Many researchers assume a one-dimensionality of gender ideology constructs and/or stability of dimensions across countries and time, yet these assumptions have rarely been tested. WE apply factor analyses on two waves of the International Social Survey Programme in 2002 and 2012, and comparable European countries to test this. Our results show that gender ideologies can be distinguished into distinctive domains that relate to mother’s employment, women’s work, men’s role in the family, and finally women’s breadwinning. These dimensions have be found to be relatively stable across countries and time. Results from regression models investigating different aspects of the gender division of labour suggest that distinguishing dimensions is less important when considering gender ideologies at the individual level but can make a big difference when examining gender culture at the country level.

The Scanian Economic-Demographic Database (SEDD) is a high-quality longitudinal data resource spanning the period 1646-1967. It covers all individuals born in or migrated to the city of Landskrona and five rural parishes in western Scania in southern Sweden. The entire population present in the area is fully covered after 1813. At the individual level, SEDD combines various demographic and socioeconomic records, including causes of death, place of birth and geographic data on the place of residence within a parish. At the family level, the data contain a combination of demographic records and information on occupation, landholding and income. The data for 1813-1967 was structured in the model of the Intermediate Data Structure (IDS). In addition to storing source data in the SEDD IDS tables, a wide range of individual- and context-level variables were constructed, which means that most types of analyses using SEDD can be conducted without the need of further elaboration of the data. This article discusses the source material, linkage methods, and structure of the database.

Family research aims to explore family processes, but is often limited to the examination of unidirectional processes. As the behavior of one person has consequences that go beyond that one individual, Family functioning should be investigated in its full complexity. The Social Relations Model (SRM; Kenny & La Voie, 1984) is a conceptual and analytical model which can disentangle family data from a round-robin design at three different levels: the individual level (actor and partner effects), the dyadic level (relationship effects) and the family level (family effect). Its statistical complexity may however be a hurdle for family researchers. The user-friendly R package fSRM performs almost automatically those rather complex SRM analyses and introduces new possibilities for assessing differences between SRM-means and between SRM-variances, both within and between groups of families. Using family data on negative processes, different type of research questions are formulated and corresponding analyses with fSRM are presented.

The wars and armed conflicts in many regions of the world and especially in the Middle East have an eloquent impact on all life's happenings most especially in areas affected. Wars destroys community infrastructure such as health, education and other social services sectors. As of present, the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East had left a significant impact on the family and the individual in the areas affected. In the family, it has lead to disintegration and roles change. It is also lead to forced migration and asylum. At the individual level, it have impacted negatively in terms of psychology, social and physical wellbeing. Women and children are the most affected by traumatic events of war and they are the most vulnerable to all types of exploitation and abuse. The devastating effects of war on this vulnerable group can hardly be overemphasized. This paper discusses the problems faced by children and women in war and conflict zones. It also explores physical, mental health, social and educational crisis experienced by women and children in the Middle Eastern society. A society that is known to have witnessed many civil wars and armed conflicts. In addition, the study also discusses social and health services which must be provided to women and children in conflict affected area from the social work perspective.

The question was addressed as to whether individual-level and country-level score differences of a measure of the Independent and Interdependent Self, the Adult Sources of Self-Esteem Inventory (ASSEI) have the same meaning, using two-level exploratory factor analysis in a group of 5,258 college students and other adults from 19 countries. A two-factor solution based on factors interpreted as representing the Independent and Interdependent Self was highly similar at the individual and country levels, suggesting the applicability and similarity of meaning of the factors at both levels. The factors differed from the common conceptualization of in(ter)dependence in that at both levels the Independent Self involved both intrapersonal and interpersonal skills, while the Interdependent Self was narrowed down to unselfishness and being a good member of the family, community, and society. Finally, it was found that the two factors were not retrieved in all countries, indicating that the ASSEI did not measure the same in all countries.

В статье в рамках экологического и ресурсного подходов анализируется понятие индивидуальной жизнеспособности как важной характеристики студентов. Рассматриваются индивидуальные навыки жизнеспособности студента, проявляемой им в процессе обучения в университете, анализируются модели жизнеспособности А. Мастен и М. Унгара, созданные в рамках экологической модели развития Ю. Бронфеннбренера. Предложена экологическая модель жизнеспособности студента, которая позволяет учитывать большое число различных факторов риска, прямо или опосредованно оказывающих влияние на студента, и его защитных факторов, к которым он может обращаться для ответа на требования или угрозы, идущие от факторов риска. Факторы риска, действующие на уровне макросистем (актуальная экологическая, эпидемиологическая, экономическая и др. ситуации в стране или мире), в которые включен субъект, взаимодействуют со всеми нижележащими уровнями экологический системы (микро-, мезо- и экзосистемы, например, образовательная система вуза; семейная система и др.), и опосредованно оказывают на них влияние. Все это предъявляет к студенту требования, на которые он вынужден отвечать на основе своих индивидуальных ресурсов, а также ресурсов, заключенных на микро-, мезо- и экзо- уровнях. На любом из уровней, любая из систем может нести в себе как факторы риска, так и факторы защиты, быть ресурсной для отдельного студента. Риски могут возникать как на индивидуальном уровне (на уровне микросистем), так и на уровнях более высокого порядка. Поэтому и проявления жизнеспособности студентом оказываются необходимыми во всех этих системах и на разных уровнях. Развитие и усиление жизнеспособности происходит по мере того, как все уровни (семьи, университета, сообщества) работают вместе, чтобы положительно влиять на индивидуальный уровень жизнеспособности студента. Показано значение экологической модели жизнеспособности студента при использовании ее специалистами в области социальной, педагогической, семейной психологии, психологии развития для анализа факторов риска и жизнеспособности в научных исследованиях, психотерапевтической и консультационной работе. The article analyzes the concept of individual resilience as an important characteristic of students within the framework of environmental and resource approaches. The individual skills of the student's resilience shown by him in the process of studying at the University are considered, the models of resilience by A. Masten and M. Ungar created within the framework of the ecological model of development by Yu. Bronfenbrenner. An ecological model of the student's resilience is proposed, which allows us to take into account a large number of different risk factors that directly or indirectly affect the student, and his protective factors that he can turn to respond to the requirements or threats coming from risk factors. Risk factors operating at the level of macro-systems (current environmental, epidemiological, economic, etc. situations in the country or world), in which the subject is included, interact with all the underlying levels of the ecological system (micro -, meso - and exosystems, for example, the educational system of a university, the family system, etc.), and indirectly influence them. All this makes demands on the student, which he is forced to meet on the basis of his individual resources, as well as resources contained at the micro -, meso - and exo - levels. At any level, any of the systems can carry both risk factors and protection factors, be a resource for a student. Risks can occur both at the individual level (at the level of Microsystems) and at higher-order levels. The manifestations of resilience by the student are necessary in all these systems and at different levels. The development and strengthening of resilience occurs as all levels (family, university, community) work together to positively influence the individual level of the student's resilience. The importance of the ecological model of the student's resilience is shown when it is used by specialists in the field of social, pedagogical, family psychology, developmental psychology for the analysis of risk factors and resilience in scientific research, psychotherapeutic and consulting work.

