Internet of Things (IoT) is becoming a technology of great importance in the current era of the international economy development, with essential impact on all the social systems. Logistics is a sector undergoing deep innovation-driven change in the latest decades. It was information and communication technologies (ICT) that greatly contributed in the growth of the logistics market. These ICT-specific innovations allow connected logistics services to generate big scopes of data and diverse information that can be stored and analyzed with high accuracy. On account of this, market analysts believe that IoT is capable to trigger radical change the way of supply chains, and predict the average nearly 30 per cent annual increase of the global logistics market after 2020. This raises the importance of analyses of various dimensions of IoT technology impact on the expansion of the transport and logistics services market.          The definition of the notion “Internet of Things” is given, with emphasizing its significance for the modern economy. The IoT contributions in enhancing the market effectiveness of the transport and logistics services market are highlighted. Statistical data on the perspectives of IoT technology applications in transport and logistics services are analyzed, showing that transport logistics is an industry leader by IoT spending; essential advantages created by IoT in the transport and logistics services are highlighted. Cases of effective use of IoT at company level worldwide are given, to confirm that transport and logistics is one of the most promising sectors for implementation of IoT.

Container terminals are playing an increasingly important role in the global logistics network; however, the programming, planning, scheduling, and decision of the container terminal handling system (CTHS) all are provided with a high degree of nonlinearity, coupling, and complexity. Given that, a combination of computational logistics and deep learning, which is just about container terminal-oriented neural-physical fusion computation (CTO-NPFC), is proposed to discuss and explore the pattern recognition and regression analysis of CTHS. Because the liner berthing time (LBT) is the central index of terminal logistics service and carbon efficiency conditions and it is also the important foundation and guidance to task scheduling and resource allocation in CTHS, a deep learning model core computing architecture (DLM-CCA) for LBT prediction is presented to practice CTO-NPFC. Based on the quayside running data for the past five years at a typical container terminal in China, the deep neural networks model of the DLM-CCA is designed, implemented, executed, and evaluated with TensorFlow 2.3 and the specific feature extraction package of tsfresh. The DLM-CCA shows agile, efficient, flexible, and excellent forecasting performances for LBT with the low consuming costs on a common hardware platform. It interprets and demonstrates the feasibility and credibility of the philosophy, paradigm, architecture, and algorithm of CTO-NPFC preliminarily.

Various risks and uncertainties are strengthening the downside of the global economy. This paper aims to estimate the impact of the US–China conflict and the World Trade Organization (WTO) Appellate Body’s shutdown on global logistics demand and to show the seriousness of the situation. Existing literature studies on protectionism or the US–China trade conflict were considered, with a focus on the effects of specific issues or impact on bilateral relations. No research has quantitatively considered the adverse effects of the Appellate Body’s shutdown. In this situation, questions can be raised whether the current global shipping logistics system can be sustainable or not. This paper attempts to estimate the shrinking demand for shipping logistics due to global protectionism. Using a dynamic general equilibrium model and trade-cargo-container conversion methodology, which differentiates this paper from previous studies, the paper suggests that the combination of tariffs and NTBs can severely reduce international trade and the demand for maritime logistics services. Depending on the scenario, port cargo is expected to decrease by 3.95 to 6.9 trillion tons, which can be half of the global cargo. Based on these estimates, this paper suggests that a catastrophe could occur in global trade order as well as global maritime logistics. Finally, underlining that the international trade order should not be severely damaged, this paper proposes that countries around the world should seriously discuss this issue at the 12th WTO Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Kazakhstan in June 2020.

For the realization, a qualitative and quantitative description of matching degree between the elements for logistics supply network and demand network, logistics super network models are constructed by the theory of super network. Faced with the problems of diverse demand and massive circulation for commodities, this article studies the structure of the logistics super network of multi-commodity circulation and establishes the continuous cost function of the logistics demand and supply, reflecting the logistics cost of different commodities in different phrases. This article aims to establish the optimization model of logistics supernetwork by aiming to maximize the matching of supply and demand of multi-commodity. The model is transformed into the variational inequality problem, and proves the existence and uniqueness of the equivalence solution. Use the case of the logistics supernetwork of coal, a modified projection algorithm is adopted and the fact is revealed that improving the supply capacity of the network matching may have the original 81.3% increase to 90.5%, improving the impact of the relationship between trades, matching degree can be increased to 90.1%.

