The populations in this study were children aged 5-6 years. This research was conducted at PAUD Aisyah Az-zahra Medan. The research method used was quasi-experimental. The collection technique was a questionnaire and a test, then the data analysis technique was a two-way analysis of variance. The results showed (1). the average social skills of children who learn to use macro role playing strategies are higher, namely = 8.80 compared to those who use micro role playing strategies = 6.50, with f-count = 9.096 > f-table = 3.48, with a level significant 0.05, (2) the average social skills of children who have high self-concept is higher with an average = 9.15 while the average social skills of children who have low self-concept = 7.96 with f-count = 5,967> f-table = 3.48 with a significant level of 0.05, and (3) there is an interaction between playing with self-concept on children's social skills with f-count = 4.591> f-table = 3.48 at a significant level of 0, 05.

The study compared the social skills of preschoolers with and without craniofacial anomalies (CFA). Fifty-two children completed self-perception and facial expression tasks and a social skills interview. Parents and teachers also rated the children's social skills. Children with CFA gave less friendly responses to hypothetical social situations and were rated as less attractive by graduate students. Girls with CFA reported above average self-perceptions. Parents and teachers rated the children with CFA as having a level of social skills equal to the children without CFA. Different factors were predictive of level of social skills for CFA and control children.

Basically, children need meaningful activities, children like to take part in adult activities, so they feel useful and feel needed. The montessori method is based on the principle that a child's education must emerge and coincide with the stages of the child's development itself. The characteristics of this method are emphasizing the activities that are raised by the child and emphasizing the adjustment of the child's learning environment at the stage of its development. Social skills can be stimulated by various methods, one of which is the Montessori method. Traditional society still perceives that physical education is ineffective in shaping children’s character and that physical education is still considered as only a playing activity without having significant effects to the development of children’s social skill. This research aims to help children shape their social skills through the traditional games provided by physical education teachers with their comprehensive playing activities. The method used in this research was a qualitative approach, by doing some observations and unstructured interviews to teachers and students. The format of the game used in this research was the modification of traditional games called ‘Gobak Sodor’ which is adapted to the multilateral development of children and the theory of sports education. The result of observation and interview shows that the modified traditional games ‘Gobak Sodor’ can help children to shape their social skills, such as personal and social responsibility, teamwork, communication and the care of each other in the game. It can be concluded that the social skills of children can not be created instantly. It requires time and continuous learning process. One of the approaches which can be used in forming children’s social skills is modified traditional sport games ‘Gobak Sodor’.

Background: The family has an important role in shaping the children’s behaviors. Today, along with social change, the family, as a major social institution, is also undergoing some significant changes. Social behaviors are learned in the family, and the behaviors of family members are considered as examples by children. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the relationship between children’s social skills and developmental function of the family in Iran. Methods: A descriptive-analytical correlation study was conducted in Iran in 2018. The subjects included 309 primary school students in four districts of the city (north, south, east, and west). The data collection tools were a demographic questionnaire, the Developmental Family Functioning Assessment Scale (DFFAQ), and the Matson Evaluation of Social Skills with Youngsters (MESSY), which were completed by the researcher and children’s mothers. SPSS 16 was used for statistical analysis. The chi-square test and Pearson’s correlation coefficient were applied for data analysis. The P values of less than 0.05 were considered significant. Results: The results showed that the developmental function of the family was at an intermediate level in 72.2% and a good level in 27.8% of the research units. The social skills of the children were at an intermediate level in 39.5% and a good level in 60.5% of the subjects. There was a significant positive correlation between children’s social skills and developmental family function (r = 0.2, P = 0.03). The result of multiple regression analysis showed that care and regulation were better predictors of social skills in children (β = 0.25, P = 0.001), and 30% of the variance in social skills could be predicted by the function of the family. Conclusions: It is suggested that parents, nurses, psychologists, and other health providers design appropriate interventions to promote the developmental functions of the family to improve the social skills of children.
