The Big Five are nowadays the standard factors of personality dimensions. Several instruments have been proposed in the last few years for their measurement, either with adjectives or with items. A new state-of-the-art questionnaire to measure the Big Five is the Five-Factor Personality Inventory (FFPI), composed of 100 items. For this article, the questionnaire was validated in Italy with a sample of 249 subjects. Generalizibility, reliability, construct validity (convergent and discriminant), and predictive validity were investigated. Particular attention was devoted to the fifth factor, the most debated in current literature. Results fully supported the validity of FFPI and testify to its high-level psychometric properties. The fifth factor of the FFPI proved to be different from the standard definitions (Intellect or Openness to Experience), being better characterized as Autonomy.

The aim of this contribution is to present a new short adjective-based measure of the Five Factor Model (FFM) of personality, the Short Adjectives Checklist of BIg Five (SACBIF). We present the various steps of the construction and the validation of this instrument. First, 50 adjectives were selected with a selection procedure, the “Lining Up Technique” (LUT), specifically used to identify the best factorial markers of the FFM. Then, the factorial structure and the psychometric properties of the SACBIF were investigated. Finally, the SACBIF factorial structure was correlated with some main measures of the FFM to establish its construct validity and with some other personality dimensions to investigate how well these dimensions could be represented in the SACBIF factorial space.

Abstract. The aim of this study was to investigate the psychometric properties of the Ten-Item Personality Inventory (TIPI) in a French-speaking sample (1,554 participants, 59.3% of women). Our results showed that the French version of the TIPI has acceptable psychometric properties with satisfactory levels of temporal stability (after three and six weeks), satisfactory convergent and divergent construct validity in relationship with the Big Five Inventory (BFI), emotional intelligence, and self-esteem. As in the other translations of the TIPI, the limitation of our adaptation is the low level of internal consistency, especially concerning agreeableness, as in the Spanish version. The French TIPI is a promising scale that should be used preferably for exploratory purposes.

The six most important personality dimensions and the HEXACO Personality Inventory The six most important personality dimensions and the HEXACO Personality Inventory R.E. de Vries, M.C. Ashton & K. Lee, Gedrag & Organisatie, volume 22, September 2009, nr. 3, pp. 232-274 Recent lexical research on the structure of personality has revealed six independent and cross-cultural corresponding dimensions of personality in the same datasets that have led to the emergence of the Big Five model of personality. These six dimensions, Honesty-Humility, Emotionality, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, and Openness to Experience, constitute the HEXACO model of personality. In two studies, the psychometric properties of the Dutch HEXACO Personality Inventory (HEXACO-PI) and the Dutch HEXACO Personality Inventory-Revised (HEXACO-PI-R) and the relations of its factor- and facet-scales with background variables, the NEO-PI-R, the Dutch Personality Questionnaire (DPQ), and the Sensation Seeking Scale (SSS) are investigated. The results show that the HEXACO-PI(-R) has sound psychometric properties and is meaningfully related to the abovementioned questionnaires. Implications for personality research and assessment are discussed.

Abstract. The need for efficient personality inventories has led to the wide use of short instruments. The corresponding items often contain multiple, potentially conflicting descriptors within one item. In Study 1 ( N = 198 university students), the reliability and validity of the TIPI (Ten-Item Personality Inventory) was compared with the reliability and validity of a modified TIPI based on items that rephrased each two-descriptor item into two single-descriptor items. In Study 2 ( N = 268 university students), we administered the BFI-10 (Big Five Inventory short version) and a similarly modified version of the BFI-10 without two-descriptor items. In both studies, reliability and construct validity values occasionally improved for separated multi-descriptor items. The inventories with multi-descriptor items showed shortcomings in some factors of the TIPI and the BFI-10. However, the other scales worked comparably well in the original and modified inventories. The limitations of short personality inventories with multi-descriptor items are discussed.

