Extreme supporters of the principle of relativity find no place for an æther. Thus Lord Haldane in discussing the theory of Einstein writes: “Space, as a physical thing with unvarying geometrical properties, is to be banished, just for the same sort of reasons as the æther was banished before it. Only observable things are to be recognised as real in the new system of modern physicists.” On the other hand, many followers of Faraday and Maxwell have regarded æther as the primary real substance; all mass, momentum, or energy being mass, momentum, or energy of the æther. Without entering into a discussion of the significance of physical “reality,” we may, with most physicists, agree to use the concept of æther as giving a model, inadequate though it is at present, for the interpretation of physical phenomena.

As is well known, the work of Aristarchus on Homer is not preserved by direct tradition. We have instead many fragments preserved mainly in the Homeric scholia, the Byzantine Etymologica and the Homeric commentaries by Eustathius of Thessalonica. These fragments go back to the so-called Viermännerkommentar (abbreviated VMK), the ‘commentary of the four men’, a commentary that is dated to the fifth-sixth century c.e. and collects the works of Aristonicus, Didymus, Nicanor and Herodian. In the first century b.c.e. Aristonicus explained the meaning of Aristarchus’ critical signs in a treatise called Περὶ τῶν σημείων τῶν τῆς ᾿Ιλιάδος καὶ ᾿Οδυσσείας, while in the Περὶ τῆς ᾿Αρισταρχείου διορθώσεως Didymus studied Aristarchus’ Homeric recension. In the second century c.e. two more scholars, Herodian and Nicanor, dealt with Aristarchus while analysing questions of prosody in the Homeric language (Herodian) or the punctuation of the Homeric text (Nicanor). Not all of these four ‘men’ are equally important, however, as sources for Aristarchus. In fact, Herodian and Nicanor had aims that were quite independent of Aristarchus’ enterprise: the former was concerned with problems of prosody, accentuation and aspiration in Homer, whereas the latter had developed a new system of punctuation to elucidate the Homeric text from a syntactic point of view. Although both Herodian and Nicanor did take an interest in Aristarchus, their focus was thus different from that of their Alexandrian predecessor. The goal of Aristonicus and Didymus, on the other hand, was specifically to reconstruct Aristarchus’ work on Homer; it is for this reason that they are considered the most trustworthy witnesses for Aristarchus’ fragments.

In this paper, we would discuss a bit more how cyber technologies operate in a physical way and why it's important to understand the limitations of a physical reality. So commonly - mathematical terms would get assumed as abstract - so they could be considered as somehow perfect. On the other hand, the reality would offer many boundaries and obstacles that should be avoided or better explained. As it's known, cyber technologies belong to digital systems containing so many electronic components that would have their physical performances. Those performances as well as the entire cyber defense of such digital technologies would be analyzed deeper through this effort.

Paul Dirac has been undoubtedly one of the central figures of the last century physics, contributing in several and remarkable ways to the development of quantum mechanics; he was also at the centre of an active community of physicists, with whom he had extensive interactions and correspondence. In particular, Dirac was in close contact with Bohr, Heisenberg and Pauli. For this reason, among others, Dirac is generally considered a supporter of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics. Similarly, he was considered a physicist sympathetic with the positivistic attitude which shaped the development of quantum theory in the 1920s. Against this background, the aim of the present essay is twofold: on the one hand, we will argue that, analyzing specific examples taken from Dirac's published works, he can neither be considered a positivist nor a physicist methodologically guided by the observability doctrine. On the other hand, we will try to disentangle Dirac's figure from the mentioned Copenhagen interpretation, since in his long career he employed remarkably different—and often contradicting—methodological principles and philosophical perspectives with respect to those followed by the supporters of that interpretation.Quanta 2019; 8: 68–87.

The process of stock opname of goods in a business is something that must be done regularly to control the business assets. The stock opname process generally requires a lot of money and time, especially in businesses that have many branch locations. During the implementation of stock opname, sales transactions are usually stopped so that the stock does not change. As a result, the longer the time for this process is required, the greater the loss. In addition, extra costs are also incurred when the implementing manager is sent to each branch location where the stock opname will be carried out. Due to the high costs and losses incurred, this stock opname is usually only done a few times a year. On the other hand, the low frequency of stock opname has an impact on increasing business losses due to loss of assets that cannot be detected early. This study aims to increase the effectiveness of the stock opname process to minimize losses that occur during the stocktaking process or losses due to delays in handling the loss of goods assets. The results of this study indicate that the new system design allows the stock opname process to be carried out remotely without the presence of a manager and without stopping sales transactions, so as to reduce operational costs. The frequency of stock opname can also be carried out more frequently so that if there is a loss of assets, it can be immediately identified and action is taken to avoid high business losses. The result of software testing using the Blackbox Testing method shows that the application can run well and the result of User Acceptance Testing shows the acceptance of respondents at 87%, which means that respondents accept the solutions offered well.