AbstractBackground Gender inequity contributes to a range of poor health outcomes. Early adolescence presents a window of opportunity for gender transformative interventions to shift inequitable gender norms, attitudes and behaviors.Objective The objective of this study is to evaluate a set of individual, family and community interventions to increase gender equity among very young adolescents (VYAs) in rural Nepal.Methods Two communities received the individual-level Choices intervention as well the family and community Voices and Promises interventions (CVP). Two comparison communities received only Choices. Samples of 1200 VYAs and 600 parents were interviewed at baseline before implementation and at end line 1 year later.Results In both CVP and Choices only areas most measures of gender norms, attitudes, and behaviors improved, suggesting a positive effect of the individual-level intervention. Increases in norms, attitudes, and behaviors reported by VYAs were generally greater in CVP areas compared to Choices areas, suggesting an added benefit from the family and community interventions. Parent-reported measures did not demonstrate an intervention effect of the family and community interventions. Uneven evaluation results, particularly among parents, may reflect implementation challenges such as the compressed 3-month intervention period due to the 2015 earthquakes and subsequent political unrest.Conclusion Overall findings are encouraging and suggest that adding family and community interventions may improve gender equity.

AbstractIn this study, we used 10 healthy sheep, which gave birth to healthy twins. Stool samples were collected from mothers and their offspring 3 times during the study (0, 28 and 56 day postpartum). Milk samples were taken from the mothers at the same time. RT PCR analysis of faeces and milk was performed in order to assess the level of bacteria from the Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes phyla including the family Lactobacillaceae (phylum Firmicutes). The composition of mother's milk was also analyzed and their BCS. The data were compiled statistically. The obtained results showed that the level of the studied groups of bacteria may change due to the change of diet. Additionally, there were significant differences between lambs and mothers in the levels of the studied groups of bacteria. Analysis also shown that in the digestive system of mothers was a smaller disproportion in the level of the studied bacterial phyla than in lambs. The results also indicated the occurrence of differences in the bacterial composition at the individual level, both in ewes and their offspring. Additionally, in the conducted experiment, there were differences in the level of Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes groups depending on the sex.

People may finance entrepreneurs, often family members. Here, the question is: how has the COVID-19 pandemic affected people’s funding of family-related entrepreneurs and non-family-related entrepreneurs? The pandemic predictably reduced the funding of family-related entrepreneurs and especially the financing of non-family-related entrepreneurs. However, a culture supportive of family businesses may alleviate the declining funding of family-related entrepreneurs, predictably, while a secular–rational culture supportive of non-family businesses may alleviate the declining financing of non-family-related entrepreneurs. Similar to a field experiment, a globally representative survey was conducted before and after the disruption in 42 countries, interviewing 266,983 adults either before or after the disruption. The individual-level data are combined with national-level data on culture, amenable to hierarchical linear modeling. People’s financing of family-related entrepreneurs and especially of non-family-related entrepreneurs are found to have declined with the COVID-19 pandemic. However, culture provides resilience, in that the declining funding of family-related entrepreneurs was alleviated where the culture supports family businesses, and the declining funding of non-family-related entrepreneurs was alleviated in societies with a secular–rational culture. The findings contribute to contextualizing business angel financing temporally, as embedded in time before and after the COVID-19 pandemic disruption, and societally, as embedded in culture providing resilience.

Typical studies of youth physical activity ignore the dependence among family members, examining only individual levels of data rather than individual and family levels. The current study examined physical activity among siblings (mean age = 12.2 years), using hierarchical linear modeling. Individual-and family-level covariates of physical activity were included in the model. Data from 930 siblings nested within 371 families were analyzed in a four-level multilevel design. Results indicated that siblings were similar in their levels of physical activity, and that levels of physical activity varied across families. At the individual level, age was a significant predictor of physical activity. At the family level, higher levels of family support were related to higher levels of sibling physical activity, as were single-parent status and higher income. Perceptions of neighborhood opportunities and observed neighborhood physical activity facilities were negatively related to family levels of physical activity.
