The tribological interfaces in microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) pose a significant hurdle in the advancement of MEMS. In order to gain a better understanding of these tribological interfaces, meaningful friction and wear measurements of MEMS devices must be made at loads and speeds relevant to MEMS operation. Devices containing isolated tribological contacts from which quantitative friction forces can be extracted have been developed. Since independent in-plane measurement of forces are not available for structures that are on the order of microns thick, the normal and tangential forces between structures are typically estimated based on the calculation of the force output of electrostatic actuators, and the force required to bend compliant suspensions. We will discuss the uncertainties associated with the measurement of applied and friction forces in MEMS tribometers, and metrology needs for improved tribological analysis of dynamic microsystems. We will also present a method of independent force calibration in these devices, and compare measured output characteristics with those predicted from mechanics and electrostatics.

Structure and working principle of the two-stage moving coil electro-hydraulic servo valve has been analyzed. Through Laplace transformation to get the transfer function by the dynamic equations of the moving coil force motor, the displacement and current double closed loop control to simulate the force output characteristics, ignoring the electromagnet and valve clearance of hysteresis effect, the simulation model was established based on AMESim. The main simulation parameters was determined by the means of measuring and calculating, the control parameters of the pilot spool and the main spool were optimized based on the step response. Inputting the same multiple superimposed sine excitation signal to the physical prototype and simulation models, comparing the simulation and experimental results in the time domain and frequency domain, the correctness of simulation model was proved.

The performance of engineering machinery and equipments will be affected under the environment of unstable electromagnetic fields. In the magnetic field, with focusing on the proportional solenoid of a certain engineering machinery hydraulic proportional control system, the internal changes of characteristics in the magnetic field lead to the changes of force output characteristics through output changes in air gap magnetic flux, and the instantaneous output performance is affected by electromagnetic interference. The electromagnetic environment’s effect on the changes of electro-hydraulic control system is determined by implementation of the proportional solenoid electromagnetic interference. The result shows that the control performance of mechanical hydraulic control system becomes unstable, and the anti-electromagnetic interference capacity of electromagnetic sensitive element in the electro-hydraulic control system should be improved.

Abstract In the automotive IC using thick-film silicon on insulator (SOI) semiconductor device, if the gettering capability of a SOI wafer is inadequate, electrical characteristics degradation by metal contamination arises and the yield falls. At this time, an automotive IC was made experimentally for evaluation of the gettering capability as one of the purposes. In this IC, one of the output characteristics varied from the standard, therefore failure analysis was performed, which found trace metal elements as one of the causes. By making full use of 3D perspective, it is possible to fabricate a site-specific sample into 0.1 micrometre in thickness without missing a failure point that has very minute quantities of contaminant in a semiconductor device. Using energy dispersive X-ray, it is possible to detect trace metal contamination at levels 1E12 atoms per sq cm. that are conventionally detected only by trace element analysis.
