This work aims to raise awareness of environmental problems through interactive means, which, today, are much more appealing than the traditional ones to the academic community. To better inform community members of the importance of the 3Rs – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, it was decided to develop an interactive 3D game, accessible through the Word Wide Web. This game includes 3 different activities which can be played in any order: solid waste recycling, saving water, and saving electricity. A small group of people evaluated the games; all participants were familiar with video games. It should be noted that the tests carried out focused only on the usability and interactivity of the game – the impact of the game at the 3Rs level – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle – has not been tested yet. The game makes the user more aware of the physical space where he moves (the school), showing his progress in real time. At the end of the game, the user is presented with the total time he took to finish his tasks and the total score achieved. In this way, the game becomes more interesting to the user.

AbstractStrengthening people who undergo the adaptation process amidst the situation and the impact of the Covid 19 Pandemic is currently important. Many people were affected by the current pandemic situation, both in the economic, education and health sectors, some were successful and some needed help and strengthening. Concern among fellow community members is needed in dealing with this non-natural disaster. The higher education institutions are no exception, in this case the Padjadjaran University academic community, with its various resources, can play an important role in strengthening the ability of the community so that they can live life in the midst of this Cobid 19 pandemic. Various community service programs and activities can be integrated with learning and research. One of them is through student real work lectures (KKNM), although it is implemented virtually. Providing information and knowledge about healthy and clean lifestyles (PHBS) or the application of health protocols (prokes) to prevent the spread of Covid-19, is one form of efforts to strengthen community groups. Likewise, by dealing with the news situation about the pandemic clearly, and sorting out valid news so as not to disturb mental stability. This paper is aimed to describe and critically analyze the so-called "TEACHPOT" experience (POT: Provide Opportunities in Teaching) performed during the last few years at Politecnico di Torino. Due to career criteria, the effort and the time lecturers spend in teaching have currently undergone a significant reduction in quantity. In order to support and meet each lecturers' expectations towards an improvement in their ability to teach, a mix of training opportunities has been provided. This consists of an extremely wide variety of experiences, tools, relationships, from which everyone can feel inspired to increase the effectiveness of their teaching and the participation of their students. The provided activities are designed around three main components: methodological training, teaching technologies, methodological experiences. A discussion on the findings is included and presented basing on the data collected through a survey. The impact of the overall experience can be evaluated on two different levels: the real effect on redesigning lessons, and the discussion on the matter within the entire academic community.

Hotels face many issues related to food waste management, which is considered a serious environmental and socioeconomic issue in the 21st century. The improper disposal of food waste causes greenhouse gases emissions, consequently badly affecting the environment. This research aims to measure the impact of customer trends in changing the pattern of food waste disposal and recycling into bioenergy relating to hotel purposes and contributing to reducing hotel energy costs in Egypt. Two survey questionnaires were designed for hotel managers and guests, with 25 and 300 forms, respectively. The results indicated that hotel managers are highly willing to recycle food waste to produce bioenergy and hence play an effective role in environmental preservation. Such alternative energy sources are less expensive than conventional ones. This study revealed guests’ intentions to participate in the process of preserving the surrounding environment, as well as their preferences to stay in hotels that are practicing food waste recycling operations. Limitations can be seen in the lack of advertising for such hotels as well the high cost of staying in green and ecological hotels.

AbstractLocal norms and shared beliefs in cohesive social groups regulate individual behavior in everyday economic life. I use a door-to-door field experiment where a hundred and twenty villagers recruited from twenty-three communities in a Japanese rural mountainous village play a simultaneous prisoner’s dilemma game. To examine whether a set of experiences shared through interactions among community members affect experimental behavior, I compare villagers’ behavior under in-community and out-community random matching protocols. I also report a counterpart laboratory experiment with seventy-two university student subjects to address the external validity of laboratory experiments. The findings are three-fold. First, almost full cooperation is achieved when villagers play a prisoner’s dilemma game with their anonymous community members. Second, cooperation is significantly higher within the in-group compared to the out-group treatment in both the laboratory and field experiments. Third, although a significant treatment effect of social group membership is preserved, a big difference in the average cooperation rates is observed between the laboratory and field.
