Development of an Attitude Scale to Assess Elementary Students' Attitudes Toward Nanotechnology

Purpose Future speech-language pathologists are often unprepared in their academic training to serve the communicative and cognitive needs of older adults with dementia. While negative attitudes toward older adults are prevalent among undergraduate students, service learning has been shown to positively affect students' attitudes toward older adults. TimeSlips is an evidence-based approach that has been shown to improve health care students' attitudes toward older adults. The purpose of this study is to explore the change in attitudes in speech-language pathology students toward older adults using TimeSlips in service learning. Method Fifty-one students participated in TimeSlips service learning with older adults and completed the Dementia Attitude Scale (DAS) before and after service learning. In addition, students completed a reflection journal. The DAS data were analyzed using nonparametric statistics, and journal entries were analyzed using a qualitative analysis approach. Results The service learners exhibited a significant increase in positive attitude as indexed on the DAS. The reflective journal entries supported the positive change in attitudes. Conclusions A noticeable attitude shift was indexed in reflective journals and on the DAS. TimeSlips is an evidence-based, patient-centered approach well suited to address challenges in the preparation of Communication Sciences and Disorders students to work with the growing population of older adults.

In education, computers and calculators historically have been associated with mathematics and the sciences, and are frequently incorporated into these areas of the curriculum. This may have serious implications for females because of the long history of reported sex differences in achievement and attitudes in mathematics and related disciplines. This study of sixty high school students examines the relationship between mathematics performance and students' attitudes toward technology (computers and calculators), and whether the relationship is similar for males and females. A practice form of the General Educational Development (GED) test was used to measure mathematics performance. Students' attitudes toward computers were assessed by the Computer Attitude Scale, and attitudes toward calculators were assessed by a 4-item measure developed by the authors. In general, students with more positive attitudes toward computers and calculators were found to perform better than students with more negative attitudes.

Aim: This research was conducted to examine the attitudes of students studying at Fırat University Faculty of Sport Sciences towards sport tourism. Methods: 1091 students participated in the study. In order to examine the students' attitudes towards sports tourism, the attitude scale towards sports tourism (STYTÖ) developed by Kardaş and Sadık (2018) was used. The data obtained were evaluated in the SPSS 22.0 package program. Frequency, mean, standard deviation, one-wayAnova, independent t-test were used to analyze the data. The significance level of the statistics made was accepted as p <.05. Conclusion: As a result of the study, it was determined that the students' attitudes towards sports tourism were at a positive level and there were signifi-cant differences in terms of some variables (age, class, mother and father education level, branch, department, etc.) according to the sub-dimensions of the scale. It was deter-mined that there was no significant difference in terms of gender, marital status and sports tourism course variables. It is predicted that this research will provide an advantage in determining the attitudes of university students who receive sports education towards sports tourism and evaluating the issue in the sectoral field.

The purpose of the study was to examine secondary school students' attitudes towards social media and their loneliness levels in terms of gender and whether they do sports or not. The sample of the study consisted of 175 female and 269 male secondary school stıdents. To collect data personal information form, Social Media Attitude Scale (Otrar ve Argın, 2013) and UCLA Loneliness Scale (Russell, Peplau, & Cutrona, 1980) were used to in this study. Independent t test analysis was conducted to examine whether the participants' social media attitudes and loneliness levels differed with regard to gender and do sport. According to the results, there was no significant difference in social media attitudes (t = -.832, p > .05) with regard to gender. However, loneliness levels of the participants seems to be significantly different with regard to gender (t = -6.513, p = .000). When the participants were examined whether they do sports or not, there was not any significant difference in social media attitudes (t = -.427, p> .05). However, the levels of loneliness was significantly found to be different in terms of doing sports or not (t = -3.675, p = .000). Furthermore, there was not a significant relationship between social media attitudes and loneliness (p > .05). It can be concluded that sport and regular physical activity can be considered as a means to provide environments where individuals will feel far away from the feeling of loneliness and that they will feel themselves more valuable.

<p class="Default"><strong>Abstract:</strong> The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of virtual laboratory experiences in physics laboratory attitudes of students. It also aims to determine the views of students’ on virtual laboratory. The study involved 42 students who was divided into two groups (21 experimental, 21 control). Students were randomly assigned to both groups. In the research, the pre-test and post-test control group design was used. The experimental group used the virtual laboratory. On the other hand the control group used physical laboratory. The research data were obtained via the “physics laboratory attitude scale” and semi-structured interviews. The result of this study carried out that virtual laboratory experiences made positive effects on students’ attitudes. In addition, semi-structured interviews were found out that they had positive opinions regarding the virtual physics laboratory experiences.</p><p class="Default"> </p>

It is a great paradox that despite the great importance attached to mathematics education in Turkey, high failure rates are observed among Turkish students in mathematics. For this reason, new applications are implemented in the field of mathematics education in Turkey. One of these applications is the use of technology in mathematics education. Thus, this research aimed to determine the attitudes and opinions of the middle school students towards the use of the interactive whiteboard, which is among the technologies used in mathematics and mathematics lessons. The research is based on a mixed-method research design in which both quantitative and qualitative methods were used. The quantitative part of the study was conducted with 726 students, selected via the convenience sampling method, in 4 different central schools affiliated to the Ministry of Education (MNE) in the Karabük province during the 2015-2016 academic year, while the qualitative part was carried out with 20 participants determined on a voluntary basis. The research data were obtained from the “Attitude Scale towards Mathematics”, the “Interactive Whiteboard Attitude Scale” and the semi-structured interviews. It was found that the participants in the survey had a positive attitude towards the use of the interactive whiteboard in mathematics lessons and that they were positively affected by the interactive whiteboard in learning mathematics. In addition, it was concluded that participants' attitudes towards mathematics and the use of the interactive whiteboard was above average. It was also found that the male students’ attitudes towards the interactive whiteboard were more positive than that of the female students, and the level of positive attitude towards mathematics decreases as the class level increases accordingly. Finally, a low positive correlation was found between students' attitudes towards mathematics and the interactive whiteboard.

As one of the developing technologies and increased use in the field of ed-ucation, Augmented Reality (AR) technology adds a digital (audio, video, graphic and GPS location) layer to authentic world images. The aim of this study is to determine students’ attitudes regarding AR contents developed for science education. The study group consists of 77 7th grade students studying in a private college during 2018-2019 academic year spring se-mester. The study adopted quantitative data collection method and imple-mented Attitude Scale for Augmented Reality Applications. The collected data were analyzed through paired samples statistics, mean and standard deviation. The data analysis showed that students were satisfied with AR applications, found it interesting and easy to use and would like to use it in the future.

A semantic differential attitude scale was administered to 238 third through fifth grade students in an individualized instructional program. None of the students had any difficulty using the instrument with the directions provided. Coefficient alpha reliabilities ranged from .86 to .92 for the nine basic scales. There was little difference in the reliability between the grades. The scale was again, 7 mo. later, administered to the same students to assess the long-term stability of the scale and students' attitudes. The coefficients ranged from .35 to .44 for those scales expected to have some consistency while it was near zero for those scales not expected to maintain consistency. Properly constructed and presented, the semantic differential is both usable and internally reliable with students as young as third grade. Selected questions show reasonable long-term stability.
