AbstractPresentations are the most successful and popular form of communication in business. However, the formats of presentations in business have not changed much for past few decades. The emergent and disruptive technologies such as Augmented Reality and Animated Infographics have provided potential for enhancing communications in businesses to increase engagement and therefore increasing the effectiveness of such communications. This paper focuses on the impact and effectiveness of using interactive AR in business presentations. The paper presents the design and development of our AR presentation application. Followed by a presentation of an empirical study into the usability and effectiveness of using Augmented Reality and Animated Infographics in business presentation and compares the results against the traditional slideware slides presentation approach. The results of the experiment with 94 participants are presented and analysed. The results demonstrate that the AR approach out performs the traditional methods in terms of usability, audience engagement and effectiveness of communication.

From the total time of making traditional Batik, the batik stage is the most time consuming because there are a lot of mistakes due to lack of carefulness when making batik motifs on cloth. To overcome the problem of making Batik motifs, this research utilizes the strengths and capabilities of Marker-Based Augmented Reality technology. The development of Marker-Based Augmented Reality applications is done by replacing digital objects with Batik motif images and markers attached to the fabric. Development of Marker-Based Augmented Reality applications using vertex markers to reproduce Batik motif objects in order to overcome the limitations of the reach of hands when making Batik motifs on fabric Finally, by using Marker-Based Augmented Reality applications batik makers do not need to draw Batik motifs in pencil on fabric because of Batik motifs directly displayed on the fabric surface by the application, so that it is expected to reduce the process time of making Batik motifs compared to making Batik motifs using traditional methods.

Image-guided therapies have been on the rise in recent years as they can achieve higher accuracy and are less invasive than traditional methods. By combining augmented reality technology with image-guided therapy, more organs, and tissues can be observed by surgeons to improve surgical accuracy. In this review, 233 publications (dated from 2015 to 2020) on the design and application of augmented reality-based systems for image-guided therapy, including both research prototypes and commercial products, were considered for review. Based on their functions and applications. Sixteen studies were selected. The engineering specifications and applications were analyzed and summarized for each study. Finally, future directions and existing challenges in the field were summarized and discussed.

Changes in science and technology have affected the structure of societies and have led to rapid change in human profile. In order to adapt to the changing human profile, reforms in advertising as well as scientific and technological enrichment in advertisement environments have become necessary. This study aims to investigate the impact of advertisement materials developed with augmented reality (AR) technology on car specification presentation and attitudes towards the advertisement, and to determine their attitudes towards AR applications. In this study, AR application was developed using haar-like features method for marker detector. A quasi-experimental design was used in which intact showroom at two different location, consisting of a total of one hundred customers, were randomly assigned to either the experimental or control group. The experimental group researched their selected car using AR technology, while the control group researched their selected car using traditional methods and the help of salesman. Customers in the experimental group were found to have higher understanding and slightly faster to learn about the car than those in the control group. In addition, the results revealed that the customers were pleased and wanted to continue using AR applications in the future. They also showed no signs of anxiety when using AR applications. In addition, it was found that advertisement achievements and attitudes of the customers in the experimental group showed a positive, significant and intermediate correlation.

Purpose. This work presents the protocol carried out in the development and validation of an augmented reality system which was installed in an operating theatre to help surgeons with trocar placement during laparoscopic surgery. The purpose of this validation is to demonstrate the improvements that this system can provide to the field of medicine, particularly surgery.Method. Two experiments that were noninvasive for both the patient and the surgeon were designed. In one of these experiments the augmented reality system was used, the other one was the control experiment, and the system was not used. The type of operation selected for all cases was a cholecystectomy due to the low degree of complexity and complications before, during, and after the surgery. The technique used in the placement of trocars was the French technique, but the results can be extrapolated to any other technique and operation. Results and Conclusion. Four clinicians and ninety-six measurements obtained of twenty-four patients (randomly assigned in each experiment) were involved in these experiments. The final results show an improvement in accuracy and variability of 33% and 63%, respectively, in comparison to traditional methods, demonstrating that the use of an augmented reality system offers advantages for trocar placement in laparoscopic surgery.

The use of latent curve models (LCMs) has increased almost exponentially during the last decade. Oftentimes, researchers regard LCM as a “new” method to analyze change with little attention paid to the fact that the technique was originally introduced as an “alternative to standard repeated measures ANOVA and first-order auto-regressive methods” (Meredith & Tisak, 1990, p. 107). In the first part of the paper, this close relationship is reviewed, and it is demonstrated how “traditional” methods, such as the repeated measures ANOVA, and MANOVA, can be formulated as LCMs. Given that latent curve modeling is essentially a large-sample technique, compared to “traditional” finite-sample approaches, the second part of the paper addresses the question to what degree the more flexible LCMs can actually replace some of the older tests by means of a Monte-Carlo simulation. In addition, a structural equation modeling alternative to Mauchly’s (1940) test of sphericity is explored. Although “traditional” methods may be expressed as special cases of more general LCMs, we found the equivalence holds only asymptotically. For practical purposes, however, no approach always outperformed the other alternatives in terms of power and type I error, so the best method to be used depends on the situation. We provide detailed recommendations of when to use which method.
