This chapter is a review of the goals of the adult learners, with a focus on factors that impact the learning process. Principles of education of adult learners are discussed. There are various effective strategies for instruction; however, regardless of the strategies developed, instruction of adults at any level in higher education must facilitate learners' paths toward achieving their goals in pursuing higher education. In teaching adult learners, some factors impacting the learner that require consideration are discussed.

ABSTRACT: This document identifies the strategies used in diverse higher education institutions for enhancing entrepreneurial spirit in their undergraduate students, as well as the involvement of different actors of society through university clusters formation that allow high impact in entrepreneurship, innovation and solutions to social problems. This is possible through human resource training, disruptive thinking, knowledge generation and links with the productive, academic and governmental sectors. The conclusions show that university clusters are effective strategies for enhancing entrepreneurial spirit.

In an environment of frequent changes, organizations are constantly influenced by the environment in which they operate. For higher education institutions the rule is the same, therefore, becomes essential to the adoption of effective strategies for your success. This technical report aims to the simulation of scenarios on the Office of personnel management of a Public higher education institution located in the Western region of Paraná. For this, the Rojo model of simulation scenarios (ROJO, 2005) on this pró-reitoria, since the practice of simulation scenarios was not part of your strategic planning. As a contribution, this intervention resulted in the formulation of strategies for three scenarios designed: a pessimist, an intermediary and an optimist. In the end, drew up a plan of action containing goals aligned with strategies to minimize or take advantage of future contingencies.

In higher education, teaching cybersecurity concepts to students such as encryption-based security protocols is a challenging task, but it is fundamental for personal and national security. One of the reasons for this is related to the inadequate mathematical knowledge of students, which limits their understanding of the cryptographic algorithms underlying the protocols. Therefore, higher education institutions are seeking out engaging and effective strategies for developing students’ skills in this area. The aim of this research is to explore the use and potential effectiveness of game-based learning to assist in the teaching and learning of cybersecurity concepts in higher education. It contributes to the literature by raising public interest in cybersecurity and helping learners to understand suitable and safe behaviors online. It also offers a systematic overview of game-based learning tools that have been used in previous studies to improve students’ understanding of cryptographic algorithms. This research also presents a framework for the effective teaching of cryptography in higher education, relying on animation and gamification.

This article presents a critical analysis of key elements within the conference question as the basis for proposals for an inclusive and systematic approach to the development of mainstream disciplinary higher education curricula designed to meet the needs of students and societies in a multicultural globalizing world. The critical analysis considers key objectives, understandings and limitations of GII ‘competencies’, how we conceptualize ‘students’ within a globalizing higher education, how ‘effective’ strategies might be framed, and how internationalization abroad and at home might be re-envisioned in the era of the post-national university. The article illustrates how this critical analysis points to the need to embed internationalization efforts, and their success indicators, within the mainstream curriculum across the disciplines.

This paper investigated the declining number of students in higher education institutions, and the effective strategies universities can use to recruit students who will graduate. From this research, it appeared that data-driven decision-making can be an effective means to create a successful enrollment management office. Through a practice of data-driven decision-making, organizational learning can happen, which will allow an organization to maintain success and build a culture that sustains that success. Three key themes emerged from the research that will help to inform best practices for other colleges and universities to implement ideas from this research. The three themes are: an organization must have good, usable data; an organization should strive to create a culture of teamwork to sustain success, and an organization needs a successful enrollment leader.

This chapter explores the role of mobile technologies, such as Global Positioning System (GPS) and cell phones and tablet PC technologies, in higher education and professional development; offers creative strategies and possibilities for integrating GPS and mobile technologies into the curriculum with limited resources; outlines participants' projects and digital stories; and demonstrates examples that integrates Maps, Mathematics, and Media Education using cell phones, tablet PCs, and GPS devices in a gallery walk. The study explores a wide range of meanings participants associated with experiential project-based learning activities; the impact of mobile technologies in developing multicultural and multilingual curriculum that promotes inclusive and differentiated instruction; the ways in which participants integrated math, maps, and media into their learning; and how they gained alternative points of view on global education and renewed interest and commitment to community service and socially responsible teaching. This chapter will benefit teacher candidates and teacher educators who seek innovative and cost-effective strategies and tools in higher education.
