Diagnosis of endometrioid heterotopias of the pelvic cavity is often complicated, because at the initial stage there are no characteristic sonographic signs of this pathology. However, transvaginal ultrasound can be used as the main imaging method in the patients with suspected endometriosis. Due to a wide variety of forms and degrees of endometriosis, the similarity of clinical signs of other diseases, frequent asymptomatic course of the disease are objective difficulties in the correct and timely diagnosis of endometrioid heterotopias of the pelvic cavity. Ultrasonography can be used both to detect and to monitor the dynamics of endometriosis. Transvaginal sonography allows a qualitative detection of endometrioid heterotopias of the pelvis and with a high probability to reveal endometrioid cysts, hydrosalpinx, hematosalpinx, peritoneal endometriosis and is considered the best method of visualization of the endometrium. There were examined 57 patients with various forms of endometrioid heterotopias of the pelvic organs by transvaginal ultrasonography, which was performed on the 5th−9th day of the menstrual cycle. Adenomyosis of various degrees has been diagnosed, which should be understood as a disease consisting of ectopic location of endometrial glands and stroma as well as muscle changes. Due to the variety of forms and degrees of endometriosis, combination with clinical signs of other diseases, often asymptomatic course of the disease, which leads to severe damage to the reproductive system, there are objective difficulties in correct and timely diagnosis of endometrioid heterotopias and pelvic cavity organs. Modern visual methods of transvaginal ultrasonography are the key to correctly determining the stage and extent of endometriosis, which will directly affect the choice of treatment. Key words: endometriosis, heterotopia, ultrasound diagnostics, pelvic cavity.

The authors describe clinical observations of children with acute mesenteric adenitis with PCRconfirmed COVID-19 infection. Attention during ultrasound diagnostics is drawn to the condition of the lymph nodes – mesenteric adenitis in COVID-19 infection was manifested by a significant increase in the size of the nodes – more than 15 mm, a large number of nodes in the cut with a tendency to form a conglomerate, a more rounded shape, significantly increased blood flow, a reaction of the peritoneum in the form its thickening and the presence of free fluid in the abdominal cavity. Unusual for a «ordinary» respiratory viral or intestinal infection type of lymph nodes was the only sign that distinguishes the manifestations of mesenteric infection in COVID-19 infection.

Introduction. The ultrasound diagnostics of the optic nerve includes the analysis of the optic nerve disc (PNO) and measuring of its retrobulbar diameter. With B-scan, by Schraeder's method, it is possible to measure very precisely the optic nerve, the pial diameter, the normal values for the pial diameter being 2.8-4.1 mm. In glaucoma, the disease that is most frequently associated with higher intraocular pressure, there comes the destruction of nerve fibres, which can be visualized as the excavation of the optic nerve disc. Objective. In this paper, we were interested in finding whether in glaucoma, and in what phase of the disease, the optic nerve starts growing thinner. Aware of many forms of this very complex disease, we were interested in knowing if the visualization of excavation on the optic nerve disc is related to diminishing of the pial diameter of the retrobulbar nerve part. Methods. There were treated the patients who had already had the diagnosis of glaucoma and the visualized excavation of the optic disc of various dimensions. Echographically, there was measured the thickness of the retrobulbar part of the optic nerve and the finding compared in relation to the excavation of the optic disc. Results. In all eyes with glaucoma, a normal size of the retrobulbar part of the optic nerve was measured, ranging from 3.01 to 3.91 mm with the median of 3.36 mm. Also, by testing the correlation between the thickness of the optic nerve and the excavation of the PNO, by Pearson test, we found that there was no correlation between these two parameters (r=0.109; p>0.05). Conclusion. In the patients with glaucoma, the retrobulbar part of the optic nerve is not thinner (it has normal values), even not in the cases with a totally excavated optic disc. There is no connection between the size of the PNO excavation and the thickness of the retrobulbar part of the optic nerve.

The article aims to assess the possibility of ultrasound scanning and dopplerstudy in the assessment of the condition of the ovaries and endometrial in patients after long intake of COC, predicting the restoration of reproductive function after the abolition of hormonal contraception. Material and methods. In 2018-2019, 37 women were examined after the abolition of oral contraceptives, which they took for a long period of time. At the time of the examination, all the patients stopped taking COC at least 2 months ago due to the fact that they were planning a pregnancy. UW the study was conducted on the apparat Voluson E8 Expert (General Electric), improving the quality of diagnostics used Automatic assessment of follicle condition based on ultrasonic echography (Sono AVCTM follicle) and tomographic ultrasound (TUI). Results. According to the study significant changes recorded 17 patients whose menstrual cycle did not recover within the first 6 months after the cancellation of COC. In a group of 20 patients with a regular menstrual cycle, the results of the study were within normal limits, pregnancy within 6 months occurred on their own in 8 of them. Conclusion. The possibilities of 3 dimensional reconstruction and programs for evaluating the follicular apparatus significantly improve the quality of ultrasound diagnostics, give more information about the presence of small follicles, blood flow in the ovarian tissue, the structure of the cortical apparatus substances and stroma, whichis the ability of a clinician to obtain a complete understanding of the condition of the ovaries and endometrial and predicting a good health of patients. The article may be of interest to obstetricians-gynecologists, ultrasound specialists, endocrinologists, reproductive specialists.

