AbstractOver the last few decades, the development of geospatial technologies has converged with a variety of formal information technology disciplines (Zwartjes in Eur J Geogr 9(4):138–151, 2018; Jackson and Schell in Directions Magazine, 2009). The rapidly growing location-based services seamlessly integrate data and technologies from Earth observation (EO), Geographic Information System (GIS), Geographic Position System (GPS), and wireless and mobile communications (Huang et al. in J Location Based Servi 12(2):63–93, 2018).

AbstractThe innovative transformation in geospatial information technology (GIT) and Earth observation (EO) data provides a significant opportunity to study the Earth’s environment and enables an advanced understanding of natural and anthropogenic impacts on ecosystems at the local, regional, and global levels (Thapa et al. in Carbon Balance Manag 10(23):1–13, 2015; Flores et al. in SAR handbook: comprehensive methodologies for forest monitoring and biomass estimation. NASA Publication, 2019; Leibrand et al. in Front Environ Sci 7:123, 2019; Chap. 10.1007/978-3-030-73569-2_1). The major advantages of these technologies can be briefly categorized into five broad areas: multidisciplinary; innovative and emerging; providing platforms for analysis, modelling, and visualization; capability to support decision-making; and impact on policies.

The centering processes of geographic information system (GIS) development at the United States Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) was an extension of past cartographic encounters with American Indians through the central control of geospatial technologies, uneven development of geographic information resources, and extension of technically dependent clientele. Cartographic encounters included the historical exchanges of geographic information between indigenous people and non-Indians in North America. Scientists and technicians accumulated geographic information at the center of calculation where scientific maps, models, and simulations emerged. A study of GIS development at the United States Bureau of Indian Affairs will demonstrate some centering processes.

This paper puts forward the composition of geospatial information and its definition. The author designed and implemented the attendance management system based on Micro-cellular and the geographic information system (GIS) technology. The function of the geographic information system (GIS) was achieved by transforming Japan Geographical Survey Institute's Digital Map 2,500 base plate data into G-XML data. The function of location information system was accomplished according to micro-cellular mobile terminal-in the GIS's Real-time positioning and tracks. At last, the attendance management system based on micro-cellular and GIS technology was implemented by comparing the work schedule with the mobile tracks of its related mobile handheld terminals.

The development of information technology that exists today is very rapid, making us to keep abreast of the development of these technologies. Technology is able to present all information quickly and instantly, leaving old patterns such as gathering information manually which may require more time. Information technology today is very effective and efficient as indicated by the speed of processing time and the accuracy of the information needed. One of them is the information about tourist attractions, which is currently increasingly in demand by people who want to vacation with friends, relatives and family. However, the lack of information about the location of attractions that want to be visited, especially for potential tourists from outside the area of Semarang, make the author interested in design and creating the Semarang City Geographic Tourism Information System Based on Android Mobile to facilitate the search for the nearest route to the desired tourist attraction. The method used is using the Geographic Information System based on the data from the Semarang City Culture and Tourism Service. The Semarang City Tourism Geographic Information System Based on Android Mobile is a solution to problem solving as a medium to obtain information and tourism locations in the Semarang, which is applied in Android Smartphone devices, especially for the people from outside the city of Semarang.

At the moment, level of development of GIS technologies is such that it is possible to implement a model of emergence and development of emergencies using a single geographic information system, while having ability to use many functions embedded in the system, and accessing spatial data through an API interface. This paper gives an example of creating a three-dimensional model of an accident using QGIS tools, illustrating the capabilities of this GIS for solving emergency control tasks.

A public complaint is a reciprocal of the population against the government to convey opinions or problems encountered in certain areas. The complaint process using a suggestion box or counter complaint is less effective and efficient so that the complaint handling process is slow. The geographic information system of public complaints is an information system built as an intermediary for the public to make complaints against the government. This public complaint geographic information system is built by utilizing location-based services. Geographic information systems of public complaints that have been built require a test to ensure all functions contained on the system can run properly. This study discusses the testing of the geographic information system of public complaints that have been built by blackbox testing and test by involving respondents from the general public. The results of testing system usage by the user based on aspect of system interface display and conformity aspects of processes and features involving respondents from the general public. Tests conducted to get the average results of respondents gave very good value 28%, good 59.8, enough 10.2% and less by 2%. Comparison of systems conducted on two similar systems taken through a literature study showed that a mobile web-based public complaint geographic information system (Public Complaint) has more features in tracking the location of complaints.

Geospatial information systems (GIS) are an important sector of the information industry, as well as an essential component of the information technology infrastructure (Lo & Yeung, 2002). They are a type of computerized information system specifically designed and used to solve geospatial problems, those which are related to locations on the surface of the earth (Longley, Goodchild, Maguire, & Rhind, 2001). The extent of usefulness of GIS has been proven across many diverse applications in many disciplines. They have long been used in traditional application settings, such as land management and natural resources, and have recently become an important element in emerging applications, for example, in ubiquitous mobile computing environments.
