized roots and leave tissues, of medicinal plant Dicoma anomala. The bacterial endophytes were identified by sequencing the 16S rRNA gene, and belong to five genera viz Bacillus, Staphylococcus, Stenotrophomonas, Enterobacter, and Pantoea. The dominant genera were Bacillus with five strains, Staphylococcus with two strains, and Stenotrophomonas with two strains. The crude extracts of seven selected bacterial endophytes indicated antimicrobial activity against five pathogenic strains Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922), Bacillus cereus (ATCC 10876), Staphylococcus aureus (NCTC 6571), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 27853), and Klebsiella oxytoca (ATCC 13182), with significant inhibition concentration ranging from 0.312 mg/ml to 0.625 mg/ml. Finally, based on the data analysis of the crude extracts of the endophytes, we identified bioactive secondary metabolites with reported biological activities such as antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties with biotechnological applications in medicine, agriculture, and other industries. This study reported for the first time bacterial endophytes associated with D. anomala, with antimicrobial activity against bacterial pathogens.

Abstract-The medicinal plants are useful for healing and curing of human diseases. Over 55% of all modern clinical drugs are of natural product origin. The plant, Ocimum tenuiflorum is highly used by the people of whole world specially Indians to cure various disorders because of the presence of phytochemical constituents. Ocimum tenuiflorum plant is known to possess anticancer, antispasmodic, antiviral, insecticide, antiseptic, analgesic, antiinflammatory, antimicrobial, antistress, Immunomodulatory, hypotensive and antioxidant properties. The present study reveals that various secondary metabolites such as glycosides, alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, terpenoids, tannins, saponins, antraquenone , fats and oils and steroids are present in different leaf extract of the plant. Objective: Bauhinia acuminate L (Fabaceae) is a species of flowering shrub native to tropical south eastern Asia. The flowerof B. acuminataare used against various skin diseases,worms, tumours and diabetes. The Indian vaiydas recommended as a remedy to treat severe biliousness.The qualitative and quantitative estimation of phytochemical constituents in various extracts and the antioxidant potential of flower of Bauhinia acuminata were evaluated.Methods: All the analysis was done based on standard protocols.Results: The phytochemical screening reveals the presence of various primary and secondary metabolites like sugar, carbohydrate, amino acid, fat, quinone, steroids, phenol, saponin, alkaloids, and acid content. In quantitative analysis the important secondary metabolites such as alkaloids and phenolic compounds were estimated in all the extracts.The ethanol and chloroformextract produced significant antioxidant properties in a dose-dependent manner. DPPH free radical scavenging assay of ethanol and chloroform extracts of flower exhibited IC 50 values of 24.44±1.201μg/ml and 196.68±0.456μg/ml respectively. At 1000 μg/ml concentration both extracts shows maximum radical scavenging activity (98.97% and 85.67 %).Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that this plant is medicinal with prominent antioxidant property.
