Fossil pollen, conifer stomata, and charcoal records for the last 10,000 years were studied from three small hollow sites (Larix Hollow, Mosquito Hollow, and Olga Hollow) located at the modern western range limit of Siberian larch ( Larix sibirica) in northwestern Russia to investigate the role of forest fires in stand-scale dynamics of taiga vegetation. Wavelet coherence analysis was utilized to reveal the significance of fire on the vegetation composition at different timescales by assessing the phase and strength of the relationship between forest fires and most common boreal tree taxa in a time–frequency window. Pollen and stomata data show that all of the modern-day common tree taxa, including Norway spruce ( Picea abies) and Siberian larch, have been present in the study region since the early Holocene. The absence of charcoal layers at Mosquito Hollow suggests that this site has acted as a fire-free refugium with continuous dominance of spruce throughout the Holocene. Meanwhile, the Larix Hollow record indicates frequent local fire events and as a consequence, a more variable tree species composition. The wavelet coherence results show that the impact of forest fires on vegetation varies from short-term (<200-year periods) changes in individual tree taxa to long-term (400–800 years) changes in forest composition, such as the expansion of spruce population after local high-intensity fires around 7500–7000 cal. yr BP and the increase in abundance of birch and alder during periods of high fire frequency. Our results suggest that Holocene fire histories can be markedly different within a small geographical area, demonstrating the importance of site-specific factors in the local fire regime in the unmanaged taiga forest.

The most frequent transboundary haze in the world takes place in Southeast Asia. It is usually caused by land-use changes, open burning, peat combustion, wildfires, and other farming activities. Serious haze occurred in 1983, 1997, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2015 and 2016, originating from large-scale forest fires in western Sumatra and southern Kalimantan, Indonesia. It caused adverse effects to locals as well as neighbouring countries, affecting their health, economy, agriculture, and biodiversity. Among the serious effects of haze are increased respiratory-related mortality due to toxic airborne particles, jet crashs and ship collisions due to restricted visibility, reduction of crop growth rate due to limited solar radiation, and extinction of endangered primates due to habitat loss. Neighbouring countries like Malaysia and Singapore sometimes have to close schools to prevent people from being exposed to air pollution, and its consequent respiratory ailments.

There were found out the connections of the activity of the Sun and smoke of forest fires with the incidence of various forms of benign and malignant neoplasms in the population of young children 0-4 years old, in Khabarovsk Region, Russia. Thus, it was determined that so-called “sporadic” fluctuations in the incidence of neoplasms in the child population are not random. They are caused by long multi-year cycles of changes in the complex of environmental factors. The authors identified this phenomenon as “Alternative oncogenesis”, meaning by it the predominant occurrence of various forms of neoplasms in a certain period of time due to a change in the parameters of the complex of environmental factors. A proposed hypothesis is: ecologically linked oxidative stress as a cause of the epigenomic modulation leading to an imbalance between semaphorins and integrins that brings to oncogenesis.

Continuous monitoring of open space is of the utmost importance for the protection of forests against fire. Collected data in real time provide fast intervention of relevant services to extinguish the fire. Timely information about the appearance of fire reduce the number of areas affected by this fire and thereby minimizes the costs of fire extinguishing and the damage caused in the woods. The current way of detecting fire in an open area in Serbia is not in real time, and due to this, it is necessary to implement modern technology of collecting data related to early detection of fires. This paper presents an integral project of forest-fire protection on the territory of Serbia in order to provide the reference for the application of terrestrial automated system for early detection and prediction of forest fires. An automated system could be comprised of infrared and high-resolution TV camera surveillance, covering a large part of the forest area and forest land. En este artículo se estudia el papel del teatro como herramienta de sensibilización y prevención de incendios forestales. Para ello, se analiza el movimiento artístico denominado eco-teatro y se relaciona con la campaña de teatro realizada por el Ministerio de Agricultura, Alimentación y Medio Ambiente (MAGRAMA) durante los años 2009, 2010 y 2011. La campaña se realizó en 161 localidades donde el riesgo de incendios forestales era elevado. Los resultados del análisis y de las encuestas recogidas muestran que, al menos a corto plazo, el público aumentó sus conocimientos acerca de esta problemática gracias a la representación teatral a la que asistió y, por tanto, se postula la utilidad del teatro como herramienta de concienciación y sensibilización medioambiental.   Abstract   This essay studies the role of theatre as a tool for awareness and forest fire prevention. To achieve this goal, the artistic movement called eco-theater has been analyzed and related to a theatre campaign conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (MAGRAMA) during the years 2009, 2010 and 2011 in Spain. The campaign took a theatrical production to 161 small towns in areas where the risk of forest fires was particularly high. The results of the analysis and surveys collected show that, at least for a short term period, the audience increased their knowledge regarding this environmental problem thanks to the theatrical representation. The article concludes that eco-theater can be a very useful tool in increasing environmental awareness.

