Corn cob, an agricultural waste, is paralyzed at different temperatures (700oC, 800oC and 900oC). Microwave absorption of carbon in the frequency range of 2 GHz to 8 GHz is reported. Carbon activated  with 5%  nickel nitrate showed more than 90% absorption of microwave in the frequency range from 6 GHz to 8 GHz, while carbon activated  with 10% Nickel nitrate treated corn cob showed 90% absorption  in the frequency range of 2.5 GHz to 5 GHz. Carbon showing the best absorption are characterized by XRD, Raman spectra and SEM . It is suggested that corn cob treatment   alone with KOH did not improve the microwave absorption, whereas treatment along with nickel nitrate improved the absorption property much better. It is proposed that treatment with nickel nitrate helps in creating suitable pores in carbon   which improved the absorption behavior because while treating carbon with 1N HCl helps to leach out nickel creating equivalent amount of pores in the carbon.

Fe3O4/PDA vesicle Janus nanospheres were successfully synthesized, and they exhibited an ultra-wide effective band as wide as 11.6 GHz, covering 73% of the whole measured frequency range (2–18 GHz), and a strong absorption intensity as high as −50.0 dB due to the asymmetric polarization and magnetic coupling effect.

Amorphous structures may play important roles in achieving highly efficient microwave absorption performance due to the polarization losses induced by the disorders, vacancies and other functional groups existed in them. Herein, a kind of amorphous TiO2/rGO composite (a-TiO2/rGO) was successfully fabricated via a facile one-step solvothermal method. The complex permittivity of the composites can be regulated by adjusting the addition of precursor solution. The minimum reflection loss of a-TiO2/rGO composites reached −42.8 dB at 8.72 GHz with a thickness of 3.25 mm, and the widest efficient absorption bandwidth (EAB) was up to 6.2 GHz (11.8 to 18 GHz) with a thickness of only 2.15 mm, which achieved the full absorption in Ku band (12 to 18 GHz). Furthermore, the EAB was achieved ranging from 3.97 to 18 GHz by adjusting the thickness of the absorber, covering 87.7% of the whole radar frequency band. It is considered that the well-matched impedance, various polarization processes, capacitor-like structure and conductive networks all contributed to the excellent microwave absorption of a-TiO2/rGO. This study provides reference on constructing amorphous structures for future microwave absorber researches and the as-prepared a-TiO2/rGO composites also have great potential owing to its facile synthesis and highly efficient microwave absorption.

Abstract The Barium ferrite BaTixFe12-xO19 (x = 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8) ceramics doped by Ti4+ (BFTO-x) were synthesized by a modified sol-gel method. The crystal structure and magnetic structure of the samples were determined by neutron diffraction, and confirm that the BFTO-x ceramics were high quality single phase with sheet micro-structure. With x increasing from 0.2 to 0.8, the Ms decreases gradually but the change of Hc is complex under the synergy of the changed grain size and the magnetic crystal anisotropy field. Relying on the high valence of Ti4+, double resonance peaks are obtained in the curves of μ′′ and the resonance peaks could move towards the low frequency with the increase of x, which facilitate the samples perform an excellent wide-band modulation microwave absorption property. In the x = 0.2 sample, the maximum reflection loss can reach –44.9 dB at the thickness of only 1.8 mm, and the bandwidth could reach to 5.28 GHz at 2 mm when the RL is less than –10 dB. All the BFTO-x ceramics show excellent frequency modulation ability varying from 18 GHz (x = 0.8) to 4 GHz (x = 0.4), which covers 81% of the investigated frequency in microwave absorption field.