The purpose of the paper is to determine the impact of innovative technologies of artificial intelligence on the modernization of logistics infrastructure, the formation of new forms of logistics networks of Industry 4.0. Methodology. The survey is based on a study of the main trends in the field of logistics infrastructure development, analysis of the latest forms and methods of using artificial intelligence technologies in various fields. The study considers the forecasts of IDC “IDC Future Scape: Worldwide Digital Transformation 2021” and contains an assessment of the volume and effectiveness of investment in this area. The results of the survey showed that in addition to the radical transformation of the logistics network itself, the use of artificial intelligence technologies will lead to qualitative changes in the labor market. There is still the tendency to reduce the need for logisticians performing operational functions – automation of warehousing operations, unmanned stackers, and transporters instead of loaders and pickers will accelerate. Practical implications. The use of artificial intelligence technologies allows companies today to generate significant competitive advantages on this basis. However, soon this will not be an advantage, an indisputable condition for the company’s operation in the market of logistics services in general. Value/originality. The authors have highlighted the minimum quality and competencies required in the future, the presence of which in the company’s resource base will allow to use all the advantages of implementing innovative forms of piece intelligence - multi-competent knowledge in the areas of IT technologies, procurement and warehouse, transport, production and distribution logistics, mathematical analysis, and production management processes based on artificial intelligence.

The article reveals China's geostrategic interests in the Western Balkans. The paper highlights the main directions of Beijing's political and economic cooperation with the countries of the region, the impact of these processes on the foreign policy orientations of the Balkan countries. The focus is on assessing the international political potential of Chinese outbound tourism as a tool for neoliberal influence on the host destinations of the Western Balkans. The work consists of three interrelated parts. The first part, within the neoliberal paradigm, reveals the understanding of tourism as a factor of international political interaction and the establishment of "complex interdependence". For China, which generates the largest outbound tourist flow, these human communications provide the possibility of indirect influence on host destinations through the created economic dependence and the approval of "official tourist destinations." The second part of the study highlights the Chinese approach to the Western Balkans. It is motivated by the implementation of a large-scale project of the New Silk Road "Belt and Road Initiative", designed to create a cross-border transport and logistics network to accelerate the delivery of Chinese goods to European markets. In the context of this project, the countries of the Western Balkans have become a geographical "entry point" for both land and sea corridors of the new Silk Road, which connect the markets of Europe and Asia. The third part of the publication shows that China's international political and investment activity in the Western Balkans is based on a network of transnational social ties created under the auspices of the state. An appropriate place among them is given to tourist flows from China, whose communication strategies influence emotional and commercial involvement, as well as a positive perception of China in the region. It has been concluded that the intensification of tourist contacts and the related liberalization of mobility regimes serve as an important factor in strengthening the complex asymmetric interdependence of the Balkans with China. In the long term, this will strengthen Beijing's position in Europe, especially in the context of global competition with the United States.

Since the end of 2019, the outbreak of COVID-19 has severely affected port production and operation. There is little research on the systematic impact assessment. This study took Shanghai Port as an example and evaluated the impact under different scenarios through establishing a System Dynamics model. It is found that the epidemic mainly has a greater impact on passenger transport, but less on cargo transport. The ports with the function of transportation in highway, railway, and waterway were the key nodes in the international logistics network. More attention should be paid to the impact assessment of COVID-19 on ports’ production and operation. It is necessary to strengthen the port’s collection and distribution capabilities, improve port production efficiency, and further strengthen port modernization. This research method proposed in this paper can provide a reference for the impact assessment of similar events, and the empirical results can provide a reference for handling the epidemic shock for the port and shipping departments.

This article reports on results of a research aimed at understanding the relation between globalization and technology and what impact this relation has brought to the modern global supply chain. The research focuses on the e-business/e-commerce, a new but fast growing concept as a supply chain operation model, to compare and discuss the differences of related aspects to global supply chain management versus similar practices a decade earlier. An online questionnaire was used to collect data and the participants were all supply chain experts working for the same global logistics and transportation company. Participants' perceptions were collected about their online experience and how they have experienced the change in supply chain management as a result. The research revealed that there is a relationship between globalization, technology use, and the impact of these two elements on the evolution of the global supply chain in the e-business industry. Also, the ‘digitalization' is leading the global supply chain operations to a new operation platform. There were two main limitations in this study; a) relatively small sample size, and b) the majority of participants had a logistics background and this may have impacted their reported perceptions.
