The article analyzes the assessment of the ecological state of the territory by its population in a small town to study the state of public environmental awareness. According to official data, the city of Yelets and the Lipetsk region in general face a significant number of unresolved environmental problems against the background of a quite stable ecological situation. Given the general complex ecological situation in the region, the assessment of the ecological situation in specific settlements, rooted in the local agenda, can be radically different. This allows us to speak about the primary attention of the population to their local place of residence and the problems they face directly. The involvement of the population in the activities to preserve the environment of the region as a whole requires promoting public environmental awareness through a competent environmental policy by state and municipal authorities.

Abstract Ecological state of groundwater used as a source of potable water in urban areas of the city of Ivano-Frankivsk and its satellites is dealt with. Groundwater is assessed as a ratio between the content of pollutants and the relevant hygiene standards. Environmental assessment grounded on the materials of chemical analysis (74 samples) compared to maximum allowable concentrations and background values. Calculations of the value of hazard and the intensity of pollutions were the methods of ecological and geochemical evaluation of groundwater contamination. Based on calculation results, geochemical maps were compiled depicting satisfactory, hazardous and critical degrees of hydro-ecological situation. Developed maps can serve for the purposes of further geochemical monitoring of ecological situation.

Abstract On the example of the park zones of the city of Khabarovsk (“Dynamo” and “House of officers of the fleet”), a variety of transformation of the soil cover and the formation of new preferred formations were revealed. The specificity of the state of the soil environment of two parks, located in e same type of engineering-geological conditions, but different variants of anthropogenic impact, is revealed. The changes in the structure of the profiles depending on the position of the soil in the elementary landscape are considered and their biological activity is characterized. The use of bioindication methods indicates that the most comfortable park areas of the city are also susceptible to contamination with heavy metals. It is proposed to use the characteristics of the basic parameters of the soil cover as a promising approach in improving the environment. This will reveal the ecological situation of the territory and make appropriate decisions to improve its condition.

Abstract The survey of the ecological condition of eight lakes within the city limits of Freiburg included hydrochemical measurements and analyses (oxygen profiles, Secchi depth, pH, biochemical oxygen demand) together with biological parameters (chlorophyll a, phytoplanktonbiomass, Escherichia coli counts), as well as parasitic examinations. Only some of the investigated parameters are presented here. Seven of the eight lakes were found to be eutrophic. The process of eutrophication appears to be still in progress. One lake can be considered to be hypertrophic. Schistosome dermatitis was observed. The water quality in general was considered to be acceptable; suggestions to maintain or improve the water quality are made.

The article deals with one of the most relevant topics of the modern city and ecology - the problem of landscaping in Volgograd. The city is characterized by an industrial urbanism, with a high concentration of population, saturation of production facilities and vehicles, which contributes to a high level of negative impact on the environment. The pace of greening of the city lags behind the pace of construction of the residential sector, and the existing green spaces do not meet the sanitary and hygienic, aesthetic requirements. The prospects of this problem are determined, the existing green spaces are considered, data on the climatic conditions of the city and the ecological situation are given. Improvement in the field of landscaping is associated with the scientifically sound placement of green spaces, taking into account all the factors that affect the growth and development of plants in the urban environment. Unfortunately, due to the uneven distribution of the assortment of trees and shrubs, the species composition of the central streets and squares of the city is extremely poor. The study focuses on the role of the botanical garden in urban landscaping and aims to create recommendations for the sorting of tree and shrub plants for urban landscaping. As a result of the analysis of the assortment of ornamental plants of the open ground of the botanical garden, the article proposed species and varieties of woody and shrubby plants that have passed the introduction tests for more than 5-10 years. Recommendations for sorting are aimed at improving the ecological situation of the city and greening the recreation areas of citizens. The proposed list of tree and shrub species cannot fully solve the problem of greening the city, but it will help to significantly enrich the composition of tree and shrub plants.

This paper explores the documentation of social and spatial transformation in the Walworth area, South London. Spatial narratives are the entry point for my exploration, where official and ‘unofficial’ representations of history are aligned to capture the nature of urban change. Looking at the city from street level provides a worldly view of social encounter and spaces that are expressive of how citizens experience and shape the city. A more distanced view of the city accessed from official data reveals different constructs. In overlaying near and far views and data and experience, correlations and contestations emerge. As a method of research, the narrative is the potential palimpsest, incorporating fragments of the immediate and historic without representing a comprehensive whole. In this paper Walworth is documented as a local and Inner City context where remnants and insertions are juxtaposed, where white working class culture and diverse ethnicities experience difference and change. A primary aim is to consider the diverse experiences of groups and individuals over time, through their relationship with their street, neighbourhood and city. In relating the Walworth area to London I use three spatial narratives to articulate the contemporary and historic relationship of people to place: the other side examines the physical discrimination between north and south London, the other half looks at distinctions of class and race and other histories explores the histories displaced from official accounts.

The aim of this study was to measure the attitudes of students and secondary students in Aqla falcon towards environmental problems. And whether there are statistically significant differences in trends towards environmental problems due to gender variable (student, student). To achieve the objective of the study, the researcher used the descriptive method. A questionnaire (25) was designed to measure trends towards environmental problems. Was applied to a sample of (126) students. After data collection and processing, the results showed that the attitudes of students and students are positive. The results of the study revealed no statistically significant differences in trends towards all environmental problems according to gender variable (student, student). The results also showed no statistically significant differences in the attitudes of male and female students towards all environmental problems according to the educational level of the father and the educational level of the mother. In light of the results, the researcher presented a number of recommendations, most notably: the need to maintain environmental awareness among students to include environmental education in the curriculum at all stages of public education, and the preparation of scientific programs calling for protecting the environment from all sources of pollutants and conservation.

Tourism in Protected Areas: the Botanical Gardens Benjamin Maranhao, Joao Pessoa (PB, Brazil) ABSTRACT Sustainable activities have become the focus of many countries, particularly with regard to economic and environmental aspects. The establishment of Conservation Units, such as Botanical Gardens, and the realization of tourism in these environments have proven options to achieve sustainability and environmental awareness. The aim of this paper is to present, within the context of the Conservation Units, the Permanent Preservation Areas and the Botanical Gardens, the touristic uses of the Jardim Botânico Benjamin Maranhão (JBBM) in João Pessoa (PB). The choice considers its relevance to the city with regard to encouraging environmental awareness, as well as its representation being the biggest urban area of native forest in the country. Library research was used, in a qualitative approach, and also visits to the JBBM. The reported case has provided visitation, recreation and education to tourists and visitors. In all the three activities, mostly trails, the ecological and environmental awareness is instigated, giving visitors a bigger knowledge and interaction with the space. However, in relation to their environmental characteristics, it is noted that the JBBM could implement more actions, such as more forceful activities of environmental interpretation; partnerships that promote more visitations and; pedagogical practices related to other fields of study, such as sociology and history. In terms of tourism practices, in addition to the ecotourism and educational tourism, it is possible to think about other tourism segments, such as adventure; events; scientific and; tourism of experience. KEYWORDS: Tourism; Conservation Units; Jardim Botânico Benjamim Maranhão.
