The author reflects on the specifics of distance musical and pedagogical education, which is perceived by many in a negative connotation – a reduced number of academic disciplines, first of all, individual lessons. And also – the important factor that distance education is often paid and the initial level of students is rather weak. However, there are no clear criteria for the comparative quality of full-time and part-time diplomas. Moreover, in the music profession, where individual training actualizes not only professional knowledge and skills, but also the formation of personal qualities of the future specialist. at the same time, it is necessary to separate two concepts – “correspondence” and “distance” learning. There is practically no research that would deal with the problems of distance musical and pedagogical education. As a rule, those few works that exist on correspondence training of pedagogical specialties do not take into account the specifics of the profession of music teacher, for example, in terms of the creative component of the educational process or the development of performing skills. to date, the most noticeable research gaps are, first of all, the actualization of the contextual approach and the study of the motivational component in distance learning. The author analyzes the data developed by him a detailed questionnaire for part-time students with information about the real and intended place of work of future graduates, their motivation for distance learning, the degree of satisfaction with such training, its advantages and disadvantages, the level of musical training of future teachers, musicians, their specific professional problems, etc. The students’ answers showed that there is a powerful trend in the musical and pedagogical profession associated with the public expression of musical creativity, the actualization of not only education and upbringing, but also the enlightenment component of the educational process. In addition to the performance qualities of a music teacher, those skills that have only recently seemed to be insignificant, such as organizational, directorial, lecturers, and managerial ones, have become extremely popular. According to the author, in the correspondence musical and pedagogical education it is much easier to develop the abilities of teachers in this regard, since, on the one hand, there is a knowledge base, and on the other – a specific professional situation, familiar and close to the correspondence student and teacher in one person. In this contextual paradigm laid a powerful lever of motivation of part-time students to maximize the “whole” of the educational process and, accordingly, the optimal combination and complementarity of study and professional activities.

We live in a dynamically changing time, when a person must learn throughout life, constantly improve and adapt to new conditions. The ability to learn is one of the four foundations of education. The article presents selected excerpts from empirical research aimed primarily at understanding students' knowledge of teaching methods (mainly in the field of knowledge), as well as the most commonly used methods of memorizing material. The diagnostic study was performed by questionnaire. The questionnaire contained 39 closed and open questions. 130 students of pedagogical specialties of the University of Łód (took part in the survey (48 full-time and 82 part-time students). The experiment showed that students named (on average) two factors (positive and negative) that affect the learning process, only 24 out of 130 mentioned three factors. Respondents do not know teaching methods, in particular effective memorization: 80% of all students use multiple repetition, and other methods (prior knowledge, creating graphs, charts, tables, figures, links, chains of associations, funny stories, rhymes, the use of various colors, mental maps, mnemonics, etc. are used less. Most students (117 out of 130) admit that they have never sought knowledge about the learning process. Students are influenced by external (the need to prepare for exams, tests, practical classes), rather than internal motivation (the desire for self-improvement, professional self-realization). In many respects, full-time students showed more knowledge than part-time students. In addition, full-time students are slightly more likely to study voluntarily (regardless of academic background), not just before an exam or test. In both full-time and part-time study, students focus on gaining qualifications rather than knowledge. Thus, students’ knowledge of the educational process is insignificant; they know only the main factors that affect the educational process, and a few well-known methods of learning. In the future, it may negatively affect the effectiveness of their professional and pedagogical activities. It is necessary to identify the reasons of the gained results: lack of interest in the subject, misunderstanding of the curriculum, indifference, and so on. The author is convinced that it is necessary to change the approach to learning and develop the need for self-improvement.

Before the creation of the United Kingdom Open University (UKOU) - its Charter was given in 1969 and the first students were admitted in 1971 - the full-time residential model of higher education was pervasive, with part-time and distance modes of study seen as separate and inferior. The UKOU demonstrated the effectiveness of distance learning but also, because of its success, in some ways inhibited change in the mainstream tertiary sector. As social and political pressures on the sector grew, higher education providers were forced to innovate and models of “open learning” offered ways forward. As a result, the distinction between “distance” and “face-to-face” delivery rapidly eroded during the 1990s. However, barriers still remain to a more radical approach to provision as a whole.

The experience of educational work in conditions of quarantine and lockdowns allowed in practice to study the possibilities of distance learning and to form an objective assessment of it in the structure of continuous medical education (CME) for doctors. The survey participants noted the following disadvantages of online distance learning events: the lack of an opportunity to receive information that is of interest to the listener in an in-depth format and in a specific form, because the prevailing volume of videoconferences does not allow for discussions, exchange of experience, review of clinical cases, etc. Distance learning significantly limits the possibilities of practical skills and abilities, the mastering of which is up to 75% of the study time in the format of full-time and part-time education. The positive aspects, from the point of view of distance learning participants, include: the opportunity to get points for registering a teaching staff without interrupting their main work, the ability to choose topics and the modernity of information events. However, the traditional full-time and part-time forms of education also have their drawbacks, namely, for example: to travel and live in the cities where events are held in the absence of state funding for these expenses, that is, at the expense of the doctor himself. The use of innovative educational technologies, such as distance learning and online communication, in the training of doctors cannot fully replace the classical forms of education. The optimal are the combined forms of the educational process organization, which make it possible to rationally use the resource of the participants in the educational process.

A questionnaire was administered to part and full-time students of psychology at Liverpool John Moores University in order to determine the extent to which the part-time students appreciated the course. The results showed the part-time students reported themselves as having gained more from the programme than the full-time students, in terms of support and relationship with tutors, satisfaction with teaching and interest in various aspects of the programme. In terms of perceived changes in skill levels, however, there were no large differences between the two groups.

In a study of discontinuing students at Macquarie University major analyses were based on a sample of 444 students divided into four categories: students still persisting in Term 3 of second year, students who discontinued during first year, students who voluntarily discontinued after first year, and students excluded because of failure at the end of first year. Multiple discriminant analyses were used to relate potential predictors to category membership. Predictors included both entry and process variables. Results are reported separately for full-time and part-time students, and for males and females within these categories. The major findings carry implications for those who need to make management decisions in relation to higher education. Additionally, the paper attempts to highlight some of the design problems inherent in correlational studies and to present selected methodological strategies used in this study to minimize the effects of these problems.

Based on a survey of 259 full-time employees in the public sector who were also part-time students for the Master of Public Administration program at a prestigious university in eastern China, it was found that person-organization (P-O) fit is a good predictor of job satisfaction and turnover intention in a Chinese context. In contrast to previous findings, the results of competition model analysis indicate that job satisfaction does work as a full mediator between P-O fit and turnover intention. In fact, P-O fit affects turnover intention through job satisfaction as a mediator.
