Early adolescents’ perception of parenting styles is crucial to their present and future physical and mental well-being. The main aim of the present study was to analyze differences in parenting styles between mothers and fathers and differences on emotional state scales (anxiety, depression, and purpose in life) depending on gender, age, and family structure in 744 girls (54%) and boys (45.7%) aged between 10 and 12 years. The results showed that the early adolescents perceived greater levels of affect than criticism, with mothers being considered more affectionate than fathers. The greater the perceived affect and communication, the greater was the perception of purpose in life and the lower the levels of anxiety and depression in early adolescents. Boys showed higher levels of perceived criticism and rejection. Family affect and communication play a key role in purpose in life and emotional well-being of children, with parenting styles being a determining factor.

Although previous research has established relationships between perceived parenting styles and children’s deviant behaviours and links between these behaviours and a liking for intense and rebellious music, no research has explored the associations between perceived parenting styles and children’s liking for different music styles. Whereas previous research has considered musical taste by looking at a small number of individual difference variables in isolation from one another, the present research used a cross-sectional correlational design to investigate whether parenting styles, the Big Five personality traits, sensation seeking, age, and gender were associated with a liking for different music styles. In total, 336 Australians completed an online, self-report questionnaire. Analyses demonstrated there were relationships between five of the six parenting style variables and five of the music styles considered. This indicates that various parenting styles were associated with musical taste, and the nature of these associations extends well beyond those concerning rebellious music and neglectful parenting that have been identified by previous research.

The current study intended to investigate the influence of parenting styles on shyness among adolescents.  A sample of 200 subjects whose age ranged between 11 to 14 years was considered as early adolescents in the present study. Thus, a total sample of 200 subjects (100 boys and 100 girls) from in and around Mysore city were randomly selected as the participants of the study. They were provided with Parental authority questionnaire (PAQ; Buri, 1991) to measure perceived parenting styles –permissive, authoritative and authoritarian, and Shyness Assessment Test (SAT; D’Souza,2006), which measured shyness in three domains-cognitive/affective, physiological and action oriented.  Two-way ANOVA was employed to find out the influence of parenting styles and gender, and school type on shyness. Results revealed that parenting styles had significant influence over physiological domain and total shyness scores, where adolescents with permissive parenting styles were shyer than adolescents with authoritative and authoritarian parenting styles. Female adolescents were shyer than male adolescents in all the domains of shyness including total shyness. Adolescents studying in government schools were shyer than adolescents studying in aided and unaided schools in action oriented domain of shyness and total shyness.

This present study aimed to analyze the role of self-oriented perfectionism in mediating the effect of fathers’ and mothers’ parenting styles on Career Decision Self-Efficacy (CDSE) among students in Grade 11 Senior High School. The participants of the study comprised 179 students who were selected through convenience sampling method. This study employed three instruments, namely Career Decision Self-Efficacy Short Form, Parental Authority Questionnaire, and Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale. Data were analyzed by Hayes’s PROCESS Macro. Generally, the results show that fathers’ permissive parenting and mothers’ authoritarian parenting have an influence on the degree of CDSE among students which is mediated by self-oriented perfectionism. Moreover, the effect of fathers’ authoritative parenting predicts CDSE directly without the mediation effect of self-oriented perfectionism, whilst mothers’ authoritative parenting influences CDSE both directly and indirectly. Therefore, considering the actualization of proper parenting styles is necessary in order to build perfectionism personality which supports students’ effectiveness in career decision making. Keywords: Career decision self-efficacy, parenting styles, self-oriented perfectionism, studentsAbstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peran perfeksionisme orientasi diri dalam memediasi pengaruh gaya pengasuhan ayah dan ibu terhadap Efikasi Keputusan Diri Keputusan Karir (Career Decision Self-Efficacy/CDSE)  siswa kelas XI SMA.
