Three new 3D metal-organic porous frameworks based on Co(II) and 2,2′-bithiophen-5,5′-dicarboxylate (btdc2−) [Co3(btdc)3(bpy)2]·4DMF, 1; [Co3(btdc)3(pz)(dmf)2]·4DMF·1.5H2O, 2; [Co3(btdc)3(dmf)4]∙2DMF∙2H2O, 3 (bpy = 2,2′-bipyridyl, pz = pyrazine, dmf = N,N-dimethylformamide) were synthesized and structurally characterized. All compounds share the same trinuclear carboxylate building units {Co3(RCOO)6}, connected either by btdc2– ligands (1, 3) or by both btdc2– and pz bridging ligands (2). The permanent porosity of 1 was confirmed by N2, O2, CO, CO2, CH4 adsorption measurements at various temperatures (77 K, 273 K, 298 K), resulted in BET surface area 667 m2⋅g−1 and promising gas separation performance with selectivity factors up to 35.7 for CO2/N2, 45.4 for CO2/O2, 20.8 for CO2/CO, and 4.8 for CO2/CH4. The molar magnetic susceptibilities χp(T) were measured for 1 and 2 in the temperature range 1.77–330 K at magnetic fields up to 10 kOe. The room-temperature values of the effective magnetic moments for compounds 1 and 2 are μeff (300 K) ≈ 4.93 μB. The obtained results confirm the mainly paramagnetic nature of both compounds with some antiferromagnetic interactions at low-temperatures T < 20 K in 2 between the Co(II) cations separated by short pz linkers. Similar conclusions were also derived from the field-depending magnetization data of 1 and 2.

A porous molecular crystal (PMC) assembled by close-packing of macrocyclic cyclotetrabenzoin acetate is an efficient adsorbent for selective CO2 capture. The 7.1´7.1 Å square pore of PMC and its ester C=O group play important roles in improving its affinity for CO2 molecules. Thermodynamically, the benzene walls of macrocycle strongly promote CO2 adsorption via [p···p] interactions at low pressure. In addition, the polar carbonyl groups pointing inward the square channels reduce the size of aperture to a 5.0´5.0 Å square, which offers kinetic selectivity for CO2 capture. The PMC features water tolerance and high structural stability under vacuum and various gas adsorption conditions, which are rare among intrinsically porous organic molecules. In mixed-gas breakthrough experiments, it exhibits efficient CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4 separations under kinetic flow conditions. Most importantly, the moderate adsorbate–adsorbent interaction allows the PMC to be readily regenerated, and therefore applied to pressure swing adsorption (PSA) processes. The eluted N2 and CH4 are obtained with over 99.9% and 99.8% purity, respectively, and the separation performance is stable for 30 cycles. Coupled with its easy synthesis, these properties make cyclotetrabenzoin acetate a promising adsorbent for CO2 separations from flue and natural gases.

In this research, we studied the chlorinated gas adsorption process using activated carbon. Two types of granular activated carbon were employed: GAC800 and GAC1200; with specific surface areas of 800 m2/g and 1200 m2/g, respectively. In order to optimize the polyvinyl chloride (PVC) dehydrochlorination conditions, three parameters were studied: (i) the type of precursor—PVC and PVC mixed with charcoal (1:1 by weight)—(ii) the temperature—300 and 400 °C—and (iii) the retention time—30, 120, and 240 min. Mohr’s method and acid-base titration were used to estimate the captured amount of chlorinated gas. The results indicated that the PVC dehydrochlorination occurred completely about 69–73 wt.% at 400 °C for 240 min. The amount of chloride ion was detected around 1–2 mmol/LNaOH. The estimated HCl adsorption capacity for the GAC800 and GAC1200 samples potentially absorbed 0.27 mgHCl/gGAC and 0.21 mgHCl/gGAC, respectively. In addition, the efficiency for GAC800 and GAC1200 was reported to 37.95% and 28.92%, respectively.

AbstractThe adsorption/desorption characteristics, modeling and properties of anthocyanins from extruded red cabbage juice by macroporous resins were investigated. The static adsorption and desorption capacities of red cabbage anthocyanins on five macroporous resins were measured and compared. The X-5 resin showed the best capacities and was selected for the adsorption kinetics, isotherms and elution studies. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir isotherm model were used to describe the adsorption process and mechanism. Dynamic adsorption and desorption tests were performed on a fixed-bed column, and the loading and eluent conditions were optimized. The purity of anthocyanins in freeze-dried purified powder by the resin adsorption process is 21.3 ± 0.9 wt % and shows better stability in the air than the unpurified one. Finally, the antioxidant activity and color properties including color density, color intensity, color tonality and degradation index of the purified powders were measured.