The impact of climate change caused by global warming is currently one of the trending topics in various media and it is an extremely serious threat to human security. Forest fires, floods, landslides and changes in lifestyles to survive natural disasters are the very significant contributing factors to poverty rates in various parts of the world. The London School of Economics and Political Science conducted a study of 141 countries affected by disasters in the 1981-2002 period and found a close link between natural disasters and women's socioeconomic status. Data from the National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB) states that women have 14 times of risk for becoming victims of disasters compared to adult men. Women become the most victimized because women prioritize children and their families rather than saving themselves. Although women bear more risks to climate change, women can also have the principal opportunity and role in implementing climate change mitigation adaptation, namely by making women actors in disaster mitigation and drivers of change in parallel to their strong responsibilities to their families. By providing adequate knowledge for women about adaptation and mitigation of disasters, the women can turn themselves to be the strategic activists in coping with disasters for communities living in disaster-prone areas.This study is a comparative discussion of three research results to obtain an overview and find solutions to women's problems from the consequences of climate change, which is a study by changing women from being the most victims of natural disasters to becoming the driving actor for families and communities in overcoming disaster and her ability to survive the post-disaster situation. The conclusion is the three levels of gender roles related to climate change to increase women's adaptive capacity. An adaptation strategy needs the form of 1. Increasing the role of women in the political arena. It is a crucial issue because women's rights can be protected by their presence and role, as well as women in guarding policies. 2. Increasing the role of women in the realm of education. Education is no less important than politics because education will provide a foundation for understanding and self-confidence, bargaining and personal branding for women so that their presence in society will be recognized and will no longer be discriminated. 3. Cultural reconstruction based on gender equality is very important because so far, the notion of patriarchy is still inherent in our culture. Many perspectives are cooptated on the statement that superior (men) are stronger then give rise women mythos that is said to be weak (women). In reality, the presence of women is still fundamental to the aspect of maintaining the economy and education for the continuation and the quality of the life in the society.

Abstract Musi Banyuasin is a district with a high level of vulnerability to forest and land fire disasters. Therefore, prevention efforts are needed to minimize forest fires again. Forest fire prevention efforts are activities that are the responsibility of all relevant stakeholders in Musi Banyuasin, one of which is the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Musi Banyuasin Regency. This research will focus on the role of BPBD in efforts to prevent forest and land fires in Musi Banyuasin Regency. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method of observation and in-depth interviews. The results of the study show that the BPBD of Musi Banyuasin Regency plays a role in accordance with its functions and obligations as a regional BPBD, namely as an organization that conducts risk studies of Kahutlha fire-prone areas in Musi Banyuasin Regency. The area risk assessment is carried out in three main stages, namely determining the condition of the area, determining the condition of the land through the level of vulnerability and hotspots, and finally informing the condition to the local government and the community through outreach activities.   Keywords:BPBD, Fire Disaster, Kahutlha,  Prevention   Abstrak Musi Banyuasin merupakan kabupaten dengan tingkat kerawanan level tinggi terhadap bencana kebakaran hutan dan lahan, Oleh karenanya, perlu adanya upaya pencegahan untuk meminim lisirter jadi kebarakan hutan kembali. Upaya pencegahan kebakaran hutan merupakan kegiatan yang menjadi tanggung jawab seluruh stakeholder terkait di Musi Banyuasin salah satunya adalah Badan Penanggulangan Bencana Daerah (BPBD) Kabupaten Musi Banyuasin. Penelitian ini akan berfokus pada peran BPBD dalam upaya pencegahan kebakaran hutan dan lahan di Kabupaten Musi Banyuasin. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan metode observasi dan wawancana mendalam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa BPBD Kabupaten Musi Banyuasin berperan sesuai dengan fungsi dan kewajibannya sebagai BPBD daerah yaitu sebagai organisasi yang melakukan kajian resiko Kawasan rawan kebakaran Karhutla di Kabupaten Musi Banyuasin. Kajian resiko Kawasan dilakukan dengan tiga tahapan utama yaitu menetapkan kondisi daerah, menetapkan kondisi lahan melalui tingkat kerawanan dan titik panas, dan terakhir adalah menginformasi kondisi kepada pemerintah daerah dan masyakarat melalui kegiatan sosialisasi.   Kata Kunci:BencanaKebakaran, BPBD, Karhutla, Pencegahan

Forest fires are a form of forest disturbance that often occurs. Every year, forest fires in Indonesia occur during the dry season. The causes of forest fires in Indonesia are natural and human factors. Forest fires cause an enormous loss in properly controlling forest fires. This study aims to analyze the factors that cause forest fires and examine the efforts to control forest fires and the role of community participation in forest fire control at BKPH Slarang, KPH Pemalang, Central Java. The highest forest fires occurred in 2015 with a frequency of 4 times that the total area of land burned was 11,10 hectares. Forest fire in BKPH Slarang caused a loss of costing IDR 50,234,000. The form of control exercised by BKPH is socialization or counseling about fires. Direct socialization or counseling is given to the community in various activities. Community participation is very high in prevention and blackout activities at BKPH Slarang KPH Pemalang. Key words: BKPH Slarang, causative factors, community participation, control of forest fire
