Issues Affecting Gerontology Education and Manpower Needs in Population Aging

ABSTRACTThis paper discusses seven major issues that will affect the development of gerontology education in response to manpower needs in aging in Canada. These issues concern the definitions of aging for educational and manpower policy, manpower forecasting, knowledge base in gerontology, gerontology as an academic field or as a professional field, development of education programs, employment opportunities, and factors in supply and demand. The author stresses the importance of creating baseline data about manpower needs and occupational settings and about the knowledge base of gerontology in Canada.

Although there has been a proliferation of metrics to evaluate arts incubators, the academic field is still developing. Different models and methods of education are applied to the complex phenomena of arts incubators; therefore, it is crucial to measure the effectiveness of education programs from many different perspectives. Our aim is to propose a metric that can estimate the effect of each incubator activity based on the geospatial distribution of its participants. This GIS-based metric will provide a descriptive measure for the quantity and density of the geographical communities affected by the incubator’s activity as well as a socio-economic and demographic benchmarks. Our study investigates 14 US-based arts incubators that offer entrepreneurial training to their associated 1,087 incubatees. The goal of this study is to provide a metric that can assist arts incubators, program directors, arts administrators, and university programs assess program growth as well as funding and marketing efforts.

With the coming rush of population aging and the termination of the demographic dividend, the question on the extension of the legal retirement age is becoming a hot topic in the community. This paper analyzes factors affecting retirement age,such as demographic dividend, life expectancy, years of education per capita, supply and demand situation in labor market. From these factors, reasonable quantitative reference standards can be introduced.

The profession of evaluation continues to grow, generating more demand for evaluation services than can be fulfilled by the supply of well-trained evaluation practitioners. In this brief forum article, we discuss the current state of evaluator education in the United States and the ways in which university-based programs support the development of evaluation practitioners and scholars. We then discuss the opportunities and challenges university-based programs face, focusing on program design, the challenges of being an evaluation-focused faculty member, and the specific needs of evaluation graduate students. We conclude by providing a research agenda for evaluation scholars interested in advancing the knowledge base about university-based evaluator education.

This article traces the development of dance as an academic discipline from its infancy in physical education programs to its present state, noting the significance of the burgeoning field of dance science and how it is a catalyst for the reconnecting of dance to physical education. The academic discipline of dance originated in the early 20th century in American academe, particularly in women’s physical education programs. By the 1920s, dance emerged as a discrete discipline with Margaret H’Doubler’s founding of the first baccalaureate degree in dance at the University of Wisconsin. By the 1960s, the academic discipline of dance had shifted from its original mission of movement education for everyone to focus more on professional dance training for highly skilled performers. This philosophical shift saw many dance programs move from homes in physical education to the fine arts. During this time, dance also saw an increasing disciplinary emphasis on choreographic and performance projects, a trend still evident today. Dance science began to develop as an academic field in the early 1980s, and shortly after publications and conferences in the area were born. The professional association the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science was founded in 1990. With dance science’s emergence, dance and physical education began to realign, albeit often in departments of kinesiology. Today, with the development of dance science as a burgeoning field, dance and kinesiology are coming full circle, rejoining through their historical roots.

With the increasingly serious problem of population aging around the world, the issue of consumer retirement planning behaviors has been highlighted in recent years. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of consumer financial knowledge on retirement planning behaviors. Utilizing the data from the National Financial Capability Study in 2009, 2012, 2015, and 2018, this study measures consumer retirement planning behavior through the variables of whether consumers have retirement accounts and whether they regularly contribute to their retirement account. To verify the robustness, a series of additional regressions are conducted by replacing the estimation approach and dropping income outliers. The results imply that consumers with a high level of financial knowledge tend to perform desirable retirement behaviors. Based on the results, we recommend that financial education programs should be widely introduced and targeted at those who lack financial knowledge, such as the elderly and the under-educated, to stimulate consumers to improve their retirement planning behaviors.

The deficit of natural gas supply and demand could be minimized by discovering new reserves in conventional or unconventional reservoir. Shale gas potential in Indonesia was estimated 574 TCF and Naintupo Formation in Tarakan Basin had 5 TCF of technically recoverable reserve with 35 TCF risked gas-in-place. This study would discuss technoeconomic aspect of shale gas field development in Naintupo Formation, Tarakan Basin using gross split contract scheme. Three flow profiles would be developed by using Arps hyperbolic decline curves, consist of low flow profile with initial production (qi) of 150 mmcf/mo, medium (qi = 250 mmcf/mo) and high flow profile (qi = 350 mmcf/mo). Costs estimation were based on benchmarking cost of developed shale gas field in United States and nearby oil/gas field development in Tarakan Basin. Economic analysis showed that medium and high flow profile gave positive economic indicator marked by positive NPV and IRR>10%. Sensitivity analysis showed that flow profile gave more effect in NPV and IRR increased than the gas price. In order to develop positive NPV with discount rate of 10%, it is required to sell shale gas at $6.52/MMBTU in high flow profile or $8.42/MMBTU in medium flow profile.

The use of conventional manufacturing methods is mainly limited by the size of the production run and the geometrical complexity of the component, and as a result we are occasionally forced to use processes and tools that increase the final cost of the element being produced. Additive manufacturing techniques provide major competitive advantages due to the fact that they adapt to the geometrical complexity and customised design of the part to be manufactured. The following may also be achieved according to field of application: lighter weight products, multimaterial products, ergonomic products, efficient short production runs, fewer assembly errors and, therefore, lower associated costs, lower tool investment costs, a combination of different manufacturing processes, an optimised use of materials, and a more sustainable manufacturing process. Additive manufacturing is seen as being one of the major revolutionary industrial processes of the next few years. Additive manufacturing has several alternatives ranging from simple RepRap machines to complex fused metal deposition systems. This paper will expand upon the structural design of the machines, their history, classification, the alternatives existing today, materials used and their characteristics, the technology limitations, and also the prospects that are opening up for different technologies both in the professional field of innovation and the academic field of research. It is important to say that the choice of technology is directly dependent on the particular application being planned: first the application and then the technology.

By looking at the growth of air transport has increased quite significantly, certainly not independent human resources needs to guide them in Air Traffic Control personnel. In this case one of the problems encountered in field of aviation is the imbalance between supply and demand on Ihe one hard, the growth of air transport have increased and on one side of the energv needs of ATC is not in accordance with the operation of the flight. In connection with this case was the result of the ability of the Aviation safety Techical Academy, in terms of manpower needs in Particular ATC Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar, which now number 144 ATC personel, whereas the ideal number to 145 people personnel. However, the results of estimates / projections for 2015 amounted to 182 personnel required by the ATC.
