AbstractRubber hoses are a category of rubber products that are widely and intensively employed in construction sites for concrete conveying. There has been lack of study to investigate the life cycle environmental and economic impacts of the rubber hoses as an industrial product. In this study, we analyze four types of rubber hoses with the inner layer made of different rubber composites to resist abrasion, i.e., Baseline, S-I, S-II and S-III. Tests of the wear resistance are carried out in the laboratory and S-III shows high abrasion resisting performance with the concrete conveying volume up to 20,000 m3 during the service life. Life cycle assessment (LCA) and life cycle costing (LCC) models are established for evaluating the four types of rubber hoses. A target function is developed to integrate LCA and LCC by converting the LCA results to the environmental costs. It is found that S-III can save 13% total cost comparing to Baseline. The production stage is the largest contributor to the environmental single score, while the use stage is the largest contributor to the life cycle cost. Sensitivity analyses are conducted and the results of this study are validated with the previous studies. The integrated method of LCA and LCC developed in this study paves a way for the eco-design of industrial rubber hoses and is potentially applicable to other rubber products.

The problem of reliable function computation is extended by imposing privacy, secrecy, and storage constraints on a remote source whose noisy measurements are observed by multiple parties. The main additions to the classic function computation problem include (1) privacy leakage to an eavesdropper is measured with respect to the remote source rather than the transmitting terminals’ observed sequences; (2) the information leakage to a fusion center with respect to the remote source is considered a new privacy leakage metric; (3) the function computed is allowed to be a distorted version of the target function, which allows the storage rate to be reduced compared to a reliable function computation scenario, in addition to reducing secrecy and privacy leakages; (4) two transmitting node observations are used to compute a function. Inner and outer bounds on the rate regions are derived for lossless and lossy single-function computation with two transmitting nodes, which recover previous results in the literature. For special cases, including invertible and partially invertible functions, and degraded measurement channels, exact lossless and lossy rate regions are characterized, and one exact region is evaluated as an example scenario.

Abstract The purpose of the work is to develop a simulation model that could be used as the basis for a practical methodology for forming a ‘green’ program for the development of mining industry. For this purpose, the Stackelberg model and the apparatus of two-level mathematical programming are used and thus take into account the peculiarities of the hierarchy of interaction between the state and the private investor in the mineral resource sector. The obtained data make it possible to determine the quantitative parameters of expenditures of public financial resources, at which the target function of the state reaches its maximum. It is concluded that the strategy of choosing higher operating costs and, as a result, lower postproject environmental losses is preferable for both the state and the investor.

Purpose. The optimum length choice of the headband insert for a dust filter respirator. Design/methodology/approach. The method of experimental planning has been applied to determine the interpolation (regression) and optimisation dependencies of the filter respirator process. The dominant variables for the respirator were selected based on experimental studies.  Input controlled variables for mathematical model are length of tape insertion and headband tension force, output parameter is volume of contaminated air suction under face mask. A regression power relationship between the variables has been established. The recall function was approximated by a second-order non-linear mathematical model. The method of least squares was applied in determining the coefficients at the control variables. Regression dependencies and additional constraints on protective and ergonomic requirements have been used in the optimisation calculations. Conclusions. The solution of the set tasks were the following results: the nonlinear mathematical model more adequately characterizes the respirator use process compared to the linear model of the first order. Relative error between experimental and calculated values of air intake does not exceed 0.6 %. The optimization task is formulated with the regression model. The target function and constraints have been defined with safety and ergonomic requirements. The target function does not have an extremum within the defined constraints. The optimum insertion length was determined graphically and was 2–3.2 cm, the headband tension force does not exceed 5 H With this parameter. Research limitations/consequences. The proposed method is universal in determining the optimum parameters for all types of personal protective equipment. Practical implications: the choice of respirator design parameters can be made using experimentation-surface fitting. Originality/value. The proposed method makes it possible to decline heuristic design methods and establish analytical relationships between the requirements and parameters of individual elements of personal protective equipment.

The main technical task of agricultural production in the field of seed production is to obtain conditional seeds that meet national and international quality standards. One of the important stages of growing agricultural seeds is their post-harvest processing, which includes the drying process, which is the main and one of the most effective methods for storing and processing agricultural raw materials. It is possible to increase the efficiency of the technology of post-harvest treatment of pumpkin seeds by determining the possibilities of using a systematic approach to solving the problems of implementing measures and means, identifying the mechanism of functioning and developing its effectiveness. Modeling and systems analysis are the main research methods and agricultural technology systems. Systems analysis is widely used in the study of various branches of agricultural production. The article discusses the main features of the components of the technology of post-harvest treatment of pumpkin seeds, forming a certain hierarchical system: technology - technological process - technological operation. The input factors of the pumpkin seed drying system will be such indicators as the supply of the input material, its moisture content, the parameters of the drying agent, and the quality indicators of the input material. A structural diagram of pumpkin seed production has been developed and the target function of the system in matrix form and an algorithm for the implementation of the target function of the pumpkin seed production system have been selected. The matrix of the objective function and the algorithm for its implementation can be used to analyze the pumpkin seed production system as a whole at the level of an individual enterprise, and by individual elements to find bottlenecks in this technology.

The article presents data on 11 biological and economical traits of 100 mother vines of the ‘Kokur Belyi’ for the period of 2019-2021. The research was carried out at the production plot of the ‘Kokur Belyi’ grape variety (No. 361, AZOS-1 pruning, planting scheme 3 × 1.25) in the Alushta branch of FSUE PJSC Massandra. According to the average of indicators for three years of research using method of multicriteria optimization, we selected 25 protoclones of the ‘Kokur Belyi’ variety (protoclones of the first vegetative voltine) with the lowest function indicators in the range from φ = 3.330 to φ = 6.103. The choice of the best bush was determined from the conditions of the closest approximation to the ideal, i.e. interval [φ(x); x]→min. Therefore, the smaller the value of the protoclone function φ(x), the better the bush. Target function values for 100 bushes were compared, after that protoclones were separated by the lowest indicators, determining the best bushes. The use of multicriteria optimization method provides an objective approach to the selection of protoclones, excluding the units of measurement of the studied characteristics, converting them into a nondimensional form. For further research, from the selected 25 bushes of grapes of the ‘Kokur Belyi’ variety, vines will be gathered for table grafting, followed by the establishment of a clone-testing plot of the first vegetative voltine of the ‘Kokur Belyi’ variety.

Abstract Geosteering is an important area and its quality determines the efficiency of formation drilling by horizontal wells, which directly affects the project NPV. This paper presents the automated geosteering optimization platform which is based on live well data. The platform implements online corrections of the geological model and forecasts well performance from the target reservoir. The system prepares recommendations of the best reservoir production interval and the direction for horizontal well placements based on reservoir performance analytics. This paper describes the stages of developing a comprehensive system using machine-learning methods, which allows multivariate calculations to refine and predict the geological model. Based on the calculations, a search for the optimal location of a horizontal well to maximize production is carried out. The approach realized in the work takes into account many factors (some specific features of geological structure, history of field development, wells interference, etc.) and can offer optimum horizontal well placement options without performing full-scale or sector hydrodynamic simulation. Machine learning methods (based on decision trees and neural networks) and target function optimization methods are used for geological model refinement and forecasting as well as for selection of optimum interval of well placement. As the result of researches we have developed the complex system including modules of data verification and preprocessing, automatic inter-well correlation, optimization and target interval selection. The system was tested while drilling hydrocarbons in the Western Siberian fields, where the developed approach showed efficiency.
