Forensic Soil Analysis: Case Study of Looting at a Roman-Visigothic Burial Vault

This research carried out in Huong Vinh commune, Huong Tra town, Thua Thien Hue province aimed to identify types of land use and soil characteristics. Results showed that five crops are found in Huong Vinh commune including rice, peanut, sweet potato, cassava and vegetable. There are two major soil orders with four soil suborders classified by FAO in Huong Vinh commune including Fluvisols (Dystric Fluvisols<em>, </em>Gleyic Fluvisols and Cambic Fluvisols) and Arenosols (Haplic Arenosols). The results from soil analysis showed that three soil suborders including Dystric Fluvisols<em>, </em>Gleyic Fluvisols and Cambic Fluvisols belonging to Fluvisols were clay loam in texture, low pH, low in OC, total N, total P<sub>2</sub>O<sub>5</sub> and total K<sub>2</sub>O. Meanwhile, the Haplic Arenosols was loamy sand in texture, poor capacity to hold OC, total N, total P<sub>2</sub>O<sub>5</sub> and total K<sub>2</sub>O

Mineral exploration is increasingly challenging in inhabited areas. To evaluate the potential of soil analysis by pXRF (portable X-ray fluorescence) as a low-footprint exploration technique, we revisited a historic Sb district in an agricultural area and performed shallow-soil sampling (Ah and B horizons) along profiles across known veins to capture the endogenic geochemical anomaly signals. Despite an expected bias between pXRF measurements and laboratory analyses, the former effectively located the Sb veins, especially when using their multi-element capabilities. Composition data processing (CoDa) and horizon-selective sampling significantly improved the method’s efficiency. On-site measurements allow dynamic sampling and mapping, helping with faster, cost-effective sample selection for further laboratory investigations. Based on this case study, where similar geochemical patterns were obtained for both horizons, application of an on-site approach to a humic horizon can increase survey efficiency and decrease impacts.

PT. Toba Pulp Lestari, Tbk is one of the industrial forestry companies with Eucalyptus as the main species. This research was conducted in a concession area located in Aek Nauli Plantation, Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra with an area of 22,533 Ha. The sample of this research is understorey species (height: 1.5 meters) under Eucalyptus stand in cycles 2, 3, 4 and 5 planted in 2015. To find out the composition of plant species, vegetation analysis was conducted initially by making minimum species-area curves to determine the number of plots. The placement of the sample starts with randomly distributed on plotted paths. The number of plots in each cycle is as many as 32 plots, 32 plots, 32 plots, 4 plots by 256 plots and 5 plots for 32 plots. The results of soil analysis found that secondary metabolic in eucalyptus soil classified into terpenoid which located at a distance of 50 cm (flat) and 100 cm (flat) from the tree at 2 years old Eucalyptus stand. The terpenoids also distributed in distance of 50 cm from trees with flat topography on 4 years old Eucalyptus stand. For 6 years old Eucalyptus stand, terpenoid distributed on 150 cm from a tree and there was also a saponin within 150 cm from a tree with sloping topography. If the dominant undergrowth grows were Strong and Senduduk, the secondary metabolism in the soil will be absorbed by this species.

The characteristics of tropical forests in Indonesia produce various types of plants that can be used to improve the economic sector of the surrounding communities. The study is carried out on several suitable plants to be cultivated. Coffee plants such as Arabica Coffee (Coffea arabica) and Robusta coffee (Coffea Canephora) are one of them. It will be conducted to figure out whether coffee plants are sufficiently feasible to be cultivated especially in Mane Village, Aceh Province, which is the location of the research. Feasibility of coffee plants is reviewed from soil analysis based on the soil research center (1983), land suitability and slope class. The results show that coffee plants are feasible to be used as one of the potential cultivated commodities.

Forest ecosystem and in particular forest soil biodiversity and stability could be jeopardised by the impropriate tree species composition. Douglas fir is a species which has a high potential in Europe both from economic and biodiversity aspects of forest management. A more detailed analysis of Douglas fir effects on the humus forms and forest soil under different conditions is needed to evaluate the future use of this species in central European forests. The study plots cover acid sites with natural hardwood, spruce monoculture and Douglas fir stands. The soil analysis proved favourable effects of this species on soil chemistry, organic matter as well as nutrient dynamics. When compared with domestic coniferous species, Douglas fir proved to have lower acidifying effects on upper soil layers and contributes to better humus forms, recycling nutrients more effectively and producing litter which could be easily decomposed. &nbsp; &nbsp;

The field-tested samples are done by stratified random sampling. Soil classification was obtained through observation of field profile morphology and soil analysis in the laboratory followed by supporting data such as temperature and rainfall. The Moramo River Basin (DAS) was used as the location of the case study in this experiment by observing 13 soil profiles. Soil properties and characteristics were observed for soil texture, clay mineral, soil pH (H2O and KCl), soil cation, saturation bases, and C-organic.  The soil naming was done to subgroup category based on Soil Taxonomy System in 2010 and paired with the land classification system of Soil Research Center in 1983, and WRB-FAO in 2006. The result showed that the accuracy of landform interpretation 89.6%, rocks 92.19%, accuracy of land use interpretation 90.63%, and accuracy of soil mapping 90.00%, so that the image ALOS AVNIR-2 can be utilized well to obtain parameter of the land unit for land mapping. The result of image data processing through RGB 341 composite image showed a high unidirectional frequency filter, histogram equalization, and analyzed with Geographic Information System, 15 units of landform, five-rock units. nine land-use units and 11 sub-soil sub-groups were obtained. The results of the soil classification in the Moramo Watershed (DAS) region in the subgroup category obtained 11 subgroups of land consisting of Lithic Udorthents, Typic Udifluvents, Aeric Endoaquents, Typic Fluvaquents, Typic Dystrudepts, Typic Eutrudepts, Ruptic-Alfic Eutrudepts, Lithic Dystrudepts, Oxyaquic Eutrudepts, Fluvaquentic Epiaquepts, Typic Endoaquepts.

System of Rice Intensification (SRI) by a Local Microorganisme Usage (MOL) in Producing the Compost Fertilizer (Case Study at Desa Sidodadi Kabupaten Deli Serdang) is expected to maintain the fertile of land, improve land microbia population and to preserve the environment at once capable to maintain or improve land productivity. The agriculture system with SRI is applied by using organic material such as fruif waste whis is fermented to produced MOL used as decomposer in composing proges. This reseach studied microbia population where an organik agricaltural system (SRI) has been applied. The reseach was comparedl of mikroba population soil also whith how effect SRI aplication between chemical fertilizer  for the managemental in Sidodadi village.Using compost MOL at SRI improved microbia  population soil by the result of soil analysis either chemically and biologically the uses of MOL compost is far better compared for environmental the uses of an-organic fertilizer. The SRI pattern practiced at Desa Sidodadi was an agricultural work  environmentally friendly using organic fertilizer as source of nutrients improve physical, chemical and biological properties of soil as well in increasing production yield.
