PurposeThe bid/no-bid decision is critical to the success of construction contractors. The factors affecting the bid/no-bid decision are either qualitative or quantitative. Previous studies on modeling the bidding decision have not extensively focused on distinguishing qualitative and quantitative factors. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to improve the bidding decision in construction projects by developing tools that consider both qualitative and quantitative factors affecting the bidding decision.Design/methodology/approachThis study proposes a mixed qualitative-quantitative approach to deal with both qualitative and quantitative factors. The mixed qualitative-quantitative approach is developed by combining a rule-based expert system and fuzzy-based expert system. The rule-based expert system is used to evaluate the project based on qualitative factors and the fuzzy expert system is used to evaluate the project based on the quantitative factors in order to reach the comprehensive bid/no-bid decision.FindingsThree real bidding projects are used to investigate the applicability and functionality of the proposed mixed approach and are tested with experts of a construction company in Alberta, Canada. The results demonstrate that the mixed approach provides a more reliable, accurate and practical tool that can assist decision-makers involved in the bid/no-bid decision.Originality/valueThis study contributes theoretically to the body of knowledge by (1) proposing a novel approach capable of modeling all types of factors (either qualitative or quantitative) affecting the bidding decision, and (2) providing means to acquire, store and reuse expert knowledge. Practical contribution of this paper is to provide decision-makers with a comprehensive model that mimics the decision-making process and stores experts' knowledge in the form of rules. Therefore, the model reduces the administrative burden on the decision-makers, saves time and effort and reduces bias and human errors during the bidding process.

It addresses scientific production and communication at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC). It presents the types of knowledge and the university as a producer and disseminator of scientific knowledge, with an emphasis on the types of scientific production of these institutions. It aims to identify the formal channels of scientific communication of UFC and the numbers of scientific production of its academic community in the last five decades. It uses bibliographic research, with a qualitative and quantitative approach. It concludes that the analysis of the numbers of the last five decades of UFC scientific productionmade available inits Institutional Repository and in Pergamumallows to verify the expressive quantitative advance of the production published in the last two decades, highlighting thenumbers of journal articlesavailable in the Institutional Repository and the disparityin the registration of TCC, dissertations and theses between the two platforms.

The purpose of this research is to improve the ability of introduction of geometry in the 5 to 6 year old children  through blocks playing activities. The subject of this research is children in grade B, RA Al-Watoniyah 16 Rawa Terate Cakung, East Jakarta. The method uses classroom action research. This research uses qualitative and quantitative approach according to Kemmis model which consists of four stages: planning, action, observation and reflection. The average score obtained in pre intervention is  35.90%. Based on these results, interventions must be taken through blocks playing activities. After doing intervention in cycle I, the results obtain an average score of 61.52%. Then intervention in cycle II obtains an average score of 80.97%. Based on the results of research that has been implemented, blocks playing activities can improve the ability children to introduction geometry effectively. Furthermore, this activity also can improve the moral, cognitive, social emotional, language and motor development.

Abstract: The activity of collecting land registration data is the main stage in the Complete Systematic Land Registration program (PTSL). Nowadays, the acceleration strategy by utilizing information technology such as Locus GIS and Mapit GIS as an android-based application for support land data collection activities has been widely used, both free and paid. Therefore, the factors of effectiveness of the application are important to be considered by the users so that they can be used appropriately and optimally according to user needs. This study aims to explore important matters related to the features owned and their advantages and disadvantages and usability of applications for collecting land registration data. Mix methods were used in this study which combines two approaches, namely qualitative and quantitative approach. The data of this study was collected through interview, observation and questionnaire. The result of this study shows that 1) Application features of Locus GIS and Mapit GIS  can be used for land data collection by considering the advantages and disadvantages of each; 2) The results of evaluating the utility test toward both applications for land data collection in accordance with ISO / IEC 9126-1 and ISO / IEC 9126-4 standards shows that it is equivalent to "Good" in the ratings and "Very Effective" in the categories.Keyword: The Effectiveness, Locus GIS, Mapit GIS, PTSL.

The objective of this study is to identify factors influencing unsafe use of hospital information systems in Malaysian government hospitals. Semi-structured interviews with 31 medical doctors in three Malaysian government hospitals implementing total hospital information systems were conducted between March and May 2015. A thematic qualitative analysis was performed on the resultant data to deduce the relevant themes. A total of five themes emerged as the factors influencing unsafe use of a hospital information system: (1) knowledge, (2) system quality, (3) task stressor, (4) organization resources, and (5) teamwork. These qualitative findings highlight that factors influencing unsafe use of a hospital information system originate from multidimensional sociotechnical aspects. Unsafe use of a hospital information system could possibly lead to the incidence of errors and thus raises safety risks to the patients. Hence, multiple interventions (e.g. technology systems and teamwork) are required in shaping high-quality hospital information system use.
