AbstractThe aim of this study was to examine the validity and reliability of Leach et al.’s (2008) model of in-group identification in two studies using Russian samples (overall N = 621). In Study 1, a series of multi-group confirmatory factor analysis revealed that the hierarchical model of in-group identification, which included two second-order factors, self-definition (individual self-stereotyping, and in-group homogeneity) and self-investment (satisfaction, solidarity, and centrality), fitted the data well for all four group identities (ethnic, religious, university, and gender) (CFI > .93, TLI > .92, RMSEA < .06, SRMR < .06) and demonstrated a better fit, compared to the alternative models. In Study 2, the construct validity and reliability of the Russian version of the in-group identification measure was examined. Results show that these measures have adequate psychometric properties. In short, our results show that Leach et al.’s model is reproduced in Russian culture. The Russian version of this measure can be recommended for use in future in-group research in Russian-speaking samples.

Abstract. The present article describes a reliable and valid German multidimensional multicomponent measure of social identification. A translation of the original Dutch measure of social identification ( Leach et al., 2008 ) was adapted to the German context and validated in three different samples across three distinct identities using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Results of Study 1 (organizational identity, N = 419), Study 2 (national identity, N = 274), and Study 3 (gender identity, N = 833) confirm the psychometric qualities of the German measure and replicate the theoretical multidimensional multicomponent model of social identification including the self-definition (individual self-stereotyping, in-group homogeneity) and self-investment (solidarity, satisfaction, and centrality) dimensions. In addition, Studies 2 and 3 provide evidence for the construct validity of the German subscales of the social identification components.

Officials occupy an essential role in sport, and one that is beginning to be recognized in the research literature. One growing area of research on officials is officiating efficacy, or refficacy. Previous research includes a conceptualization of the construct and an operational definition that has been supported with respect to factor structure and other psychometric properties. However, the samples that have supported the validity and reliability of the scale have reflected a narrow conceptualization of officiating; samples have been dominated by interactor officials in invasion sports, such as football and basketball. The current study was designed to assess the psychometric properties of the REFS with a sample of monitor and reactor officials. A sample of 174 officials from monitor sports such as wrestling, tennis and figure skating completed the REFS. A Confirmatory Factor Analysis supported Myers et al [1] four-factor model. The data also showed strong internal consistency and gender differences that are consistent with other research on efficacy in sport. These results show that the REFS is a valid and reliable measure for a heterogeneous and widely representative sample of sport officials. Research utilizing this measurement is encouraged in a variety of contexts and on a variety outcomes

Abstract The aim of this study is to adapt the multidimensional in-group identification scale (MGIS) to the Brazilian context by gathering evidence of its psychometric properties. A total of 663 people from two samples participated in the study. In sample 1, we measured the identification of Brazilians with the region of the country where they live. In sample 2, we measured the identification of students with the university which they attend. Confirmatory factor analyses were performed on both samples to compare the models previously proposed by the original authors of the measure. The obtained results confirmed the validity of the hierarchical and multidimensional factor structure proposed by the original authors. The scale proposed here can be used to measure multiple dimensions of in-group identification in Brazil.

AbstractRelatively little is known about identity-related resilience factors associated with well-being among transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) people. Drawing upon theory on stigma-related stress and resilience and work examining group identification as a buffer against discrimination, the aim of the current study was to model perceived discrimination, transgender identification, and gender identity affirmation as predictors of well-being for TGNC people. We also tested whether the positive association between gender identity affirmation and well-being might be explained by the benefits affirmation has for individual self-concept clarity. Participants were 105 TGNC individuals (42% transgender male, 39% transgender female, 19% other gender non-conforming [e.g., non-binary]) recruited through online forums and support groups in the UK and North America who completed an online survey including self-report measures of key constructs. Results from structural equation models demonstrated that: (1) experiences of discrimination were associated with lower well-being overall, but having a stronger transgender identity moderated this association; (2) after adjustment for discrimination and transgender identification, experiences of gender identity affirmation were independently associated with greater well-being for TGNC people. Secondary analyses demonstrated that gender identity affirmation was linked to well-being through reinforcing a strong, internalized sense of clarity about individual self-concept. Results are discussed in terms of the implications for TGNC health and well-being, particularly with regard to the need for supportive, identity-affirming social environments.

Abstract. The evaluation and monitoring of physical activity (PA) levels must be carried out constantly. The objectives of the study were a) To verify the validity and reliability of a questionnaire that measures the level of PA and b) to establish percentiles to classify PA levels of schoolchildren by age and gender. A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in 6 public establishments in the Province of Arequipa, Peru. A total of 1,339 adolescents (661 boys and 678 girls) were surveyed. A questionnaire comprising 11 items was used to measure PA. Validation was carried out using confirmatory factor analysis, whereas reliability was assessed by means of internal consistency. Percentiles were established. The average age of boys was 15.24 ± 1.82 years old, whilst girls were 15.39 ± 1.64 years old. Saturations ranged from 0.30 to 0.55. KMO adequacy measure was 0.83 (X2 = 2206.1, df = 55, p <0.000). The variance explanation % for the type of PA was 30.0%, for PA frequency 10.7%, for PA duration 9.0%, and for PA intensity 7.9%. Cronbach's Alpha was r = 0.71. Percentiles were proposed for each age and gender range. The proposed cut points were: Low (<p15), moderate (p15-p85) and high level of PA (> p85). The used PA questionnaire is valid and reliable; in addition, the developed percentiles are a useful tool to diagnose, classify, and monitor PA levels of adolescents who live at moderate altitudes in Peru.

The aim of this study was to assess validity and reliability of the Russian version of the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES). The RSES was translated in Russian and completed by 213 Russian-speaking students in the age range from 16 to 24 years. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses confirmed the one-factor structure with suitable reliability (Cronbach’s α = 0,82). The RSES has convergent validity in relation to the Dembo and Rubinstein’s Self-Esteem Scale. Thus, the Russian version of the RSES is a brief, valid and reliable measure of self-esteem in Russian population.

Abstract. The Therapist Adherence Measure (TAM-R) is a central assessment within the quality-assurance system of Multisystemic Therapy (MST). Studies into the validity and reliability of the TAM in the US have found varying numbers of latent factors. The current study aimed to reexamine its factor structure using two independent samples of families participating in MST in the Netherlands. The factor structure was explored using an Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) in Sample 1 ( N = 580). This resulted in a two-factor solution. The factors were labeled “therapist adherence” and “client–therapist alliance.” Four cross-loading items were dropped. Reliability of the resulting factors was good. This two-factor model showed good model fit in a subsequent Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) in Sample 2 ( N = 723). The current finding of an alliance component corroborates previous studies and fits with the focus of the MST treatment model on creating engagement.

Aims:To develop a Spanish version of the Guilt and Shame Proneness Scale (GASP) and evaluate its psychometric properties among a population in Spain. Methods:A Spanish version of the Guilt and Shame Proneness Scale (GASP) was developed by a Spanish and English speakers through translation and back-translation. The translated GASP was administered to a sample of Spanish general population. The validity and reliability of the scale were tested using standard statistical methods. Results:The translated version of the GASP scale was found to have outstanding domain coherence and language clarity. The tested scales have adequate reliability (>0.55). It is clear evidence of reliability given that the GASP is a scenario-based measure with only four items in each subscale. Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the four-factor solution by yielding adequate results. Conclusions:This study presents the first validation of the GASP questionnaire with Spanish general population. GASP instrument was found to have satisfactory psychometric properties, resulting in a new moral and social research tool.