Mature students of mathematics can readily cope with new and abstract terms if precise definitions of the terms are provided. For such students, neither the new term nor its definition needs to have any obvious connection with the real world. Most young children, on the other hand, require relatively clear associations between abstract terms and physical reality. Making these associations is the role of pedagogical models. The word model has many meanings in mathematics and elsewhere, but it is used here simply to mean an assignment of meaning to an abstraction, in familiar—frequently physical—terms. The child's model, then, is somewhat analogous to the mathematician's definition.

One hundred and fifty years after the work of Ludwig Boltzmann on the interpretation of the irreversibility of physical phenomena, we are still not sure what we mean when we talk of “time” or the “arrow of time.” One source of this difficulty is our tendency to confuse time and becoming: that is, the course of time and the arrow of time, two concepts that the formalisms of physics do distinguish clearly. The course of time is represented by a line on which it is customary to place a small arrow that, ironically, must not be confused with the “arrow of time.” On the one hand, this small arrow indicates that the course of time is oriented. On the other hand, the arrow of time indicates the possibility for physical systems to experience, over the course of time, changes or transformations that prevent them from returning to their initial state forever.

BIM has been initiated in developing countries in recent years. It is a fact that adopting BIM has a large cost from the initiation of the implementation of the projects. This is the main reason that, in the company perspective, BIM methodology is not well-known at the beginning of a project, during the adaptation stage. Therefore, the transition to such a new system is quite costly, especially in terms of software licenses and personnel training. On the other hand, after some period of time, BIM starts to impact the progress of the projects in a positive way, such as the project becomes more transparent and more visible, as well as more manageable and controllable. So, the main outcome is the company starts to complete projects within a shorter duration and lower cost by using BIM. At the initial stage, BIM implementation investment is quite high, however in later stages these costs become more affordable. The main issue is quantifying effects and inserting to the evaluation of the investment. In this study, we proposed an interview analysis to conclude the keypoints of BIM adoption.

Inspection and preparation of ship departure schedule at Kantor Kesyahbandaran dan Otoritas Pelabuhan Teluk Bayur (KSOP) is still done manually, that means not yet using application program. This causes the frequent occurrence of ship schedules attached due to lack of clarity of information about the time of departure of the ship. The aims of this research that conducted in the office of harbormaster and authority of Teluk Bayur harbour are to find out how the process of scheduling the departure of ships in the Teluk Bayur harbour and design a new system that able to overcome the problems that often happens. Therefore, it is built up a system information that uses Visual Basic Net 2010 prog-ramming language to monitor schedule has been filled and empty in the Teluk Bayur harbour, so that information can be served quickly and properly. The advantages of the proposed system is recording and saved on a database so it can be is easily in making reports. On the other hand, a new system can also resolve departures ship schedule has been filled and empty on Teluk Bayur harbour. So that departures ship schedule can be clearer and properly.

We present a matrix formalism, inspired by the Minkowski four-vectors of special relativity, useful to solve classical physics problems related to both mechanics and thermodynamics. The formalism turns out to be convenient to deal with exercises involving non-conservative forces and production or destruction of mechanical energy. On the other hand, it provides a framework to treat straightforwardly changes of inertial reference frames, since it embodies the Principle of Relativity. We apply the formalism to a few cases to better show how it works.

1. I appreciate the careful reply which Dirac, Peierls and Pryce (hereafter referred to as DPP) have made to my criticism of the usual theory of the eigen-functions of a hydrogen atom. Their paper will be generally welcomed because there has not, I think, previously been available an authoritative and clear statement of what is assumed and the grounds for assuming it. Their defence, which is partly on lines I had not expected, has required very serious consideration. But the result of making the arguments more explicit is two-fold. The theory is perhaps more self-consistent than it had appeared to be; but on the other hand, the pressing need for amendment becomes too plain to be overlooked. I have endeavoured to show in the last twelve years that this amendment opens out very fertile extensions.