The aim of this study was to examine the extent to which the socially desirable responding (SDR) distorts results of HEDONICA personaliy inventory (acronim based on eight dimensions of this inventory: Honesty, Disintegration, Impulsiveness, Openness, Extraversion, Neuroticism, Conscientiousness, and Agreeableness). The inventory HEDONICA was merged with components of the Balanced Inventory of Desirable Responding (BIDR) as a control inventory and was administered to a sample of 227 students under two experimental situations/ contexts, operationalized by two instructions: the standard (S) one (such as ?be honest?) and the ?fake good? (FG) one (such as ?portray yourself in a most positive way?). Comparing scores in S and FG situations by using MANOVA, a clear distortion on all personality traits in socially desirable directions were evidenced. When, however, the BIDR subscales in the FG situation were entered into MANOVA as covariates, differences between personality scores in S and FG sitautions were considerably reduced, and became statistically insignificant on five personality dimensions. When the variance of dimensions of the BIDR inventory was removed from the variance of HEDONICA traits in FG situation, the change between intercorrelations of personality dimensions in S and FG situations did not attain statistical significance. This lead to the conclusion that the SDR bias, if even does affect test results (i.e., enhances scores in FG situation), does not affect the scale structure and predictive validity of the examined personality inventory.

Background: This article presents the procedure of the elaboration and verification of the first Polish Sense of Team Efficacy Questionnaire (Kwestionariusz Poczucia Druzynowej Skutecznosci – KPDS). Material/Methods: Two research stages involved a total of 373 professional athletes. Based on the collected data, the internal structure and psychometric properties of the instrument were established. Results: As a result of the conducted statistical analyses, a questionnaire was obtained. Analyses confirmed the stability of the internal structure of the questionnaire. The instrument also obtained satisfactory coefficients of reliability (using Cronbach’s alpha internal reliability coefficient) and construct validity. In order to establish the convergent and discriminant validity of the KPDS, the analysis of the multitrait-multimethod matrix was applied, using the Group Environment Questionnaire (GEQ). Predictive validity was established using the result obtained in a match played directly after the conducted study. Conclusions: The obtained results confirmed the relevance of creating the KPDS. The questionnaire was made up of 21 items representing 4 subscales: fitness, preparation, effort and endurance. Calculation of a general score for the KPDS also proved to be possible.

Argumentativeness is conceptualized as a personality trait which predisposes an individual to recognize controversial issues and to advocate or refute positions on them. In a multivariate study with 166 male and 120 female students, the relationships between scores on the Argumentativeness scales and the facet and domain scales of the Revised NEO Personality Inventory (Form S) were analyzed. At the facet level, scores on Tendency to Approach arguments and Argumentativeness correlated significantly with scores on Assertiveness and Openness to Ideas, and scores on Tendency to Avoid arguments correlated significantly with scores on Self-consciousness and Assertiveness. At the domain level, scores on Openness to Experience correlated significantly with those on Tendency to Approach arguments and with the Argumentativeness scale and scores on Extraversion correlated significantly with Tendency to Avoid arguments and the Argumentativeness scale.

Adult playfulness helps children to reduce their negative feelings and go through more smooth transitions for new experiences, and this propounds the importance of examining the playfulness of teachers. The aim of this study is to examine the psychometric properties of Adult Playfulness Trait Scale (APTS)-Turkish Form in terms of teacher candidates. The study was conducted with 440 university students. Explanatory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) were used to test the validity of the scale; and alpha value was calculated to test the reliability of the scale. Factor loadings and fit indices indicated that the construct validity of scale was high. Consequently, construct validity and reliability of scale were found to be high level.

Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı Yetişkin Eğlence Eğilimi Özeliği Ölçeği’nin (YEEÖÖ) Türkçe formunun psikometrik özelliklerinin öğretmen adayları açısından incelenmesidir. The main goal of this research was to investigate some of the psychometric properties of the Narcissistic Personality Inventory – reliability, applicability of a seven-factor structure and its construct validity for a sample of the Serbian population. For this purpose, a 40-item Narcissistic Personality Inventory – NPI and Rosenberg’s Global Self-esteem scale were distributed via internet to 150 participants of both sexes, aged 19 – 56. Investigation of internal consistency of NPI was satisfactory – Cronbach alpha coefficient was 0.87. Also, the seven-factor structure of NPI found with the American sample did not correspond well to the factor structure found in the present study. The total scale score correlated with self-esteem, thereby supporting the validity of the scale.