The aimis to describe modern approaches used in the diagnostics of cholelithiasis in pregnant women.Results.Cholelithiasis diagnostics in pregnant women is a rather difficult task, frequently taking a long time and significantly worsening the prognosis for both the mother and the fetus. Abdominal ultrasound is the “gold standard” for the diagnosis of cholelithiasis in pregnant women, allowing the diagnosis to be clarified and the treatment tactics to be adjusted. The possibilities of such modern methods as endoscopic ultrasound diagnostics, magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, and laparoscopic ultrasonography used in difficult diagnostic cases are presented.Conclusion.The use of a maximal range of diagnostic studies in pregnant women makes it possible to establish the diagnosis as soon as possible and to reduce the frequency of surgical and related perinatal complications. As a result, the prolongation of pregnancy and a decrease in maternal and intrauterine mortality can be achieved.Conflict of interest: the authors declare no conflict of interest.

AbstractBackground/Aim. It has been noticed that doctors who regularly perform ultrasound examinations have different clinical manifestations of musculoskeletal disorders. The aim of this research is to examine the level of knowledge of ultrasonographers regarding preventative measures and health consequences of the forced body positions during work.Subjects and methods. The total of 75 doctors of both genders, aged 31-50 years, who use ultrasound diagnostics participated in the research. The research was conducted throughout 2016, as a cross-sectional study, with the aid of a structured questionaire.Results. The total of 60% subjects either rarely use the break during working hours or do not have a break at all. The participants most commonly use the movable monitor and the ability to wrap the cable around their arm (73,3%). This percentage is similar in all age groups. The respondents most often stated that they walk daily (41,3%), with no differences among age groups. 25% of the respondents negate any spine related pains, while over a half said that they experience pain in one segment of the spinal column (cervical, thoracic or lumbar), regardless of the age group. 52% said that they serch for information on their own accord, while 36% stated that they are not at all informed. Only in less than 10% of cases is information provided by the authorities in the institution where the participants are employed, and during regular health examinations, information is given by the designated doctor in 2,7% of cases.Conclusion. The respondents implement the recommendations regarding safe work and other preventative measures to a very small extent, regardless of gender and age. Most of the respondents experience pain in the spine and joints, which can be related to the work in ultrasound diagnostics. Additionally, doctors are not well-informed regarding the preventative measures.

Ultrasound Real time 2D diagnostics, being an available and non-invasive method, issuccessfully used in human medicine, veterinary medicine and biology to diagnose bothphysiological and pathological conditions. In the case of small animals, the ultrasound is often usedto diagnose gravidity, number, size and vitality of fetuses as well as to diagnose pathologicalconditions present in the genital tract, and is also used to examine testicles and prostate of maleanimals. Today's advanced use of the ultrasound diagnostics provides us with an opportunity todetect numerous pathological conditions of reproductive tract of both female and male animals, andthose conditions directly affect health status of other internal organs. The aim of this study is todiagnose primary genital tract disorders using the ultrasound diagnostics, as well as proving itsconnection to the changes in parenchymal organs. The ultrasound examination was performed onthe total of 12 dogs, 6 male and 6 female dogs. Ovaries, uterus and the organs in the abdominal areawere examined using a transducer ranging from 5 to 8 MHz. A transducer of 7.5 MHz was used toexamine prostates and testicles. The patients were in dorsal position. Three out of six examined maledogs exhibited changes on their prostates, and the remaining one had a tumor on the testicles. Cystitisand hyperplasia of prostate were also found upon the examination of these dogs. One out of sixexamined female dogs, had cystic endometrial hyperplasia, three of them had pyometra, and one ofthem was diagnosed with an follicular cyst. In addition to these pathological conditions, changeswere noticed in the liver and pancreas. Along with the detection of primary changes in the genitaltract of both male and female animals, the ultrasound diagnostics can be used to discover consequentchanges in parenchymal organs.

Microbubbles have applications in industry and life-sciences. In medicine, small encapsulated bubbles (< 10 μm) are desirable because of their utility in drug/oxygen delivery, sonoporation, and ultrasound diagnostics. While there are various techniques for generating microbubbles, microfluidic methods are distinguished due to their precise control and ease-offabrication. Nevertheless, sub-10 μm diameter bubble generation using microfluidics remains challenging, and typically requires expensive equipment and cumbersome setups. Recently, our group reported a microfluidic platform that shrinks microbubbles to sub-10 μm diameters. The microfluidic platform utilizes a simple microbubble-generating flow-focusing geometry, integrated with a vacuum shrinkage system, to achieve microbubble sizes that are desirable in medicine, and pave the way to eventual clinical uptake of microfluidically generated microbubbles. A theoretical framework is now needed to relate the size of the microbubbles produced and the system’s input parameters. In this manuscript, we characterize microbubbles made with various lipid concentrations flowing in solutions that have different interfacial tensions, and monitor the changes in bubble size along the microfluidic channel under various vacuum pressures. We use the physics governing the shrinkage mechanism to develop a mathematical model that predicts the resulting bubble sizes and elucidates the dominant parameters controlling bubble sizes. The model shows a good agreement with the experimental data, predicting the resulting microbubble sizes under different experimental input conditions. We anticipate that the model will find utility in enabling users of the microfluidic platform to engineer bubbles of specific sizes.
